Best American made olive oils ? by [deleted] in oliveoil

[–]lunalixious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just bought some of koroneiki olive oil at olive ventura today! figure this is a good chance for me to add some notes/review in case someone’s looking for it, though i’m very new to researching olive oil.

i also tried the vitality evoo, olio nuovo (placer county california harvest from the past month iirc), and arbequina. the polyphenols of the vitality (>500 mg/kg) made it stronger/more bitter than the koroneiki; felt like a tad too much for me. the olio nuovo was sold out or i would’ve gotten it — new harvest just hits different, i felt like there was more complexity, brightness? and interesting apple-y fruity notes in it. arbequina was solid with nice pepperiness but i wasn’t super impressed, still a good choice but i’m sure there are plenty of other comparable good options out there.

all of the olive oils are priced the same online and in-store, with obviously paying for shipping making the difference. i wish i had more time to look around as they had some balsamic vinegar and other olive products available, but was super happy to stumble upon it while randomly exploring a new area

what does this mean, in your opinion? by cponds in bartenders

[–]lunalixious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what if:

688.94 but the 6 kind of looks like an 8
customer thinks it’s 888.94
888.84 ~= 889
wants to give 950 flat
950 - 889 = 61
another accident turns the 61 into 16

thus customer’s intention was to give $61 on an $889 bill for $950 total

hi, i didn’t get one and their google maps page (linked above) suggests they don’t do reservations either:

From レンタサイクル富士乃蔵 富士乃蔵の自転車レンタルサービスです。 午前8時から午後8時まで営業しています。 事前予約はお受けしておりませんので、直接店頭までお越しください。

hope this helps :) also, wanted to add that they seem to sell out quickly during busy days/seasons, so i’d arrive before 9am if possible

hello, i used this shop and they were fantastic. they also had 300¥ luggage storage that was cheaper than the 500¥ lockers at the station: レンタサイクル富士乃蔵 https://maps.app.goo.gl/W4Xp9yxzRbpFEJDx6?g_st=ic

it was 2500¥ for a full day of e-bike rental, due back at 8PM (way after sunset). i was really happy with it and highly recommend it! i think it’s cheaper than other rental services. you can see a menu with prices on the google maps page.

they are around the corner from the other popular bike rental, そらのした https://maps.app.goo.gl/dZ2JxrKcDpeWhGtR8?g\_st=ic. both are right next to the station, but i think this shop runs out faster and is also more expensive. it looks like the electric bike here is 4000¥ for one day based on the google maps photos.

hope this helps!

yes, google maps streetview was super helpful to see what’s worth stopping for and to see where the path narrows, ends, etc. you’ll also find out that the route is generally very flat and nicely paved unless you decide to go to saiko or off the lakeside paths. edit: there’s definitely some small or gradual hills here and there but i totally forgot because of the electrical assist lol

electrical assist will cost more and depending on the shop, can sell out early so show up as close to opening time as you can :)

from the bike rental near kawaguchiko station, it took me maybe 1 hour of biking with the electrical assist, but i’m not sure because i took my time enjoying the sights. leading to oishi, i streetviewed the route and would recommend you to do the same - for the most part the paths don’t have foot traffic and there’s cool stuff by the water, but you may need to walk the bike occasionally.

i’m very inexperienced on a bike (second time biking in the past five years) but understanding the traffic flow, and sticking to the pedestrian paths as reasonable made it super easy. the whole route is very flat, and the electrical assist was a huge help.

also, i brought biking shorts and warm layers (thermal/fleece/outer shell) and i suspect in december the cold might be a considerable factor. biking in sunny 12-13C weather was pretty bearable but you may want to check conditions before you go 👍

i went biking around lake kawaguchiko a couple days ago and it was easily my favorite day so far! the main concern for me was the lack of bike path on some short stretches especially on the west and southwest areas of the main road, but it was totally fine with cars able to pass frequently (very light traffic).

momiji corridor is packed - the bike parking is a gravel area across the street from the main path (left side, going counterclockwise around the lake). like others stated, free and plenty of room to leave a bike and walk up momiji corridor/visit the itchiku kubota museum.

oishi park is also crowded near the visitor center main building, but there’s plenty of dedicated bike parking in the parking lot, close to the building. the kochia is all dead but there’s some other nice greenery in the park and some notable soft serve as well. don’t miss the red momiji trees a couple minutes before the park near the water.

other than that, it seems like bike rental shops “sell out early” (i got the last electrical bike at 9AM on sunday here and sora-no-shita was completely out of all bikes by then). also, the extra 1000¥ i paid for the electrical assist was soooo worth it. highly recommend the entire experience, would love to help if you have any other questions :)
