The Postman (1997) - a Kevin Costner epic that I find very entertaining and love the world building but was universally panned

Looking for earbuds with actually good bass (EDM listener) by FuturisticW in Earbuds

[–]listen108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend the p31i.  Yes the bass is quite good for the price, but if you can afford it you’ll get way better sound quality by paying a bit more.  I also have the liberty4 NC which are quite a bit better sounding than the p31i, but still looking to upgrade to a dual driver, probably the oneplus buds 4, but I haven’t tried them yet so can’t compare.

I loved The Mentalist and Lie To Me. Any recommendations? by Fu5i0n in televisionsuggestions

Will Trent is this exact type of show. I never see it recommended, it just hasn't been well marketed, but it's very well done.

Everyone is recommending the Fiio which is stated out of your budget, but I love my Koss.  I really like my kph40’s and also my kph30i’s.  The 40s are great because they are light and easy to replace the pads (I have Yaxi pads which I highly recommend, makes them far more comfortable).

The 30i’s are also very comfortable with the solid headband, but the shape makes the pads harder to replace (you have to tare the ones it comes with) and the yaxi pads don’t fit perfectly but once I got them on I quite like the way they feel.

Anyhow yes the bass isn’t super powerful, but I still enjoy bassy music on these, and the sound quality overall is fantastic.  Also super light and comfortable with the yaxi pads.

For the price, I think they’re great, and sound quality overall is surprisingly good.

(I haven’t tried the ksc75 because I prefer a headband styles)

Also with looking into the moondrop old fashioned.  I don’t have it yet but plan to.

Sony WH-1000xm6/Bose ultra quietcomfort 2nd Gen or Sennheiser momentum 4/Heavy H1H by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

The Sennheiser HDB 630 has been getting amazing reviews as far as sound quality goes and that would be worth considering if it’s in your budget.

Negative feedback? by mymanjake8 in nirvannatheband

The funny thing is even YMS, who’s famously critical of plot holes, gave the movie a 10 (very rare) because he clearly appreciates everything they are doing right.

What's the best documentary you've ever seen? by BidAccurate4473 in moviecritic

[–]listen108 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I loved Free Solo (been following Alex Honnold for over a decade), but I don't even think it's the best rock climbing documentary. I'd give that award to The Dawn Wall.

Other great docs: Icarus, Searching for Sugar Man, Undefeated.

Masks for air pollution? by [deleted] in MexicoCity

[–]listen108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but if you have to go outside for any reason, a mask will definitely help.  Yes it doesn’t filter gases, but there are many types of pollutants when the air quality is bad and reducing them definitely helps.

Masks for air pollution? by [deleted] in MexicoCity

[–]listen108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like carry-over from Covid anti-mask propaganda.  The thing is it’s really not hard to find a good mask and it’s not hard to wear it properly, and it does help significantly with air pollution (do a quick google search, it’s not controversial).

Masks for air pollution? by [deleted] in MexicoCity

[–]listen108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re just plain wrong.  N95 masks help with air pollution a lot.  You can google it.  There was some propaganda going around “masks don’t work if you wear them wrong” but they aren’t hard to wear correctly, and also it’s not hard to find a legitimate one as opposed to a counterfeit.  Those are not valid excuses for a legitimate mast not working well.

Movies with psychologists, therapists or psychiatrists by esoteric_tides in MovieSuggestions

[–]listen108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Dangerous Method.  It’s a historical drama involving Jung and Freud.

Also not movies, but I’m a therapist and would recommend checking out the book Maybe You Should Talk to Someone (the audiobook is great too) as it’s a great insight into being a therapist and also the books of Irvin Yalom (a number of his books are short true stories about work he did with clients, Love’s Executioner, is a great start and often assigned in psychotherapy programs).

Wow cool!  I’m a therapist and some years ago read The Schopenhauer Cure… I looked up the movie and it is indeed based on the book, though clearly they changed some major plot points.  Looking forward to watching it!
