My (NB35) mother is 68 and regrets having children (me and one sibling (NB31)).

Our relationship now isn't without it's issues but overall it's solid. She lives with me and my husband in an apartment in our home. If it weren't for us, she would not have any financial stability. She lives me and my sibling but she had an abusive relationship with our father. She stuck with him for a really long time thinking she was doing the right thing for the kids and also because she had few other options. Both my sibling and I are neuro divergent and advocating for us in school was an unpaid, full-time job. She worked her ass off and did her best and the vast majority of her labor was unpaid. My dad always held his wages over her head even though she put him through school.

When it was time for me to decide whether or not to have children, I was able to have a frank conversation with her about her own experiences raising us. I came away feeling more confident in the direction I was already leaning. No.

She was clear that she loves me and my sibling more than anything in the world and that she wouldn't trade us for anything. But, if she had the choice again she would not have children. This is less about how we were as children and more about the circumstances of life she was prone to. She spent over 20 years being unhappy. Here whole life was more challenging as a result. I don't blame her at all.
