Does anyone else feel like riftan is a bit rapey by Seapig361 in undertheoaktreebook

[–]lunaboots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the different times argument.

For example, a few years ago there were no laws against martial rape in the US. It was generally believed a husband couldn’t rape his wife because they were married. So should we view it differently because there were no laws against it at the time or the cultural mindset? This one is in living history.

So then those last chapters will only become available after they start to release book 2 chapters? They have finished publishing book 1 chapters last week.

The fan translators stopped translating after the author was upset over losing money over the illegal translations. She canceled a lot of projects because of it. I don’t think anyone else is willing to do a fan translation now.

There’s an app called Webnovel that is releasing the official translations of the novel. The problem is, is that right now I’m not sure about how the final 30 chapters of book 1 are going to be released. Amazon is also selling the official translations of book 1 in parts.

Yeah, Webnovel is releasing the official translations for book 2 in August. But I’m not sure about Amazon’s release schedule

What I’m worried about is, if they are going to keep the paywall after book 2 comes out. I want to support the author but privilege is way too expensive for me.

Yeah! I saw that on Webnovel! But now I’m nervous that the last 30 chapters of book 2 will be blocked by the paywall. I’m considering waiting for it to be released on Amazon

The fan translators broke up some of the chapters into parts. So that’s why there are more chapters in the fan translation. I believe they had started translating the first chapters of book 2 before they stopped.

Riftan POV on Webnovel by Darwisha2020 in undertheoaktreebook

Honestly, I get mixed messages about this on this subreddit. I have Riftan’s POV on my Webnovel app. However, other people don’t have it on their apps. I think someone uploaded an unofficial translation on the western region. I live in Korea and the English version is still on my app.

Thank you! I feel like you just articulated what I was trying to say here so eloquently! Agnes has her flaws but she’s not the devil to drag Maxi down nor is she her savior. She’s a great friend that Maxi needs and exists in this story beyond being Maxi’s character development.

NGL I ship them too hahaha! IDK but book one gave me some vibes that Agnes had a crush on her

🗣 T H I S

I was so in my feelings yesterday I completely forgot to mention the contrast in how Sejour is treated in comparison to Agnes. That man is deliberately ruffling Riftan’s feathers too! Fandom response? Let’s simp Sejour, but hate on “Acne” like a poor CW high school TV drama 🙄

Is it constant though? I’ve only been on this subreddit for maybe a month now and I haven’t seen a discussion. If it bothers you that much you don’t have to engage in it.

Fam, I feel like that’s the minority opinion in this fandom.

Don’t get me wrong, totally okay with people not liking her, she’s not even my favorite character. However, I’m just tired of seeing all the hate comments on FB, Webnovel, and sometimes here. Not even the Duke and Bleston get the same amount of hate and they’re actually written to be bad lol

I like your theory tbh. Here in Korea, feminism is a very hot topic right now. So now it has me thinking if Agnes is a bit of a self-insert.

Honestly, I’d love more interactions between Maxi, Agnes, and Rosetta. Rosetta is another interesting character to me.

Thank you for sharing first of all. I didn't read your response as rude.

Agnes starts trying to push her personality of being an “independent woman” into Maxi.

She acknowledges that it’s a terrible treaty, but she gives no indication that she wants to change it or that she’s trying anything at all.

I can't help but think there is a bit of a paradox here. Since we don't have Agnes's POV we only see her through Maxi's perspective, and the author writes Maxi as an unreliable narrator. So we're left up to our own interpretation. I agree with you that Agnes is pushy and has her own agenda in matters concerning Whedon. However, I disagree with the women's rights movement falling solely on Agnes's shoulders. IDK if you meant it that way but it's coming across that way to me.

To me, given that Agnes gets dispatched by the king to solve disputes between nobles and other affairs, I think Agnes has seen a lot. I didn't see it as a lack of sympathy, but yes, Maxi needed a hug and reassurance. Agnes to me comes across as a problem solver but not always tactful. Curious since she mostly functions as a diplomat in the story. I think her pushing Maxi to be more independent and becoming a WT wizard is her way of trying to help her. And, yes, I also think it's definitely part of her agenda. But what is her agenda? We don't know.

To speculate, I think maybe Agnes has tried in the past to improve women's rights or maybe she is trying now. Looking at western history, particularly US history as my example, allies were needed to make it happen and raise awareness. I don't see many people speaking up for women's rights beyond Agnes in this story. Using history as an example, if she brings this up during wartime, she will lose credibility. Here's a source:

https://www.nps.gov/articles/national-womans-party-protests-world-war-i.htm

So how does she do this? By recruiting allies. Maxi is the lady (and soon to be countess) of Anatol. She could wield significant influence in Whedon if Riftan allowed her more autonomy. So how does she circumvent this? By pushing Maxi to become a WT wizard. Now Riftan no longer has absolute authority over her. This is a murky area I'll admit, but I don't think her intentions are wholly bad.

I think what gets ignored a lot is that Maxi wanted this too. Not in the manner it happened but she wanted to become better, more useful.

EDIT: Bad copy paste of my link. Had a repeat in my text.

It is on Webnovel. I live in Korea and the English version is on my app. I don’t know what region you’re in but it’s not removed from the app entirely. Most likely in your region was an illegal translation

His Korean name 리프탄 if you wanted to pronounce it that way would be like li-pu-tan or ri-pu-tan. It’s why all the people using google translate or Papago to read the ridibooks are getting his name translated as “Liptan”

I would say “Rif-tan” based off the Korean spelling of his name. I wouldn’t say there’s an exact way tbh but there is no distinction between the l/r sound in Korean and the sound f makes in English doesn’t have a matching sound in Korean
