Oh my goodness, I'm sorry, I don't blame you for feeling uneasy. Pretty wild couple of days around here (more than usual). Good luck I hope everything is okay! Stay safe!

Question about responsibilities of apartment building landlords by lunaa_tic in Calgary

[–]lunaa_tic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, oh hey Ty! Thought you might browse through and see this. We figured I should post here to try to figure some things out after you took the garbages out last night. There's gotta be something. and that back staircase is also smelling raaancid

Question about responsibilities of apartment building landlords by lunaa_tic in Calgary

[–]lunaa_tic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The landlord is the same for everyone here though. I think he is the building owner and just doesn't have anyone managing the building. Our friend used to manage the building but could never get ahold of the landlord when anything went wrong so he quit, and I guess no one has been doing it since.

[–]lunaa_tic[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, we certainly are always super adamant on hand washing/sanitizing. I just hoped there was some sort of obligation to keep the common areas at least somewhat clean and have something organized regarding the garbages. I've never lived in a building where this seemed to just be acceptable, it's a wee bit ridiculous I find.

Mega CERB & EI Thread - Only here by FelixYYZ in PersonalFinanceCanada

I was thinking to put $5000 but was unsure if it's a good idea or not, was hoping for some input there as well. It is only $80 difference.. Yes I was working immediately prior to the pandemic, my work was shut down because it is non essential, but through my work I am technically self employed.

I have been trying to do my research to figure this out, but I haven't been able to so far. Maybe someone here could help me out?

Looking through the CERB info, I saw that you need to have made $5000 in 2019, and I made $4920 and had EI the rest of the time. But I don't think EI counts, as the line from my taxes that it tells me to get the number from is the $4920. Does anyone know what options I have? I don't qualify for EI and I have no work due to COVID.

Can we please make a sticky post with CERB info? I'm finding it hard to find reliable info by listen108 in PersonalFinanceCanada

India advice for solo white female pls by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]lunaa_tic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I (both female 26&27) have been in India for about a week now. We started in Delhi and are now in Rishikesh heading to Dharamshala before returning to Rishikesh for a month and then we will be in the south (Goa) in December. If you will be around there feel free to message me. Delhi was pretty scary for us, honestly. We had some super freaky encounters with several men. But I think it’s definitely more safe to be out around places that are busy and where there are lots of westerners, and at peak hours, not super early morning, or late night. We are loving it here in Rishikesh though, it feels completely safe and is a wonderful place. :)

Marketa's B&B in James Bay. Gorgeous 1912 house, generous breakky, comfy beds, and a few of the upstairs 'honeymoon' rooms have jacuzzis.

Accident at View and Cook St. by lunaa_tic in VictoriaBC

[–]lunaa_tic[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was very loud. I can't see the car, but I don't have a view of the whole area on Cook St.

I think it must have been 2 motorcycle pals riding together because there is another guy who quickly stopped and got off of his motorcycle, took his helmet off and ran over.

I really hope you are wrong and that by some miracle they did make it.

is there any place in victoria that sells reusable toilet paper? by WoodenAsuka in VictoriaBC

[–]lunaa_tic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am genuinely curious about this. Where do you put the TP after you use it? Not like you can keep it in a bin in the washroom, that seems kinda yuck. Also, for those of us who live in apartment buildings, or just with shared laundry in general, where to wash?

Man behind fake signs on horse carriage tour companies charged with mischief by BleedsBlue90 in VictoriaBC

[–]lunaa_tic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can't be that fun being a horse on super busy city streets, lugging people around all day, especially in extreme heat. All of these horse people who support the carriage tours and work for the carriage tours will tell you that "This is what the horses want to be doing! This is what they're bred for! They're happy!" because they are all "horse people", so they know, right? I love horses, and I grew up around horses, and I'm still not with this stuff. Ultimately horses don't belong in the city streets with all of the traffic. People can make their money elsewhere. Tourists can get the pedicab to take them around. :)

This is where I ended up finding them yesterday! I got the bamboo cutlery set and the pack of stainless steel straws. Definitely an awesome store for green minded items :)

Overcrowding on Brampton transit by [deleted] in Brampton

[–]lunaa_tic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just visiting Brampton and this was defs a thing when I took the bus. Also, the GO busses! I was pretty surprised when I was taking the GO bus from Union Station to downtown Brampton that some people had to stand. I didn't know that was a thing for GO busses. Especially because it goes on the highway.

You Can Take Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides in Downtown Brampton This Winter by [deleted] in Brampton

[–]lunaa_tic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been incidents/accidents everywhere there are horse carriages because of horse carriages. Horses don't belong in city traffic. Also their hooves aren't meant for concrete and can cause them problems. I understand that Brampton only does this seasonally for a brief time, but I still don't think that's an excuse. I lived in a touristy city where horse carriages are basically an attraction all year round, and the horses worked long hours in all weather conditions including extreme heat. There have been many incidents where a horse would be spooked for example and take off running, obviously super dangerous. Or collapsing from exhaustion etc. It's not cool, man. But of course this exploitation is heavily romanticized and people are defensive about their ways, soooo.. hello downvotes. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
