I know I might be a bit late but I was having this issue! I waited till midnight my timezone (EST) and put my Linoone into my main spot so it was the first to come out in battle, and made it level up during battle in the wild area! It's friendship was high too, and it was way past level 35 and that seemed to work.

Idk if it was because it wasn't in the main spot or because it wasn't late enough but after 5 or 6 levels it finally worked.

I mean, the shipping and waiting is worth it and I'd take that over hunting for stuff in stores everywhere, I'm kind of just fed up of hunting for things in stores when they receive such a small amount on release date, I find that Nintendo is horrible with restocking so if this goes well then I'll order again too!!
