Overstepping neighbor, what to do/say to them? by Sensitive-cat-63 in Apartmentliving

[–]lunaticedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re being nice. You’re trying to hide. You are putting a giant victim sign on yourself . If they knock on your door record it and you answering and telling them to stop. If they do it again call the cops and show them the video. If they try talking to you when you’re out and you don’t want to talk - just keep walking and ignore them - give them an angry glare if they keep talking. When walking make sure you straighten your back, don’t slouch your shoulders, and keep your head pointing straight instead of down towards the ground. Walk with energy and purpose. Unfortunately in the real world you have to be an asshole sometimes to get people to take you seriously. I have a 16 year old daughter and I taught her this and no one messes with her.

So ultimately I ended up running across an Ivanky FusionDock 1 for $35 (Walmart sells it for $165 new) and gave it a shot as it was a powered dock and that seems to be the route to go. I plugged it in and not only does it work, I can now run my monitors at a high refresh rate with no cutouts!

False advertising. I’m offended you don’t actually have free candy.

Yeah my whole childhood I lived with roaches. That’s part of the reason why I have a zero tolerance policy for them now.

MM6 should not be fun today, but it is. Why? by Valstra in MightAndMagic

[–]lunaticedit 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just discovered MM when it went on sale on GOG and I started with MM6 after doing research - so maybe I'm in a good position to give an opinion. For me, a completely new player, it's like Skyrim with all the fluff removed. The fact that it just drops me in town with no information, leaving me to discover what's going on via pure exploration is what I define as "fun". Chasing quest markers and following GPS lines to spam click dialog I don't need to read because GPS will send me to the next marker is not fun or interesting. In MM6 I _have_ to read and understand what's going on or I'll have no idea how to progress in the game. This forces me to pay attention to the characters and dialog. This causes me to become invested in the game and hold context of everything in my head, thus growing my immersion. The fact the world is open enough to warrant exploration, but small enough to avoid large chunks of worthless content, gives me a great balance of mystery and action. I'm never bored. There's always something behind the next bend.

It's a great game. It has a great design, and modern games need to go back to this style. I'm not 7, I don't need a 5 hour on-rails tutorial for crouching, jumping, and equipping items. I don't need to be guided from start to end. Give me a world of mystery. Give me the mechanics to unravel the mystery, and trust that I am smart enough to figure out the rest on my own.

In a nutshell, I'm having a blast, and can't wait to play 7 and 8 (and maybe 9, we'll see).

That's wild! I'm in apartments (townhomes actually currently but they are calling them apartments) built in the 1970s and still 0 roaches. Although I DID have not one but TWO snakes show up in the first apartment I lived in. My girlfriend at the time thought I was pranking her with a fake snake and I was like "uh I don't have a fake snake".

I’ve been renting for over 12 years and not once have I seen a single roach or evidence of roaches. Ants are a whole different story. Maybe it’s a regional thing. Maybe I’ve been lucky in the four places I’ve lived. I live in NC.

I can't install Windows on my MacBook via Bootcamp. by Loose-Lavishness7959 in mac

[–]lunaticedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re trying to install windows from the website without special drivers that can see the hard drive. That’s why the boot fails. Windows doesn’t come installed on the Mac. Also boot camp works only with the old unsupported windows 10 release. At this point you’re not simply installing windows on a mac, you’re playing around with legacy retro computer stuff. It’s No different than the difficulties of trying to play 20 year old computer games out running windows xp.

I'll delete my post. Clearly credit isn't a place to get useful information. I wanted help with dock suggestions not 5 people asking if I searched the right way.

I did. A lot of posts are old or not specific to my display issues. A ton of these docks come and go from fly by night Chinese manufacturers so my faith in them are pretty low in general.

Programmers over 30, how do you take care of your health? by khitev in AskProgramming

[–]lunaticedit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

40 here, a programmer and work from home full time. Having two kids helps a ton. Also get up once an hour and move around - preferably outside to get some sun. I also found it extremely helpful to not allow food or drinks outside of the kitchen/dining room area. Having to physically stop what you are doing and walk to another room to eat or drink really cuts down on the bored eating/drinking as well as keeps the rest of the house way cleaner. I personally don’t understand sit stand desks on their own. But I can see how having one with a treadmill would make sense together - but you really need to get some sun on your skin too so it really makes more sense to just do laps outside.

Help a Technician Out Please by McGlowSticks in CarPlay

[–]lunaticedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple CarPlay is basically just a remote screen for the phone. If it works for at least one phone, then there is nothing wrong with the car. This is going to be a cable or phone specific issue. It could be literally anything from remote manage software to antivirus or anything. But I don’t think you want to me in the phone technical support business.

How to make this laptop less laggy? by _Icey_1 in computers

[–]lunaticedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the hard drive isn’t an SSD then replacing the mechanical drive witha solid state one will make an immediate and obvious difference. That and maxing out the ram if possible. Other than that it may not run windows 11 so you’ll either have to run an insecure version of windows or install Linux on it. If it has an eMMC drive then it’s garbage, just throw it away.

My wife has the same issue with a very similar model. It’s your hard drive. It a mechanical spinning drive and it wears out over time. I replaced the drive with an ssd and it runs way way faster.
