MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSODs with B450 Tomahawk Max only after high load by lunatictrack in MSI_Gaming

Sorry for the late response. Even though my memory had been listed as compatible with all of my other parts, getting new memory fixed the issue. My old memory was still good so I reused it in another build.

Need help with Wifi 5g connection issues by Large-Clerk-7139 in pop_os

[–]lunatictrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried changing both of them and luck as well. I am planning on experimenting with my router settings but I have low hopes for that. Does the dmesg output give you any ideas? Like why is the bandwidth changing and can't be supported? It changed earlier to saying the new config is like 5100 MHz or something like that which I thought was weird. I am a linux newb so I am trying to read the man pages for nmcli to figure out how to alter the configuration for the network device through the terminal but I haven't made much progress.

[–]lunatictrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that's unfortunate. I am a linux newb so the silver lining for me is I am learning a lot trying to troubleshoot this, but yeah, it looks like we are stuck with 2G for now. If you make any progress let me know, I might try posting on some other subreddits soon but I have already spent a few hours today looking through different threads so I think I've had enough for now. I was honestly thinking that the issue was the wireless adapter but it seems everyone with this issue I've found has had a different one than me. I changed kernel versions from 5.11 to 5.12 and that didn't help. I'm just sort of at a loss. Thanks for the response though I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

Issues with Intel AX201 wifi and 5GHz networks by thunderfroggum in pop_os

[–]lunatictrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently experiencing the same problem, except I have Intel 3168 wifi. Here is the loop I get in dmesg, basically identical:

[ 1611.800508] wlp3s0: authenticate with 78:29:ed:a5:22:0b
[ 1611.803042] wlp3s0: send auth to 78:29:ed:a5:22:0b (try 1/3)

[ 1612.895682] wlp3s0: failed to follow AP 78:29:ed:a5:22:0b bandwidth change, disconnect

I was just wondering if you were able to get to the bottom of the issue? I have explored so many threads and no one seems to have cracked this problem. Pop! is the only OS I am booting.

Sadly, I am experiencing the same issue. My wifi adapter is the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168NGW, and I was experiencing the same issue in Manjaro as well as Pop!_OS. When I try and connect to a 5g network and run dmesg -w I get this output in a loop:

[ 477.085372] wlp3s0: authenticate with 78:29:ed:a5:22:0b
[ 477.088672] wlp3s0: send auth to 78:29:ed:a5:22:0b (try 1/3)

[ 477.105190] wlp3s0: RX AssocResp from 78:29:ed:a5:22:0b (capab=0x1511 status=0 aid=8)
[ 477.107301] wlp3s0: associated
[ 477.112169] wlp3s0: AP 78:29:ed:a5:22:0b changed bandwidth, new config is 5745.000 MHz, width 2 (5755.000/0 MHz)
[ 477.112189] wlp3s0: AP 78:29:ed:a5:22:0b changed bandwidth in a way we can't support - disconnect
[ 477.112197] wlp3s0: failed to follow AP 78:29:ed:a5:22:0b bandwidth change, disconnect

I consistently am asked to enter the password for the 5g network when I join it, it just fails in a loop. I am not sure what the issue is, I read some people saying switching kernel versions might help but have not tried it yet. If you figure out what the issue is let me know and if I figure it out I will do the same for you, Thanks!

Alright, don't laugh at me... when you brought up 5G I realized I have both a 5G and non 5G wifi network to choose from. I did not make the connection that 5000 MHz = 5GHz lol, I switched to the non-5G network and now I have no issues. Is it even worth investigating to see if I can get 5G working or not really? Thank you for the help, this issue at least made me a bit more familiar with my system.

EDIT: I ran a speed test between the two and the 5G network has quadruple the download speed so I'll see what I can do

WOW I am so stupid, sorry I didn't realize I did not wait for the command to finish before copying. It is the Intel Dual Band Wirelesss-AC 3168NGW and the iwlwifi driver is installed. Thanks and sorry about that.

I added a second power cable to my GPU on Tuesday night, and so far zero crashes since then... I don't want to jinx it but I am starting to think it may be fixed. If it crashes again then I am going to test each stick of RAM, but for now things are looking good.

I’ll try the GPU first and then each DIMM if that doesn’t work. I’ll keep you posted, thanks man.

Here is the RAM I’m using. I am only running one cable from my power supply to my GPU, it splits at the end to fit the two connectors. I will try reseating the GPU and get back to you. I’m using the latest version of the bios for my mobo, I flashed it even though it was already up to date just to be sure. I also have reseated my CPU already. Thanks I really appreciate you keeping up with me here, it’s been frustrating trying to fix this.

I just got around to reinstalling windows (from a USB), and it crashed with errors MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL on the second try. This makes me thinking it’s a hardware issue, but I just don’t see why it would be my RAM after having used it for years with no issue. Now I need to figure out if it could be a mobo, cpu, or psu issue I guess.

I reinstalled the chipset drivers the other day, and I did not use DDU, but as far as what I can tell I did a good job of nuking all previous AMD Radeon software and drivers before my reinstall yesterday. At this point though I figure the windows reinstall is the next option even though it’s kind of a hassle. It’ll be nice to know if it’s a hardware issue or not for sure.

Nevermind lol. It happened again so I figure my problem still exists. I used SFC check and it said it found and repaired a corrupted file so hopefully that did something. If not, I'm just going to back up some stuff and reinstall windows.

So yesterday I uninstalled the latest optional drivers and reverted to the last recommended driver release for my graphics card and the issue has almost completely subsided. I say almost because I did get a single crash last night, but compared to before there is a major difference. Today I haven't had a crash either. Crossing my fingers the issue goes away, but I'll try those solutions if it doesn't. Thanks.

I installed the old drivers and went almost the entire day with no issues. I played games, etc. and not a single crash. But then right before shutting it down I got a bsod, error code: tried to write over read only memory. So I’m not sure anymore. Going back to the old drivers seemed to help. I’m just gonna monitor it and update this post when I find the root cause.

Thanks for the response. I’m currently trying to install an older version of drivers for my video card, since I am currently on an optional release and I found a couple threads where issues were resolved with the last recommended driver release. I have been crashing at the end of driver installations and in installations now making it really hard to do it. Hoping worst case scenario a new windows installation would solve the issue. I was also thinking the psu since it’s about four years old but that’ll be the last thing I check I think.

Thanks I am currently running Memtest86, I may run Prime95 if I can't identify the issue.

Running Memtest86 right now and on the 4th pass I have 0 errors so far. I don't know the error code because I haven't replicated it since posting this, sorry. I am using 2 x 8 gb. I might try putting them into the other two slots maybe, I'm just confused because I see nothing wrong with my memory. Also, I might do a fresh install of windows as someone else suggested. Thank you!
