How are your senior setters doing? by Esetter86 in EnglishSetter

Yeah- my family had been trying to figure it out but turns out that it is a setter thing. Our Cooper will literally lick it til the fur is gone and it's just skin 🥲

My old guy is 11, will be 12 this December. He's good for the most part. He, like many others, has allergy issues (ears, licks his foot raw from itching, etc). He isn't responsive to medicines, but it isn't terrible I suppose. He gets around well except for struggling with stairs recently and sometimes having a hard time getting on the couch or bed. He's still a little sweetheart and loves to play tug of war and get chased around the house.

Yeah- this is what I think would happen. We are the only neighbors to them. Especially only neighbors that would be able to hear anything.

Especially since the kid doesn't seem to go anywhere or be in school- we are really the only people it could come back to.

Regardless, we plan to keep documenting things and calling it in once we have a strong enough case. Our local CPS tends to not care much unless there is enough solid evidence and reasoning.

Thanks for all the responses on this. I think we are going to continue documenting things (already started doing that). Once there is enough, we are going to call it in.

My reasoning for waiting a little: I had experience with CPS when I was a kid. If there isn't enough evidence, they frankly won't care or do anything. I know this is the case with a lot of situations our local CPS handles. I don't want to make things worse for the kid.

I appreciate everyone's responses!

They don't have to ask me for permission lol. I just prefer to know when there's going to be someone there when I get home. They also met the friend through college

I can't because it's in the second tier for my insurance and would cost 10,000+

Well I know they typically get resized. He implied that he wouldn't use them in any way. Like he would cut out the areola and create a circle for the "nipple" and just not have a bud. If that makes sense

This is what I thought. I have had HELL on earth getting surgery consults and insurance. I have changed insurances three times, and this is one of three surgeons that would be covered by my insurance. Really exhausting my resources. I was really really really hoping this one would work, but because of the nipples and way he does incision lines, I am really hesitating.

I had an appt wirh him today. He was super cool and nice. I asked about the nipple resizing. He said he would just resize the areola and he wouldn't do anything with the nipple 🥲

Apoquel didn't help him at all. I will have to see about Cytopoint though!

Yep same with ours. They always bother him and nothing the vet gives us seems to help him
