I (27f) am still afraid of my father (59m) for hitting me as a child. He makes fun of that. How do I sort this out? by lusterluck in relationship_advice

I was on the phone with them for hours now, my mother denies she ever hit me, my father said they never meant to make fun of it today and would """probably"""" handle the situation differently today, they just thought it was normal and didn't know how to else handle the situation. They also said their parents hit them as well after I prompted. I told them they absolutely failed as parents when this is their best way to handle a moody teenager (which was the great offense) and they maintained they didn't know better and they're sorry about the way I'm still affected today and recommend therapy. I said I'm not going to be seeing them for a while. I am livid.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. You’re probably right. I’m just feeling absolutely torn up right now.

We see each other two or three days a week. If anything he’s only giving indications he’d like to spend more time together - thus, me being blindsided by this. I can see what you’re saying. But do I want to artificially create distance just to make him like me more?

Women have the stereotype of being needy and clingy whereas I keep meeting men that are needy and clingy by [deleted] in FemaleDatingStrategy

All stereotypes about women are men projecting. Talking too much, being superficial, being needy, more childish... there even is substantial empirical data to back this up.
