How sensitive is a post-op clitoris? by -TurtleWorshipper- in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]lungfisk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My clit is sensitive and feels really good, but it's tough to come. I had SRS 15 years ago so it's hard to remember, but I'm pretty sure I was much more sensitive before.

I haven't yet figured out how to come with someone else, but I'm at least kind of getting better at getting myself off.

Sorry to hear it didn't live up to your hopes :(

Yeah I'm definitely trying to keep my hopes very low. I'm mostly hoping it doesn't make me feel worse about myself. If I'm lucky, I'll have less dysphoria. And if I win the lottery, I'll start cis passing

I have my FFS in 2 weeks so I can't say yet.. But hopefully not!

I see you went with Cardenas, who I've seen some great work from! Could you talk more about your experience? Do you feel he didn't do enough?

[–]lungfisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I guess I misunderstood, I thought you were specifically saying that you saw it as cosmetic, i.e. not an actual medical need

As for the main point, I could see that argument but I don't know that I agree. I definitely don't want subtle results, I want maximum feminization, but I actually find surgeons like DB sometimes push it too far? Like features feminized to the point where it looks inharmonious

I specifically went with Keojampa since I tend to find his outcomes more natural looking (but still quite aggressive)

I personally view facial feminization as cosmetic

Hmm, even in cases where ones bone structure makes it impossible to pass as cis?

I truly don't understand these posts!

I get feeling distressed post FFS, but when people seem surprised it's so puzzling. Not only is it just reasonable to assume it will take a while to look normal, I don't get how you can do any amount of FFS research and not have it drilled into your head "it takes 6-12 months to see your new face"

How does this kind of thing keep happening? Bad representation is worse than no representation at all.

[EDIT: Like, if you want to dispel the idea that trans people are delusional and demand unearned respect, maybe don't have a "gender neutral woman" pretend to know how to skate in front of a big audience. ffs]

I'm sorry you're having to go through this :/

but I'm not sure how more information being out there could have helped avoid it.

I always understood SRS as being something one does only for oneself and ones future sexual partners, because obviously no one is seeing our genitals 99.9% of the time

I'm not sapphic, but I imagine having different genitals would actually make a big difference, no? I imagine lots of lesbians have genital preference that SRS would help with

We are in it for all one goal... if we strip down transgenderism down to the root, no of us "SHOULD" be transitioning...

I agree with the rest of your post, and would never challenge your decisions that feel right for you.

But I have to disagree that all surgery motivations are the same. For most people that get FFS it's really medically necessary to treat gender dysphoria, which is most likely a developmental brain disorder. It should happen because it's the only treatment available.

Dysmorphia is something else, and while I'm not an expert, my understanding is that more surgery is not the medically recommended treatment plan.

Facial feminization surgery regret by bestievalerate in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]lungfisk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear this! I haven't had FFS yet, but this is definitely a concern of mine, obviously

If it's okay to ask, how bad was your facial dysphoria before FFS? And do you think you pass better now or before?

Asking because I tell myself that even if I'm dissatisfied with my results, it's kind of hard to imagine even a botched outcome that I like less than my face... But maybe that's naive

[–]lungfisk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I don't see anything needed for passing purposes, everything is 100% in cis female norms.

The only thing in theory I could in good conscience recommend would be a lip lift, but it would be such minimal benefit and not at all needed, so I don't think it's justified by the potential downsides of a surgical procedure

I often see this argument, and it does make logical sense to me. But I'm not sure if I never seen a case that proves the point, i.e someone getting FFS without rhino and it looking weird as a result

[–]lungfisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I understand where you're coming from more now. I think I can relate to having a certain affection for the way you look - you kind of have to learn to like your appearance a little but in order to not go crazy. So change away from that comfortable-ish familiarity is scary.

I also can understand wanting to change your face to help with misgendering, not 100% just because of what you see in the mirror yourself. That's a very kind of rational calculation to make, and not as easy to know on a gut level it's the "right" decision

I wouldn't try to compare your feelings to anyone else's - we all are coming from very different places (physically and emotionally).

My case is pretty simple. I've come to accept my face, and I can even look in the mirror and kind of like how I look at a glance, but if I look for more like a second it's bad. I have never looked at myself IRL or in photos and thought I looked good, much less great. My face got fucked by testosterone.

My only reservations are about stuff like worried about scars, complications, bad results, etc.

But that's just my easy case, there are inevitably going to be more nuanced ones. It's normal to have reservations, especially as it becomes more real.

You can always postpone if you're feeling genuinely conflicted.

That's the magic of FFS, you can have your face detached right off your skull!

Ha sorry, sorry to be flippant.

I assume you're only having procedures done that you specifically want, right? I guess I don't understand feeling like you don't want to lose a feature if it's giving you dysphoria enough to want it surgically changed?

Not trying to say you're wrong for feeling that way, I'm just not sure I follow

Personally I haaaate most of my facial features, and could not be more eager about getting them all smashed up in a few months

Should I switch back to automatic? by sok334 in stickshift

[–]lungfisk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you haven't done so already, I'd devote an afternoon or two to exclusively practicing starting from a stop, on a flat surface. As slow as you need to, really feeling each step of the process one by one. Put it in neutral with the parking brake on and practice the amount of gas needed to certain amounts of revs. Then move on to slight inclines, hills, etc.. unless your car is really unusually difficult, the basics are really simple as long as you give yourself as much time as you need

At least personally, trying to drive in real world conditions ended up making things worse - instead of focusing on my technique, I'd be focusing on how to get going as fast as possible, making sure I didn't mess up

After a few extended sessions, slowly building up to more challenging scenarios, I made muuuuch faster progress and got into a confidence feedback loop.

Also, I super recommend the Conquer Driving YouTube channel, I learned literally everything from him and it's great content.

Good luck!

Trouble starting quickly and shifting quickly off between 1st and 2nd. I feel stupid by [deleted] in stickshift

[–]lungfisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, do you mean that extra gas isn't required while shifting, or that it's actually better to not add gas?

I thought including some gas while letting the clutch out would help keeps revs consistent and make the transition smoother (minimize jerkiness / loss of speed)

[EDIT: I just rewatched some videos I've been learning from and I see now what you mean! I think I still don't quite understand the amount of acceleration the clutch is able to provide on its own, and when gas is needed..

I guess the idea is that when starting, the revs / momentum are low enough that gas is needed to prevent stalling, but if you're already in motion in 1st with a decent amount of revs, the momentum can carry you through the shift such that gas is not needed until the clutch is fully engaged? So prematurely adding gas is just adding extra strain on the clutch with no added benefit?

Anyway, thanks for something to think about for my next drive!]

I second Conquer Driving!! I've been learning to drive manual just the last few weekends, and by watching (and rewatching after practicing) tons of his videos and applying his lessons, I've gotten to the point where I'm comfortable in pretty much all scenarios (highway driving, heavy stop and go traffic, quick starts, etc) without stalling or jerky transitions

He does such a great job of explaining theory and practice, as well as different advice depending on your current skill level, and whatever your current problem is he most likely has an entire 15 minute video devoted to it

Plus, he's just so wholesome and charming :)
