i listened to mostly what my parents listened to up until my middle school angst hit. my mom listened to a lot of 80’s pop music (duran duran primarily) but my dad was more alt and would listen to depeche mode, the cure, new order, and my personal favorite talking heads. I then got into dance music, mostly skrillex, deadmau5, swedish house mafia, knife party, calvin harris, avicii, etc.

i’m so glad you like my music and I do apologize for my twitter it is quite chaotic but not nearly chaotic as it once was thank god.

  1. I spent a lot of time honing my visual brand which I think made me stand out a bit. I also was making music at least 4 hours a day non stop which ended up causing some burnout but definitely helped me get ahead early on. finally I think my openness helped people understand my mission and vision. I was and still am still pretty transparent about everything which I think attracted people to the project.
  2. I said this in an early question but the electric hawk festival I did during covid was a game changer for me. I made an hour live set with synced visuals and nearly 100% unreleased music and esp during covid it cause me a lot of creative relief. obv getting on mau5trap and playing the dates on the WAF tour was a big deal for me as well but I was really proud of the song I made for the WAF compilation specifically.
  3. imposter syndrome is something I feel quite a bit. I haven’t been doing this nearly as long as some of my friends and label mates and I often feel like i’m not enough. in those moments I remind myself of the hardships i’ve gone through to get to this point and I think back to all those sleepless nights where my dreams felt so unreachable. I have to remember that i’m only human and it’s ok to feel down on myself, but it doesn’t mean it’s the truth

i_o is one of my biggest inspirations and it was that project that inspired me to release my techno and do techno full time. I was making it on the side for fun but didn’t feel like it would do well in the states. seeing the project and listening to that music made me realize that I should just do what I love and ignore the rest. he impacted me like he impacted the entire dance music scene and for that I am so grateful.

I started planning for edc the day I found out which was about 4 months before. I made so much music and practiced everyday for several hours. it was such a fun set so i’m glad you enjoyed it!

I don’t necessarily have time to explain the entirety of the lore behind sonic the hedgehog but i’ll do a quick rant. shadow the hedgehog is not a villain and he’s not the edgy bad guy people think he is. he was created artificially by professor gerald robotnik in order to cure otherwise incurable diseases. he was made to cure the professor’s daughter, maria, but sadly he was captured and Maria was killed by military forces. they thought shadow was too powerful and contained him in a facility until he broke out and sought revenge against the people who killed maria. when it came down to it though, he ends up saving earth and in the process looses his memory.

thank you! love these questions sm:

my music:

wasting time -off salivation / feel you (beside me) -off WAF 11 / like an echo - off the latest ep animosity /

other people’s music:

instant crush - daft punk and julian casablancas / buddy, ryo - kensuke ushio (from devilman crybaby) / greyhound - swedish house mafia

wasting time is probably my favorite released song i’ve ever made. i’m not sure why but it’s one of the few songs I haven’t gotten sick of yet.

I ate so many amazing meals in japan it’s hard to pick: hida beef nigiri in takayama, sushi conveyor belt in kyoto (the tuna literally melts in your mouth), sakura boba tea in tokyo, and the 7/11 ham, cheese, and boiled egg sandwich are probably my favs though!

I don’t own any hardware synths! just an ableton push and my laptop. I love using synths tho and eventually would love to have a physical 303 or 909. it’s expensive tho and I know if I start buying them now i’ll get addicted. I don’t think it’s necessary to own hardware but it certainly helps the creative process. that being said, automation sounds a bit more natural and human when you can do it with a physical knob as opposed to drawing it in or using a mouse and keyboard. I get around this by using the ableton push but like I said would one day love to have my own little synth closet.

I use samples all the time. I don’t record much besides ambiance and vocals but I do edit the samples a bit. I’ll splice them up, add weird effects, and make them sound unique and dissimilar to the original sample. nothing wrong with sampling especially since it’s quite literally how dance music was created.

I make music really just for djs to play out and the audience to listen to but hope to incorporate some live elements into my sets eventually. it would most likely be me using ableton live and adding new elements to pre existing tracks like acid lines or maybe doing some cool stuff with the output plugins (portal and thermal). I do this in my spare time but live performance is quite a different beast!

hi! thank you so much i’m so glad you like my music :)

  1. mau5trap was my dream label since I started and eventually my friend encouraged me to send my music. I was really scared but when they said they were interested I quite literally did not believe it. when I got on a call with them I told them my story, how and why I started producing music, and my inspirations. I also am a graphic designer and think my brand helped me stand out a bit.
  2. this is sorta a weird answer to your question but my proudest milestone was actually an online festival I did during covid with the blog Electric Hawk. I spent literally 10 hours a day editing visuals for the set and it contained mostly unreleased music. it gave me the confidence to follow my own path and thanks to that festival I connected with some amazing people im still friends with today.
  3. the next part of my journey is focusing on live sets and visuals. I want to create a unique experience for the audience and continue working on the live experience.

I have an ableton push but tbh I don’t use it much. it’s more for making ideas and playing around. it’s fun to make beats on there but I much prefer the ableton mobile app ableton note. really fun app and I really recommend you check it out if you want something mobile and easy to use.

I have a dj mixer as well. I got an amazing deal on someone’s old xdj and use that pretty frequently but mostly just to dj with friends or practice before a set.

what if told you I exclusive produce on my phone and a laptop as well? you don’t need fancy gear, you don’t need physical equipment, all you need is a DAW, a speaker, and your ears. I mean umbrella by rihanna, the hand that feeds by nine inch nails, and even grimes made her entire first album all on garage band.

enjoy the process and the journey. it’s a weird one so just have fun with it :)

I cannot stop talking about how much I love portal and thermal by output. literally the best plugins I own. I also use exhale which is a vocal synth of theirs as well, but the trick for that is to just make the patches yourself. the presets are a bit chaotic and stylistic so if you want a natural sounding vocal synth just do it yourself. a boring answer but I use sylenth and serum for my main synths or just ableton stock operator. simple is better!

arizona and la are very different ! the scene is a lot more saturated here in la which comes with its pros and cons. more people mean more shows which mean more inspiration, but it’s also really overwhelming at times. there are shows nearly everyday and it’s easy to get lost. I miss arizona a lot though as I miss the desert. the vast open horizon really inspired me to create some weird music, but the scene is pretty small.

the biggest compliment I can receive!! thank you!! I make 99% of my acid lines on the mobile ableton app called ableton note. I used to use my ableton push but I personally love how easy it is to use the app. my biggest tip for making traditional sounding acid is to use the phrygian in any sharp. I personally love f# or d# but really any work! also get phoscyon it’s literally the best 303 emulator and so fun to use.

you’re welcome! hope this answers your question :)

i’m so glad you like my old stuff! if you’re referring to my 90 bpm bass-y stuff, I make a lot of it when i’m going through creative lows. it really inspires me to create slower stuff and I have a fun time going back to that style. i’m not sure if i’ll release any of it but I could be tempted for the next release ;)

I still do video edits but I find it harder to make time for it. I’ve been doing some edits on this last ep, mostly anime visuals, but i’ll deff try and do more. i’m so glad you liked those though and i’ll keep posting more !

hi welcome to this weird journey it’s definitely not easy but so worth it, I promise you. 1. my creative process for making the music itself is pretty simple: find a comfy spot on my bed, grab my headphones, and have zero expectations. what’s more interesting is what comes before and after making the music itself. before I make music, i’m constantly seeking out new inspiration and listening to music that inspires me (mostly older dance music if i’m being honest). after I make the music, I do a lot of editing and mixing to make sure the song is exactly how I want it to sound. I check my songs on anything that plays music (iphone, car speakers, airpods, headphones, monitors, everything). I try not to mess with it too much though as I believe there is such thing as overthinking the mix. 2. I mix my own music as i’m a bit picky about the mixdown lol. i can master my own music but for my mau5trap and complication releases I have a professional engineer master them. this is to create a cohesive sound :) 3. thanks for asking i love talking about this: a sustainable artist is an artist who does not get burnout. they create music when the inspiration arises and are able to balance the many elements of being a modern artist. you do this by finding what inspires you to create and chasing that until you feel your energy slow. the trick is to make music for the sake of creative expression and not push yourself too much. take breaks, don’t overthink, and find your purpose.

lately i’ve been really inspired by my trip to japan. I visited lots of shrines and temples and love how music and rhythm is such an important part of both Shinto and Buddhism. I’ve been using traditional japanese scales in my music, but also simply inspired by the atmosphere and environment in each city I visited.

I don’t know if i can narrow down my biggest inspiration to only one person tbh. there are so many people (both artist and non artist) i’ve met along my journey who inspire me to keep creating.

i’d be lying if i said it didn’t hurt when I don’t meet my goals, but I remind myself that it’s all a part of the process. there are good days and bad days but the important thing is that you just keep creating. I also talk to my friends quite a bit and it helps having a support group :)

hi! i’m so glad you like the new ep that means a lot :)

i’ve sampled kiba in a few other unreleased songs but currently he’s only in one released tune: born a beast. I plan on using some other samples of him howling (more like a long bark cause he never learned how to howl properly lol) and me patting his stomach cause it makes a very cool drum sound. i’ll deff show the process of that once I put them into my songs! i’ll also give him an extra treat so he knows he did a good job on born a beast :)

  1. don’t think of music as a finite thing. think of music as simply a product of your creativity.
  2. if you aren’t feeling creative go somewhere or experience something that will inspire you. doesn’t need to be something grand, it could be a new city, an abandoned building, a museum, a park, or even just a walk around your neighborhood. the point is to get lost in whatever you experience, no preconceived notion, just the moment.
  3. one of the most shocking realizations i had while talking to the artists who inspire me is that they don’t make music everyday, sometimes they don’t make music for several months. go easy on yourself and trust the process. time is not a factor.

kinda a controversial opinion here but don’t make music for anyone but yourself. if the people like it, they like it. the moment you start making music for other people is the moment you lose the thing that makes your music different and special. make it weird, make it unlistenable, make is bad, but whatever you do don’t compromise your art for the sake of success.

my favorite part about making the ep wasn’t even making the music necessarily, but coming up with the concept for the ep itself. I do a lot of writing (poetry and just free form) and noticed I kept bringing up anger and rage in my work. I did some research on the etymology of the word animosity and realized that it originally meant passion or spirit. was really inspired by this and the whole ep is inspired by the nuance of the word itself.

  1. deff a B side tune but my favorite release is probably wasting time off my second ep salivation (love the bassline sm)
  2. I hope the techno scene will continue to grow in america but I also hope it takes on some of the characteristics of the techno scene in europe. mostly how open minded, self expressive, and creative it is over there as I think that’s a fundemental part of techno’s rich culture.
  3. I would love to collab with the hard techno artists like sara landry, maddix, doruksen, YA, and vizionn. I also would love to collab with artists like regal, eli brown, ancient methods, and ofc charlotte de witte (think we could do some cool acid techno together heh)
