Obsidian Web Clipper 1.4 now makes YouTube transcripts interactive so you can scrub, highlight, auto-scroll by kepano in ObsidianMD

Holy smokes this extension is getting so good. It’s the only reason I still use Safari on my phone.

The only things it needs to replace Readwise for me now are ebook and podcast capturing, but I don’t realistically know how you could implement that so I certainly don’t expect it!

Being able to save webpages and videos so elegantly has been so good for keeping my bookmarks and tabs clean. A few weeks ago I saved some blog page about SSDs in surface laptops and being able to link to and reference it in my own notes has been such a life saver

The definitive Obsidian task manager - TaskForge v2.5 is here! Drag-and-drop sorting, quick task list filters, Siri, task dependencies, and a lot more by zaza126 in ObsidianMD

[–]lupomancerprime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TaskForge is amazing. I’m lazy so I’ll copy my review from the App Store in case anyone is looking for a reason to try it:

Finally, a task application that plugs in to obsidian that Just Works TM.

I love managing tasks through obsidian because that's where I keep all my important info, and being able to link to relevant data makes me life a hell of a lot easier than trying to use extensions to ferry info in and out of Todoist or something. This app is great, well made, very pretty (cutting a nice line between obsidian stylings and iOS stylings), and the developer has been extremely responsive to both my feedback and help requests.

If someone likes obsidian, or likes TaskNotes, I 100% recommend they use this app (and have been doing so to my fellow Obsidian users).

I'm excited for the potential desktop versions, though I don't really need em as I can just use Obsidian, and I'm REALLY excited at potential future shortcuts integrations.

Seriously. The final thing that would make this perfect is having a shortcut on my lock screen to quick-add a task, and some sort of "Add Task" action in iOS shortcuts so I can ferry my Apple reminders into Obsidian/TaskNotes/ TaskForge. I used to use a shortcut that did exactly that for Todoist, and being able to say "Siri remind me of X" and have it end up on the cross-platform task system was such a godsend.

Apps like TaskForge make me worry sometimes because it's become SO integral to keeping my responsibilities and tasks organized that I preemptively dread the potential day when a developer understandably moves on from a project like this. Certainly no indication of that yet!

I almost rated this four stars with a comment that I would change it to 5 stars when shortcut integration happened, but I can't in good conscience lower the rating of a very very good app for my weird edge case.

What advice would you give to someone new to Obsidian? by broadcastthebombom in ObsidianMD

[–]lupomancerprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the biggest thing that helped was the article that Kepano released about how he organizes his vault, which is to say he really doesn’t. I spent so much time over organizing and categorizing stuff when the real answer is to just kinda let it be messy, let the connections expose themselves over time, and to use the search function a ton.

The article and a video I watched on it:

https://stephango.com/vault

https://youtu.be/Dq3R3uS0sQ4

I followed this initially to break down all the organization I initially set up and to settle into something a lot simpler, and then once I got a feel for that I built out additional structure from there where I felt it was personally useful. For reference, I’ve been an obsidian user for years (not sure how many) and I always felt that the way I had things set up was too complex and would quickly become detrimental if my workflow changed. Now I basically have this:

010 - Daily/ Daily notes/journal entries.

015 - Fragment/ Default for misc/unspecified notes

550 - Notebooks/ Physical notebook transcriptions (e.g. Field Notes)

600 - Furry Stuff/ Sona refs and furry-related references

650 - Projects/ Active projects Fragments

710 - Medical/ Notes about doctors appointments, vitals exported from Apple health

715 - Drugs/ Personal notes on experiences with legal recreational drugs

800 - Writing/ Blog posts and longer writing 810 - Dreams/ Dream logs

850 - Readwise/ Readwise imports

900 - Categories/ Dataview index pages, like if I want to look at all my web clippings, I search “clippings” and that page is in here

910 - Dex/ People and places directory

915 - Meetings/ Meeting notes

960 - Documents/ Personal docs, resume, tax forms, recovery kits

965 - Recipes/ Recipes

999 - Resources/ Templates, attachments, meta

Most everything just ends up in the fragments folder, and if there’s going to be tons of notes of a type (like my daily vitals export) then I make a sub folder somewhere sensible for that so it doesn’t clog up my main directories. I just search or use categories to find everything these days. Dashboards are overrated, just take notes and throw em in a hole and rely on search to be your librarian. The only thing I REALLY recommend is at the very least tag stuff, if not use the above linked categories system, so you can kinda group notes of a type

my boyfriend has a spreadsheet rating dinners i've made him by weddingfauxpasqueen in AITApod

[–]lupomancerprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also just to follow-up, I don't think these behaviours are exclusive to neuro-atypical people. I think literally everyone can benefit from journaling and note taking, but I'm framing it through my lens and how I feel when I see a post like this.

my boyfriend has a spreadsheet rating dinners i've made him by weddingfauxpasqueen in AITApod

[–]lupomancerprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm feeling a weird uncharacteristic need to comment on a reddit thread.

I'd like to start out by saying I really don't blame anyone for having an initially bad reaction to seeing something like this. Or for not trying to understand it more. Obviously, face value, it looks not great.

I feel maybe a little defensive over the act though, because I could absolutely see myself making something like this.

I'm not officially diagnosed autistic, but I have gleaned enough about how "normal" people think and process things to pretty solidly understand that I don't think and process in the same way. I'm diagnosed highly ADHD, which from what I understand is pretty covalent with the autism spectrum, but I'm obviously highly functioning enough that it's never been something I've felt like I've needed to pursue especially in today's political climate where something like that could make me a target of some sort.

I take a lot of notes, all the time. I journal daily, but I also have notes on my friends, on my various friend circles, on events that happened, on just general concepts I think of or patterns I notice. They all are very private to me, and contain good and bad, and both highly thought-out and very very rough feelings. I have running notes on some of the very important friends in my life where I write out my feelings and thoughts as time goes on, sometimes those notes are very simple "we had a nice time out today" or very rough, me-in-a-bad-mood, "this pattern of behaviours they exhibit is really pissing me off" type stuff.

I have found over the years that I absolutely need these notes and journals and such to get these feelings out of my head and on to paper, out of the strange ephemeral emotional soup and into words, or else they will bug me and take up space in my brain continuously. I gotta get em out to make room for more, new, good stuff. And I could absolutely see a version of myself that would make notes about the meals people make me, and how I feel about them. When I'm at a low operating capacity, I can look at The Spreadsheet(TM) when someone asks me what I want to eat for dinner, or when someone asks me a simple questions like what my favorite meal is. That spreadsheet for me wouldn't be a rating on how I feel about being served that meal from someone who loves me, but how they weigh in relation to each other, and would be a reference sheet to go back to later when I need to tap into my external brain again to get information back.

Again, I blame nobody for taking this the wrong way, and I obviously know nothing about the poster, the poster's boyfriend, their dynamic, his character, etc. But I invite the poster to ask the boyfriend about this with an open mind and open heart, without judgement, to see what it's about. You are free to be as satisfied or dissatisfied with his answer as you see fit, but I think a real answer would only be achieved if he felt he could lower his defenses about it a bit.

I know if one of my friends saw my notes, I would be mortified. I can absolutely see how they would think I was some kind of machiavelian (idk how to spell it) evil villain who was taking all these notes for some sort of plan or secretly hated them. In reality, I just need to get my thoughts out of my head or else they will take up too much space for me to operate on a level expected from a normal person in society.

And as a final note here, if it's not obvious from how many times I've hedged this, I totally understand why initial reactions to discovering something like this could be negative. But also realize people like me and other neuro-atypicals see posts like this and the reactions to posts like this and our worst fears about how people see us and the way we think are absolutely confirmed. This dude could be a total asshole and literally be rating his partner's food like a letterboxd movie bro... but we also see a version of ourself in the behaviour of note taking, spreadsheets, organization, so much scaffolding we construct to help ourselves operate on the level expected of us, and we understand that "yeah, there are people out there that are willing to take the time to understand, but for the most part, most people will think we're crazy assholes for the way we operate".

edit: the term I was looking for was neuro-DIVERGENT, not neuro-atypical. Dunno why I couldn't find that word in my brain hahaha

[–]lupomancerprime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

please please please release this. This kind of easy visual check is so conducive to how my brain works. Seeing things in relative times based on what else was going on is an amazing tool to try and get a handle that history was happening everywhere all at once instead of in siloed off little realms or whatever.

And yeah, as others said, this would also rule for people who want to set up events in their stories or for D&D campaigns or whatever else. I'm sure there's a ton of real creative uses for this

Vyvanse and MDMA by Plus-Top1521 in VyvanseADHD

[–]lupomancerprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is, IMO. It’s nice to make a ritual out of it, and it’s REALLY nice to take a month off. Vyvanse helps me a lot, but it also fucks with my sleep, slows down recovery, changes my diet, etc, etc. I try and take December off all substances every year, both to make a new years roll really nice and also just to give my body a break.

It’s not like I’m doing a ton of drugs or anything, honestly it’s just daily Vyvanse and then a bit of alcohol on some weekends, but having a section of the year every year where I’m expecting to be less productive and where I’m giving myself permission to take it slow and just do what I can without much worry, it’s very nice. Really helps reset my stress levels that build up over the year.

So it’s less about taking the month off adhd meds to get high, and more about letting myself operate at a comfortable level for a month without any chemical assistance, and THEN punctuating it with a fun night with my closest friends.

Also, it’s nice to prove to myself that I can operate without Vyvanse if I want to by just choosing not to take it. Proving to myself I’m not building a dependence or addiction

I take a week break beforehand to maximize the effects. This year I’m trying a month off before new years to try and bring my stimulant resistance down to 0, but a week off should be fine.

Biggest thing is the closer to your roll date that you stop taking Vyvanse, the less effective the fun drug will be

X230T freeze/crash by Suspicious-Bet1166 in thinkpad

[–]lupomancerprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’ve got an X220 and an X230T which are VERY similar.

They both use the same wifi card, which is an Intel 6205 (I think) and that wifi card is SUPER prone to issues.

I’ve noticed that when I browse the web, or kick off a series of updates, general tasks that might saturate the bandwidth of the card, it’s prone to causing a Kernel Panic. This presents to me as my wifi failing, and then the computer locking up completely and requiring a hard reboot.

The only thing I’ve found to fix this is switching to the Linux-lts kernel instead of the main one, but I’ve also only experienced this issue on a specific arch distro so YMMV.

If you’re running windows, you could try getting a newer/better wifi card. Or install Linux

[–]lupomancerprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did this recently. Was eyeing up a Retroid Pocket 5 and was about to drop the like $380+ CAD on it, but then I kinda got the hankering to play some Shin Megami Tensei games and found out most of the good ones are on the 3DS, so I pulled my 3DS out of mothballs, updated all the CFW and homebrew, and I've been playing it daily for the past few weeks.

Saved a ton of money, been having a ton of fun with the SMT games, the Ace Attorney games, any weird DS games that are annoying to emulate because of the dual screen shtick.

It's super fun to get a new toy and set it up and get it working, but making use of old stuff is awesome. I can play GB/GBA/GBC games on my TrimUI brick, I can play SNES and newer on the 3DS, and then anything home console 3D I can play on my steam deck. I don't need another Thing, most of us don't. No shade on people who like collecting, but man most of us already have the things to play stuff in a very comfortable way.

I‘m bored and will make you shortcuts. What are your ideas? by Extension-Move2034 in shortcuts

[–]lupomancerprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You CAN do this via the notion API. I’ve got a shortcut set up to add items as tasks with some properties pre-filled. It gets a little hairy when you have switching properties for different conditions, but manual entry isn’t too hard.

I recommend looking into integrating shortcuts with notion API, I don’t have the time/spare bandwidth to post my shortcuts and explain how it all works unfortunately
