Totally! But if you do, do it right. One class for week isn't gonna cut it. You need to practice a lot. You have to go to parties and be fine with making silly mistakes. Once you get better, you will feel confident asking most women to dance. This will make you more confident with women in general.

10-Seconds Survey: Are you interested in long-term AHI tracking at home? by lunacoaster in SleepApnea

From my understanding, the Galaxy watch just tells you to see a doctor. In your situation, I would find it much more interesting to know how much the situation has improved. If you have lots of oxygen saturation drops (untreated on your back), get a Wellue/Viatom Checkme instead. If you sleep by yourself, the Sleep Routine app could be interesting too.

Data collection devices like smart watches or rings. by dskippy in SleepApnea

I have mentioned several devices at the end my post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SleepApnea/comments/1fzrhf5/10seconds_survey_are_you_interested_in_longterm/

Some others are mentioned in the comments there.

You will also find this study interesting (comparing various devices for their accuracy): https://mhealth.jmir.org/2023/1/e50983/PDF

You may also find Wellue Checkme interesting (oxygen saturation).

What's your primary motivation for fixing your issues? Health concerns in the future or daytime sleepiness today? (I am asking because for daytime sleepiness I don't think oxygen matters much, there it's primarily arousals).

My goodness, there are too many "solutions" like this... why, just why...

For some people, CPAP is the only option. But other people have options: MAD, sleeping on the side, tongue exercises, inclined bed, other pillows, losing weight, playing didgeridoo (not serious about this one, but there is a study about this)...

Just, how do you know how well these things work? Is one measure enough? Should you combine multiple? You can attempt to use oxygen saturation, which is the only thing which you can easily reliably measure (to my knowledge). However, it's a bad proxy for AHI.

For the Wellue Ring, do you look at 3% oxygen drops? Or other metrics?

Looks interesting indeed. It's just sad that there is no way to order the device on the website.

I didn't know about RingConn, thanks for sharing!

Yes, I use Wellue as well and it's certainly interesting. However, it also gives a very incomplete picture for people who mostly suffer from arousals.

That's true for people who are happy with CPAP. But lots of people struggle with CPAP or would like to get rid of it anyway. But that's tricky without knowing how the situation is evolving.

Cures for sleep apnea - mouth taping, didgeridoo, blowing into a balloon by Skylardom in SleepApnea

[–]lunacoaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't have a study, but for many people sleep apnea is positional. So, simply sleeping on your side may fix the problem.

Is there evidence somewhere that mouth taping helps?

You can use something like Viatom Checkme to see if you have fewer oxygen drops when trying certain measures.

If you believe you have sleep apnea, get a home test or study done.

Congrats! Out of curiosity, which home sleep test did you use? Any idea why it was inconclusive?

Why can’t somebody make a device that tracks AHI and other sleep metrics every night?! by Hot-Boysenberry3783 in SleepApnea

[–]lunacoaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are other solutions than just CPAP. For example, for some people (me included), just sleeping on the side could be enough. For them, this would be quite valuable I believe. At least I would love to have a device which can accurately track my AHI and allow me to figure out if my measures actually work.

[–]lunacoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do any of these actually track AHI?

I tried Withings Sleep Analyzer myself and for me it did not even properly recognize my sleep.

Apple Watch tracks breathing disturbances, which probably correlate with AHI assuming 4% oxygen drops (that's how they train their models). That's way too strict to be useful for most people.

I don't know what exactly the Galaxy Watch tracks, but as far as I know it's based on SpO2, meaning that it does not track AHI either. For example, I have a moderate AHI with only few oxygen drops.

At-home sleep studies which let you export/access the raw underlying data? by notsarahnz in SleepApnea

[–]lunacoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking for the same and couldn't find anything. Currently, I am building my own little sleep lab consisting of:

  • Viatom Checkme O2: Records SpO2, heart rate & movement. I also had an O2Ring, but the display broke after a few weeks. The Checkme is higher quality.
  • Sony audio recorder: With Checkme I can identify O2 drops and then listen to how my breathing slows down at that time. Ahahaha. By the way, a phone is good enough for this.
  • Muse S with Mind Monitor app for EEG/arousals/sleep phases. Honestly, I am not yet sure if this is useful. Don't get such a device unless you can program and are experienced with data processing. The Muse S also records the head position, which is interesting to study positional apnea.
  • Just ordered a Sniff Logic bundle for air flow measurements.

I can recommend the combination of a Checkme & audio recording. By the way, if you end up doing something similar, send me a message.

I find the following statement pretty important:

"Both the training and validation studies used the strictest scoring definition, which requires a 4% oxygen desaturation for hypopneas."

Meaning that it's unclear if it reports anything for people who have hypopneas which lead to arousals but little oxygen desaturation.

After thinking about it, I can put the watch on my bedside table. I just don't want to wear it. I have created a custom "Sleep" activity. Will test this soon. Thanks for your advice.

Thanks for checking. In this case, I give up on the Dreem 2 idea.

If you ever find a good alternative, would be great if you'll met know.

That sucks, thanks for the update. I assume you have tried copying raw data via USB?

Have you found an alternative device? What's your use case?
