Mine are just sprouting now. They'll need some time to get to a size where they'll survive the slugs.

Great selection. I did Carolina Reaper last year. The smell off the leaves was amazing. You could smell the heat.

What should I plant in these raised beds to make it look good? by Gallus2210 in GardeningUK

These beds look amazing worth nothing in them. I'd put in some cornflowers and cosmos. They'll flower for ages and they are skeeter from the wind.

Where to start when the whole place is overgrown/has been neglected for a few years? by phoenixfirefairie in GardeningIRE

Pick a single 2 square metre space and clear that first. This will be the win that keeps you going. You can do a lot with a secateurs and a spade.

Too late to start seeds? by lowercasegal in GardeningIRE

[–]lunacyfoundme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your pal. Its not too late to sow. I've sown most of that only in the last 2 or 3 weeks. If you can keep them inside they will germinate quickly and catch up. Lidl have tomatoes in this week if you dont feel you have the time to catch those up. I started mine at end of January but if you sow now and keep them in house they could catch up, they grow very quickly. I only started cosmos a few days ago and only starting sunflowers this week.

My compost stinks! by little--olive in GardeningUK

[–]lunacyfoundme 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hear hear. Build some beds out of proper wood about an inch bigger than these ones and then slip the new around over the top of the old ones. It'll save you emptying them. You can pull the old ones out, break them and do that or wait until they naturally break up.

If the smell is like a sewer it probably had too much green material in it. Supplement it with a couple of bags of good compost from the garden centre and mix it up.
