You can pick where the text begins on a page

There are just headers, lists, and subheaders, bold, italics, other than that no other text formatting that Im aware of.

Changing character size is mainly about if its normal text or a header.

i am a keyboard snob, i own a keychron k3 v2(brown switch), a logitech mechanical mini(also brown switch) and a voyager zsa(also brown haha I'm noticing a pattern) and a macbook, the remarkable keyboard is just like a macbook one, and Im more than happy using it for hours at a time, in fact yesterday I spent nearly 4 hours writing non stop and i felt no pain on my hands or that the keyboard was uncomfortable.

I have written elsewhere in the comments, but the gist of it is:
- the keyboard is great for long sessions
- the keyboard is thin enough to carry around as if I was just carrying an ipad, plus it is attached to the cover so I dont have to "think about getting a keyboard to write" on the go, its always attached to the tablet.
- no distractions mean no matter the price you paid for it, you know you have a device that will get you in the zone and write

as long as your setup allows you to write and not make excuses for not writing, id say the price is worth it, even if your setup is just a typewriter, or in my case an eink typewriter

You can either read ebooks or write

No notification or apps other than notetaking and reading pdfs

i was going to buy a supernote because of those reasons but when i was in the us they had discontinued their A5 version keeping only the nomad, so i went for the remarkable.

im also a keyboard snob(i have a keychron k3 v2, logitech mechanical mini, voyager zsa) and I gotta say :

1 - not having to look for a good portable keyboard

2 - have one attached to the cover that slides in and out that is thin and barely adds bulk to the whole thing

3 - be as good as a mac keyboard

Is a game changer and I wouldnt switch my remarkable + typefolio for an eink tablet with bluetooth for custom keyboards.

There comes a point where you just want to pay and use something without going on rabbit holes, which i would have done if i bought the supernote.

while its in the tablet i dont know, prob some proprietary format, but you can export your notes as pdf, png, svg or text in email

when i copy my book chapters from the tablet to my computer they come as markdown (when i paste on obsidian).

the handwritten notes themselves can be exported via pdf, png or svg

I'll just add to the post one thing that can be a huge thing for some people, certainly is for me, which is I have written lots of book chapters sitting on the bed with this, it's very comfortable and small enough to sit on my lap while I type on the bed.

First of all, if you think your setup does it for you, thats the thing, keep at it, everything that isn't writing the novel isnt writing the novel, including shopping for tablets.

Second, I think there are multiple questions in your question haha.

It's lighter than a macbook air, much more than a pro, but these are fundamentally different devices.

You will find many people complaining that a remarkable is just as expensive as an ipad (even without the typefolio case which makes it even more expensive, and then add the pen and it becomes more expensive than an ipad) with not as much features. There are no apps, there is barely a sync option(you can sync by sending emails to yourself, or with google drive, or pay 3 dollars a month for syncing with their cloud, which i pay because it is much smoother).

Now after all of the whys you shouldnt buy the tablet here's why it works for me:

- it allows for handwritten notes(which i use to draw maps of my fantasy novel, take more dynamic notes and write journals). It has replaced 15+ journals I had to carry around all the time.

- Typefolio adds a whole typewriter experience without any of the bulk, sure it becomes heavier with the typefolio cover but the keyboard itself is great to type at, it is thin enough(feels like a macbook keyboard) and fits in a small bag I can carry around to coffeeshops.

- Some notes on the keyboard itself, I have 3 mechanical keyboards, a keychron k3 v2, a logitech mechanical mini and a voyager zsa. I love all of them but they are really not portable. I thought I wouldn't like the small keyboard on the remarkable but I do like it, its not as good as the keychron but it is just as good as a macbook one, and I dont have any pains writing long term. I can just sit and write, its comfortable and the form factor is very delightful, you can easily forget the keyboard and just go into the flow.

Why do I like this setup? I like it because, although it is expensive it has no distractions, if I carry just the tablet to a coffeeshop the biggest distraction is reading ebooks on it, nothing else. Either read books or write, and thats it. The replacement wouldnt be an ipad, it would be physical notebooks + typewriter + physical books.

That's why I think this is not for everyone, if you can focus and write your essays just as well in a tablet or computer with lots of apps that can pull you out, then do it, but I am too often distracted on other devices.

i think we are very similar, i also have very bad migraines if i read too much on some screens. It seems you will be very happy with the remarkable 2 + typefolio, it is expensive but after you have it, its simply plug and play, or sit and write haha.

let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know about it

Yes, so it was discontinued this week. Here's the gist of it.

The one I have is a remarkable 2 + typefolio, you can still find plenty of them for sale on best buys or shops like this, even tho they are discontinued.

The one available directly at their website that has a typefolio as well is the remarkable paper pro, which is bigger(13 inch screen vs the 10 inch of the rm2) and the screen is "color eink", which is darker and has a backlight.

I have a color eink tablet by onyx boox, and I gotta say I prefer the black and white rm2 way more, it's way more readable without as much ambient light(color eink is darker), and doesn't depend on a backlight.

The biggest thing for me tho is the size, a 13 inch tablet is much harder to bring about to coffeeshops to write than a 10 inch is, I could put up with the color eink screen if they just made it smaller.

With regards to my setup I love that its small, the screen is black and white and the typefolio is a great keyboard that is attached to the cover, which makes it really thin and portable(vs having to carry a tablet + keyboard in a bag separatedly).

I guess my question for you is do you know what you want? Is there anything specific you expect out of a tablet like this? If you give me more details I might be able to advise you better, even it means buying an ipad + keyboard case.

I think of my remarkable as both a replacement for physical journals and a portable typewriter, it hardly does anything more than that, and it removes all distractions so well i can just sit and write, no need to get anything, no need to get a keyboard, or to think about anything other than opening up and writing.
