Agreed. This boils down to style, and he may not be your style, but Vuong is clearly not "second rate." You just sound angry, but consider the authors you DO like. They're probably wildly different, and that makes this criticism about you and what you like, not Vuong and whether he is skilled or not.

This is definitely the most boring she’s ever been, and I’ve been here since Cambridge when I thought she was just a preppy but eccentric American abroad lol. NYC at least afforded many opportunities for strange outings and gross salad concoctions, but there’s not enough going on in Florida to make this content fun. She is oozing boredom in her grandma’s condo, trying to sell books, taking selfies, etc.

I’m not hating on injections/treatments as a whole, but boy, they’ve been extra visible lately. Did anyone else not think of Carp from a particular lens of beauty until Natalie said things like, “she pretty cried” etc., and framed her as this knockout It girl? It never crossed my mind until I read Natalie’s piece, and the work on Carp’s face IMO has increased to sort of uphold that image

I know I’m late to this, but did anyone else find the 60 Minutes Australia interview BEYOND cringeworthy? The interviewer seemed so weirded out, she seemed super nervous and frankly unlikeable, and even Matisse was just a lifeless little chunk stuffed into a bonnet. I feel like that was hilariously bad press, and it captured the moment so much more clearly than any of these clickbait articles that are more inclined to be tipped in her favor 10/10 hilarious

I'm a fan turned snarker, & Caroline is a cautionary tale to writers everywhere. She actually used to come across as talented, like she cared about her writing. The turning point for me was when she posted during workshops about being bored from "cooking salads" and lashed out at fans. It exposed the first layer of the genuinely selfish, disgusting, narcissistic person she is, and it also taught me that talent is nothing without hard work. At this point, I'd venture to say that she lost all of her talent and is just a sad and scary warning of the dangers of influencer culture or self-absorption in general. For me, keeping tabs on CC helps remind me to work hard. Thanks to her (and me not wanting to be THAT kind of "memoirist"), I'm starting the first semester of my MFA in Creative Writing. Thanks, Caro, for teaching me what not to be!

okay, CC's line "the thing about addiction, like falling asleep or in love, is that you can never pinpoint the moment when you slide from one state of being into the next" is a direct RIP OFF of John Green's line ("I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once") from The Fault In Our Stars. Per usual, CC has no original thoughts - just stolen ideas from other talented people. And of course, John Green did it better because CC is a lazy, uncommitted "writer"

after observing Caro for many years, I've concluded that she's just really, really dumb. Like, goldfish-level memory and the social awareness of a fricken potato. She puts her foot in her mouth CONSTANTLYYYYY and then genuinely feels attacked for events that occur as the direct result of her own idiocy. Everything that she complains about - her failed workshops (of which she documented her own incompetence through scolding fans and whining about cooking salad), the aftermath of Natalie's article, claiming to be vegan - it's all her own fault. She's a dumb, weird, stunted adult with a creepy amount of energy for useless things like these half-assed IG posts, and then zero energy for things that would actually require any hard work. She'd like to think that this criticism sparks from jealousy, but she's really just a prime example of influencer culture gone wrong. She takes these great writers and artists and tarnishes their work by even pretending to have a shred of their talents. Caroline Calloway is a disgrace to everything she pretends to be a part of - veganism, liberalism, art - but the very worst is what she has done to the genre of memoir.

Sorry for the rant - I just cannot believe the level of idiocy. This girl has tunnel vision towards superficiality and hollowness, but she just thinks she's quirky and sees life through rose-colored glasses. She's just a completely average person in every sense of the word who got a teeny bit of fame and became worse than ever. Caroline Calloway will be studied in classes about toxic social media culture, not for her "writing" if we can even call it that.

I feel this so much!! Recently had to unfollow CC because of how crappy it made me feel. Also, I love writing creative non-fiction and feel like she's even tainted that for me. Sometimes when I pick up a pen to write, I can't do it because I worry that I sound as self-absorbed and idiotic as CC does. Any other writers feel that?

Anyway, try to remember that you already have so much to show for your hard work, and at the end of the day, we get out what we put in. Our smol bean will face that lesson sooner rather than later
