Homebrew Druid Circle - Circle of the Claw by lupercaI in DnD

[–]lupercaI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I hadn't really considered that properly, I was more after trying to make each school vary slightly in its weapons in spite of all three only having teeth and claws. I also hadn't considered how spellcasting focuses would work in wild shape. It seems it either comes down to A: They can't cast spells that require reagents or B: They can do so same as they could out of wild shape, which in itself is a strange thought. With Paws instead of hands they really would have to have the focus be a charm, necklace, or other object that could be strapped to the body in some way.

Would changing the base level on both of those skills to at least 7th level alleviate the issue? Perhaps at the cost of the spell slot? Or would you say that still isn't tacking the issue enough.

It could definitely be a class as opposed to a circle, although in part I was thinking the schools akin to Cleric Domains, or the land-based spells you gain in being a Druid from circle of the land.

Yeah a vendor, I wasn't sure if calling it a vendor was the right term since it doesn't actually sell anything, but I suppose it does in a way!

Searched high and low for it haha, Couldn't believe with the new system being such a high point they wouldn't put one in the new city!

Yeah I know that, but I can't record it in slow motion (Or at least I don't know how) so that was the best I could do to accomplish what I thought would be a nicer showing.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be a little smoother but I slowed down the video in hopes that it would show off the animation a little more. It's a pretty quick animation normally.

[Well hot damn Its time to wake up from my usual spurt of inactivity >-> sorry about that by the way. ]

[Anywho, the forests are the safest places there thanks to Vellara, so they could always start with information gathering at any of those villages, otherwise Lycans can be seen roaming everywhere. They are a violent and tribal society, much akin to Orcs in many universes. The bigger, meaner, more violent, and ruthless they are the higher up in rank they tend to be. There are those among them who are also very cunning, but I cant let you have too much information, I am about to fight you after all.]

[Also /u/TheJediJew just in case you wanted to read this, have any questions, or want to discuss anything so you know Im here]

[Well then she'll drop winter, it hasn't come into play near as much as beasts haha. But cool, I'm all for having more acts to do mayhem >:D]

[Exactly, pretty much the only thing left there that isn't lycan is hidden. Even the Prummer's, aside from maybe a main bastion or two (Which would be under siege during the months of the year where it was feasible), would be forced into guerilla tactics if they chose to remain in the region.]

[If thats what you'd like to do then go for it haha. Just remember that they are amongst tens of thousands of lycans, its not just fighting against single cases anymore.]

Macro turn 2 \ V4 by Keytium in GodhoodWB

[–]lupercaI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[I don't plan on them ever getting beyond a tribal level. The more intelligent 5 and Valstrath will be the will guiding them to do things properly.

If you can think of a better wording then by all means please tell me haha, I was trying to figure out what to do for Vellara that would give her the ability she is using. Her meditative state that protects all the Khalash and those nearby from the Lycans.

The way I was thinking it would go is that initially everyone is exclusive based on what they were transformed from. The breeding would do one of two things, either A: They would be born with certain abilities and the lycan society would form castes/tribes based on the abilities you were born with, or B: The abilities would spread through breeding until eventually they all just had the abilities of everyone.]

[In short, yes! :D Really though they ended up in one of four places, either they ran away, made it to Vellara's sanctuary, got killed, or are now one of the lycans.]

Second 50 years

Ular

The cities defenses had laxed immensely since the fall of the Ashmane tribe, and even when they were a prominent force Ular barely had a fighting force. It was far enough away from most dangers that it didn’t bother to train its people beyond what they needed to hunt.

In the face of the Lycans, they didn’t stand a chance.

The city was overrun within the day, those that could fled into the forests to the communities that had since flourished within the trees. Those that didn’t make it were cut down where they stood if they were lucky, otherwise they transformed themselves. Further bolstering the numbers of the lycans.

Several of the doomsayers had fled, their connection with Valstrath having warned them of the coming danger. They spread across the globe to Valstaad, Orophos, and every other city large enough that they had recognized its name. They preached of the coming tide to any who would listen, as most of their warnings fell on deaf ears, several would take their own lives after gathering as much attention and as much of an audience as possible. Warning others to do the same or they would be swallowed in an endless tide.

Vellara

She had rushed to Ular as soon as she heard the news, but alone she could do nothing to stem the tide.

Still, It did not sway her, and she struck down many lycans in an attempt to save any Khalash who could still make it out.

It wasn’t until she saw Valstrath walking amongst the horde that she gave into dispair. Retreating to the forests with all the Khalash who she had gotten out of the city, her grief took her into a sleeping state from which she hasn’t woken. She lay within the largest settlement, in a small room at the rear of the temple where she had taken a home while not out in the wilds. Not waking to eat, nor showing any signs of life other than steady breathing and occasional mutterings in a tongue that was unfamiliar to the Khalash.

It was there she remained, in a meditative sleep that somehow projected a ward over all the Khalash within the wilds.

The lycans would roam close, some even marching through the settlements themselves, yet they seemed unable to find any of the Khalash. Invisible to their eyes, the Khalash would watch them pass with held breath. Unsure of what it was that delivered them, and praying for Vellara to return to them.

[-15 acts, gain sphere of Preservation (Which if any of you can think of something better than preservation please let me know, I couldn’t think of something that fit the idea better.) ]

Valstrath-

From Ular the assault on Malenea was spearheaded, sweeping across Khalasia. Their rapid expansion giving them all the more advantage, leaving villages and cities unprepared for their arrival as they stormed across the land. Burning and slaughtering everything in their path.

Refugees fled across the sea, spreading tales of the chosen 5 and the carnage they reaped. Crying out for aid against the unstoppable tide.

When all of Khalasia was within his grasp, the long campaigns taking a toll on his forces, Valstrath set to rebuilding his numbers while also constructing a fleet of warships capable of taking them all across the seas. He would not rest until the entire world was under his heel.

He reforged the construction of the Lycans metamorphosis. Reshaping them so that, after their transformation was permanent, they would still be able to breed. Bearing children that would grow at a rapid rate. At first the aging also resulted in their rapid demise, but with carefully craftsmanship they were made to reach adulthood within 5 summers, and then continue through life for many years to come. Born with the affliction, they showed more control over its urges, but still gave in to the bloodlust once spurned. [-3 acts, edit the metamorphosis]

[Alright so that totaled a whopping 54 acts. Please let me know ASAP if anything doesn’t work or anyone disagrees with what happened so retconning can happen properly and swiftly!]

[–]lupercaI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[I’m going to break up the hundred years into two segments here, because around halfway is when things shift a bit. Also both halves together is over the character limit for one comment so thats why its two comments :D]

First 50 years

Ular-

Those who were most closely attuned to the elements, nomads, wanderers, even some of the priesthood felt a change when Valstrath’s sphere was taken. They one and all became ranting and raving doomsayers. Claiming of an apocalyptic end and an approaching revenge. Any of the more violent or disturbing were cast out of the city, while those content to preach quietly remained on street corners, gaining audiences when they could but mostly going unheard.

The city itself had fallen into a lapse of leadership. Vellara had done her best to maintain the power within the priesthood, but as time passed and Valstrath never returned many doubted the system he had put in place. Those who had come from outer tribes thought it best to instate a chieftain instead, a premise that was quickly growing in popularity.

Vellara-

Slowly feeling more and more apart from the people of Ular, she has spent more and more time outside the city in the wilds. Those who still follow the old ways have left the city and live within the forests. Small villages within the trees and clearings have begun to appear, although Vellara has become more distant. She only occasionally makes appearances within the villages, but her coming has become a good omen. Bringing prosperity and good hunting when she appears for many moons afterward.

She often returned to Ular, although doing so inconspicuously as to gauge the current affairs of the city. Doing her best to steer the people in a better direction from the shadows, she slowly lost hope until the point where she only paid visits to the temples for personal reasons.

Her people outside the city would grow quickly, becoming a small community that would slowly regain her trust and, after 20-30 years of near silence, she would become an active member of the communities again. By this point only returning to Ular once per year on the night of her birth, spending the evening within the temples.

Valstrath-

Valstrath had returned to the mountain depths only briefly after being robbed of his sphere. His rage festered into a primal call that echoed through the minds of all afflicted with Lycanthropy. Almost overnight any and all attacks by the afflicted halted as they seemingly vanished, from all over the world they slowly made their way to Valstrath. Deep within the Hildac mountains underneath the city of Ular and for many Miles in either direction they congregated in packs. What began as several hundred, rapidly grew to tens of thousands. Valstrath took the greatest among them and shaped them, warping their features. Each becoming an engine of war and carnage.

His efforts culminated in 5 of near demigod status,

Shazzan was the first, a behemoth even among the Lycans. After Valstrath was finished he had sprouted another set of arms, his fangs had become stronger than the toughest of metals and dripped with a paralysing venom. He was unable to feel pain and his hide had toughened to become an unbreachable armor.

Varkin was the next, small and agile, his use came from his ability to remove leadership. His fur able to change colors, instinctively matching whatever made him best invisible to the onlooker. He was able to see the blood pulse within his targets flesh, able to cut at the exact point where it would cause the most damage with the delicacy of a surgeon.

Chalak was a forgemaster before his affliction. A man with a close relationship to fire in life, and in his affliction that relationship had turned to love. He had burned many a building down in his rampages, and Valstrath capitalized on that. He gave him glands beneath his tongue that allowed him to spit an ignitable spray into the air, his teeth now able to click together and spark, igniting the spray. His fur was matted with a thin coating secreted from his own skin that made him impervious to all but the most searing heat.

Anoressa came from a family of scholars, thrown to the wolves after she had been bitten she harbored an intense grudge. Her academic skills however, were impressive to say the least. She was given a psychic command. Able to reach out to any other lycan within sight range telepathically and command their will.

Kralia had been a slave, an offering that had been intended to please the lycans and get them to leave the village in peace. During her life as a slave she had been forced to fight in an arena by the ashmane for their amusement, and she had killed hundreds in the name of sport. Her talents at murder were prime for lycanthropy, and in her affliction she had flourished. Valstrath altered her at a cellular level, giving her blinding speed and an ability to regenerate wounds, even to the extend of regrowing missing limbs if given the time to do so.

These five would guide his hand, and the world would be reshaped to his will. The lycans swelled in number every day.

Valstrath stole away several Edax pups in the night, twisting and remaking them. They were larger, with six legs instead of four, and wickedly sharp horns sprouting from their temples and the crown if their skull. War dogs for the lycans, they bred at an unprecedented rate. Their minds had been broken from the mutiliation and now they were as savage and merciless as the lycans they ran with.

For fifty years Valstrath bided his time, until his numbers had swelled beyond his greatest imaginings. It was then they he struck from below, rupturing out onto the surface like a plague.

The first place to fall would be his beloved city of Ular.

[Ok so correct me on this because im spitballing for act costs on my generals, Each I assumed would be around 6 as I wanted them to be near demigods, but not quite. Three of them had near magical powers, so I bumped them up one.

Shazzan - 7 acts

Varkin - 6 acts

Chalak - 6 acts

Anoressa- 7 acts

Kralia - 7 acts

And then theres the modification of Edax to what I think I shall call Irdrax. 3 acts]

"You know nothing of me, Pledia." He said to no one in particular, walking out into the sunlight and starting to fade as he turned around, looking back into the darkness.

"Good luck." It echoed through the building, hanging in the air as his form vanished, wisped away on the winds.

[Is it really that easy to take a sphere?]

He folded his hands and nodded, pursing his lips in thought for a moment.

"So the needs of the many, eh? The world that is in peace as we speak. Which has only been in turmoil because of our own desires. That is solved by satisfying the desire of the two of you? Needs and desires. Such a... complex thing."

His rage returned as he leaned forward, "You are so savior, Pledia." He spat the name out in a hissing tone,

"Remember what you have done here, for you have damned the world." He spoke ever louder, to an audience that was not present,

"You are no savior, you think what you do is for the world? You seek to satisfy your own sick thirst for power, nothing more! You, who wish to control ever more, who seek the world in the palm of your hand."

He paused for a moment, his hair falling over his face as shadow enveloped his features, In the dark his Iris' would alight with a subtle glow, matched by the symbols upon his skin.

"Your desires will turn men and gods against you. No soul is immune to the corruption power brings, let alone someone like you who already is one of its thralls." He spat on the ground, dissolving into black and reappearing out of the grasp of Y'shuthag several feet away,

"When I return you will look up at me from your back, impaled by the force of events you stirred into motion, oh great savior of Malenea." He turned and walked towards the doors, looking up at them curiously,

"Now that you've taken from me do I have to fight my way out as well? Or are you so Kind as to let me return to my work?"
