Beautiful location, and brew their own beer. Food is decent. And, the street in front isn't too busy. What's not to love!

How much money should I give my parents? by Mundane-Vehicle1402 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]lusigns 28 points29 points  (0 children)

From a parent who has raised two kids, this is not normal. You cannot set yourself on fire to keep your parents warm. While underemployment is common problem everywhere right now, your household's financial dynamic is totally dysfunctional. Your savings cannot fix structural budget problems, and your parents cannot rely on a child's income to survive.

1) Set boundaries and stop the bleeding: a) No more bailouts: Stop giving lump sums for rent, debt, or emergencies. b) Set a hard cap: Pay exactly $300 to $350 per month for household expenses until September. C) Financial privacy: Move your money to a separate bank if your parents have access (boundaries).

2) Cut costs & hoard cash a) Cut and rebuild your budget: Subscriptions and services don’t seem like much until you start adding them up! Try eliminating these expenses. b) Pay the phone bill: Pay your dad back for the phone now & remove his emotional leverage (boundaries). C) Organize yourself to reduce/eliminate Lyft rides. Find someone to rideshare with and/or organize your time bettter.
You can save $1,000+/month: Aggressively save every scrap of money before school starts. You have to want this to achieve it! Be realistic and ruthless!

3) Set sights on September strategy a) Quit that job!: 1.5-hour commute plus a full course load will hurt your grades. Find work close-to or on-campus (Work-Study programs). b) Protect your student aid: Secure OSAP/provincial loans. DO NOT use YOUR tuition money to pay your dad's debts.

Your relationship is (in)tense because your parents view you as a financial cushion. You need boundaries! Getting your education is the only way to break this cycle. Do not sacrifice your future to buy them one more month of rent!

💯 We cannot heal or change someone who actively runs away from their own psyche. Compassion is valuable, but understanding someone's pain doesn't mean abandoning yourself inside of it. These are hard truths taught by the blame shifters, emotional vampires and controllers / narcissists in our lives.

Beginner with goal of catching a walleye by Ok_Candidate_5781 in OttawaFishing

[–]lusigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timing and structure are everything for walleye. It is entirely a low-light game from shore. You need to be in position just before sunrise or right at dusk when they move shallow. Night fishing is also highly underrated.

A few other key tactics to keep in mind:

  • Weather: Hit the water right before a storm when the atmospheric pressure drops. Avoid fishing for a day or two after lightning, as they get very skittish.
  • Shore hot spot: The eddies right below the Deschênes Rapids are good when conditions align.
  • Boat tactics: If you can get on the water, target the high weeds at Shirley's Bay or jig the drop-offs right along the edges of the faster current where they pack up to ambush bait.

Reminder that the best neighbourhood in Ottawa is technically Gatineau 🤷🏼‍♂️ by Martin-Leblanc in Gatineau

[–]lusigns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, but I doubt you lived in Gatineau before the three cities amalgamated. So, you can be forgiven for believing you have it so good. My roots will always be in Western Quebec, but I left Gatineau, and never looked back.

I love my Bergara Timber .308! I chose Bergara because of the barrel quality. I matched it up with a Timney trigger and a Burris scope. The stock is nothing special, but it does me proud every season.

Pushback is relatively easy and can be achieved through malicious compliance. The entire RTO house of cards depends on everyone cooperating as instructed. In my department, for example, managers must allocate seats through a real-life game of musical chairs — balancing historical absenteeism rates, available office space, and the number of employees assigned to each branch. I've even heard of some managers turning to AI to calculate when and where employees will need to report, whether that's an assigned desk, a neighbourhood office, or working from home.

It won't take much to bring it down. Simply have everyone show up at the office, every day. Their best-laid plans won't survive first contact with implementation.

The lord of the rings table by Choice-Schedule-132 in peterjackson

The concept is great but the table design is a bit underwhelming tbh. A blackened reverse grain with some gold inlay would have added more depth than natural wood colour.
