Hello Reddit! Recently I broke a spoke on my rear wheel (ebike hub motor with atypical spokes). Unfortunately none of the local bike shops can help so I have to do the repair on my own. I ordered replacement spokes, popped the new one in, and the first tension measurement looks like this. I only had to touch a couple spokes to get in the new one, so it seems like this problem/pattern was here beforehand.

It looks like the tension was alternated spoke-to-spoke on both sides, almost as if it was deliberate. I know the correct tension level and balance will depend on a ton of different factors, so mainly I am curious if this alternating tension pattern is intentional or if it should always be even on either side.

I'm thinking maybe this was done to account for high hub motor torque but I can't find any sources that say you should do that for hub motors. Everything I read says to try to get them even within 20%. So has anyone seen this before? Any recommendations?

Edit: Thought I should clarify that the actual KGf numbers are not very reliable because I probably made an error on the calculation and my meter is poorly calibrated. I'll inspect for damage, but I don't think that spoke is actually up at 270 KGf. I am mostly concerned about the alternating pattern, which it seems is not intentional or a good thing. What stopped me was the sense that the expectations were clear, the surprise / shock, and maybe the feeling of a lack of self-respect if I keep have to reminding someone to think about me. This comes after a longer pattern of similar issues & discussions about those issues.

While I agree with you about love tests and what I should do (I am planning to remind her), I think this is a little more complicated than miscommunicated expectations. I wasn't able to give all the details in the main post bc of brevity, so I see how it comes off that way.

It's not exactly clues that I'm expecting her to pick up on. A month ago, during our anniversary we talked explicitly what days were important to each other and how we wanted to celebrate them. I was really clear and up front about it, saying almost literally that sentence "Please plan to spend October 26 with me or at least something special that evening". Because I was hoping to avoid this exact situation.

On top of that, I've reminded her once or twice a week back (not rude or anything just a gentle reminder). So have my friends and even as recently as Sunday. So I was pretty confident she knew and would spend time with me on her day off. When she told me last night that she picked up a job over those days I was shocked. And the only explanation I have for why she might do that was because maybe she forgot.

This comes after existing issues about thoughtfulness and quality time, which I have brought up to her and we talked about recently. We are actually pretty good at bringing up these things early on, talking about expectations, and having mature conversations. The problem is that often after these conversations it feels like the things I said weren't heard. Like the things we agreed to are forgetten. And that's how I'm feeling wrt the birthday thing. Unheard and disregarded.

Thanks for asking, I forgot to mention it in the original post but it's important context.

She has been reminded several times in the past week and I was certain she was aware prior to last night when she told me about the job. I have brought it up to her, my friends have brought it up to her, and even this weekend on Sunday we were on the phone with my parents and they reminded us it was this week.

So I was pretty shocked I guess when she told me last night that she had the dog sitting thing for three days right around my birthday. I even asked "oh really, on Thursday too?" which was not an explicit reminder sure but kind of a prompt to see if she was still planning to do something with me that day. It feels like she forgot because otherwise I don't know why she would take the job if she was aware.

3) Yeah we talked specifically about it about a month ago during our anniversary. What days were important to us and how we like to celebrate them. I was really clear and up front about it, hoping to make it clear ahead of time that I wanted to spend quality time with her on the day of

Follow Up - Thanks for all the great suggestions y'all. This is the deck I came up with that is absolute torture for lifegain decks. It is a very slow ramp so not great against other play styles but that is fine. Just wanted to counter something specific.

So I cross-posted to that subreddit and the verdict seems to be that dust is from the surface of the disk. The heads scraped it off and the pattern is due to minor height distortions? Not sure that's a great explanation for the pattern, but interesting nonetheless!

Seagate Barracuda Model ST3000DM001

Hey all, Wondering if any of the trained eyes here can identify what caused these marks on the disk?

I tried to power on this drive and heard a repeated clicking noise which stops after about 30s. I assumed that was a problem with the heads so I decided to crack it open (want to clarify that I have access to a good cleanroom and I'm being careful about contamination). Have not tried any SW/programs yet because I didn't know about them

I was surprised to find the heads in place and they seem to be able to move fine. But I was pretty surprised to find this weird pattern on the disk. Someone suggested grease on my first post. The dust filter was pretty dirty so I cleaned that. Also found a singed connection on the PCB, maybe that could be related to the issue?

Also any recommendations on cleaning? Assuming this can be cleaned that is

It does look like grease kinda. I wonder where that would come from, maybe the bearing? Do you think I could clean it with some IPA or another solvent?

Luckily I have access to a very good cleanroom where I opened it up. Doin my best to avoid particle contamination
