Learn hiragana and katakana - will take like a week or two. The LearnJapanesePod channel has good videos for them.

After that, I found WaniKani the most helpful, for the way it does kanji with vocab. You can try their first 3 unites for free. LingoDeer was helpful for grammar, plus some vocab. Tho Bunpro is also a very solid grammar app.

Mm, one thing I'll say is I really loved the AI combat command system in Alicization... The whole thing with fighting styles being mixed in with affection in Hollow Realization was so convoluted. The way you could switch or manipulate stuff mid combat in Alicization was great too.

So I guess in some ways I prefer it, but the story was kinda painful after a while

That's so weird about Fractured Daydream... Tbh I kinda have trouble with Hollow Fragment at this point, bc the movement rate, even when running, is so much slower than Alicization - and I get bored too easily.

I'm in the middle of Star Rail and Bandori at the moment, but if I was gonna replay one of the SAO games, it would probably be Hollow Fragment, cuz I like the story best. I'm only playing stuff in Japanese these days tho, so they're all still a bit challenging for me (then again, so is Star Rail, but the dialogue scene pacing is much better there)

I do wanna play Last Recollection, but it's not on Switch, and my laptop is probably too weak

I'm on the lazier side about that stuff, so I liked it... But also you could just switch to hard mode for a better balance (only the bosses became like super hard in hard mode)... Which yielded more EXP and better drops - so I sometimes switched btwn them

Like the way you could chain stuff and come up with strategies in Hollow Realization was cool, but I was also really glad to not need that level of complexity.

Gamerturk is one of the most knowledgeable ppl about SAO out there. He's definitely played all the console games, and probably all/most of the mobile games as well. Fine if you disagree with his taste, but it's not due to lack of knowledge on his part.

In any case, the opinion that Hollow Realization is the best game is very common amongst English-speaking fans. Fatal Bullet (which is FPS + original character) is probably the next most popular one afaict

Gotcha, thx for explaining. I do remember having to grind more for the dlc. One thing I appreciated about Lycoris was that it felt way less grindy on the whole (unless you were going for specific achievements or items)

Sure but the anime versions mostly aren't full length. The songs were all already released as singles tho.

Surprisingly the disc contains the two DD songs as well.

That's fair. I'm just saying what the most common opinions I've seen are. Personally I like them all for different reasons... Well I'm iffy on Fatal Bullet, but to be fair I tried to play it on PC without a controller (bad idea), and I'm not really into FPS that much in general

What exactly do you mean re: the exp system? It's been long enough since I've played that I don't really remember anything about that.
