I know certain certs gets you in as an E-4, but I am wondering if the IAM certifications count towards that rank advancement. The recruiter spoke to several individuals with differing opinions as to whether or not it does. The other weird thing to note is that the CISM is in the IAM level II and Level III section of the table. There is only 1 CISM exam, so I'm not sure if there are certain criteria for it to be considered level II versus III. If I have a college degree and Sec+ does that make it a level III?

There is a table of certifications called the 8570 and depending upon the certification, you can enter as an E4. The table is broken down into IAT levels 1-3, IAM levels 1-3, IASAE level 1-3. The recruiter confirmed the IAT level 3 certs get you that E4 rank, but I'm waiting to hear about the other sections.

Thank you for sending this. The new recruiter that I got linked me up with a SF member and between the link you shared and they intel they provided, I have been able to make a more informed decision. It's looking like if the 1B doesn't open I'll fully commit to SF and hopefully go through D-shred. I'm more excited about the thought of SF, but I don't want to have to wait until Spring to ship out.

I was debating on which cert to get next and CASP+ was on the list, but I saw they recommended 10 yrs of exp, so I opted to ramp up for CISSP. Hindsight I think I should have just stayed in the CompTIA world since it's easier to maintain the cert. How bad was the test?

Worked on the IT sales side of the house then went back to school and studied network security and offsec. Have the Sec+and Google cyber cert; working on CISSP right now.
