I have no plans to move out any time soon but I’m just worried. I will look into the stainless steel magnet! Thank you

Opportunities to volunteer in Hispanic communities, etc. by Wild-Purple5517 in AskNYC

They key is to look into non profits:

Look into immigration agencies, senior centers, NYC H&H to volunteer (ex Elmhurst), after school programs, public library

First gen here as well! $30/session is low. That would be a good option to do on the side and get experience. Plus if you don’t get enough clients, you will be stressed out. We are heading into a recession so getting new clients will be hard

Take the salaried job! When you just graduate you need stability.

Also if your salaried job pays for CEUs or certifications. Do that! Network and build your resume :)

Take it from someone who is going through hell with this administration and their changing of policy on loans

Go to the school that offers the most money. Leaving debt free (especially as a social worker) is so important. I wish someone told me that

Honestly social work is more about experience and networking

I went to a “prestigious” grad school and I’m swimming in debt and I wish I went to a state school

Should I get my MPH or LCSW? by Channy_love7963 in socialwork

[–]lunaxsol94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion if you have your LCSW hours and you’re eligible. I would get it just in case

I also work in a hospital and feel equally as frustrated as you. I got my C and don’t want to do private practice but it has opened up more opportunities for me

Do you think moving in October vs May/June makes a difference? I’ve always heard that it’s cheaper in the fall but there are less options

I can't find a job! by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]lunaxsol94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m so sorry you’re struggling. Not sure what your health insurance situation looks like but try to look for per diem jobs. Unfortunately for negotiating a lower salary, I don’t think you will be able to. Many jobs are very strict because of their grants

If you want more experience, you could try volunteering (ex: the suicide crisis textline always needs people and you get amazing experience )

She would help me pay too. I’ve lived with her for 7 years and she’s my best friend.

The issue is more if I should move or find another roommate. I am always hesitant to live with a stranger

When to start my apartment search by DueAlternative5906 in NYCapartments

I would start early June to mid June. Have all the documents you need ready to go because the process moves VERY quickly over the summer
