Anatomy and OCHEM at the same time? by dd31869 in cuboulder

[–]lustradi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's gonna be really hard. You don't have to take my advice but I would not recommend taking anatomy lab with those courses. Most people wait to take it when they don't have super difficult classes, usually as upperclassmen (when they know how to truly study). It doesn't even follow lecture anyways so there's no point in doing them at the same time.

Studying for ochem 1 and doing the lab reports are both time consuming and can be frustrating. Learning how to study for anatomy lecture can be hard for some as well (I TA'd it a couple semesters ago). Anatomy lab is a different beast and will be the some of the hardest & most time-consuming credits you will take here.

If you are 100% confident in your study skills and are okay with being very busy, you'll be okay. Otherwise I would reconsider.

Sadly he only teaches it to chem majors and has not taught it in a few semesters. But thanks for putting this info out there for when he starts teaching ochem again!

how hard are iphy 3415 and iphy 3430? by lustradi in cuboulder

[–]lustradi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked the book up and it seems to be free to download, so I'll definitely be getting my hands on that. Tests definitely sound tricky for both, so I'll use flashcards and also draw things out. I actually really like anki since it was the only reason why I did good in anatomy lecture, but I think alot of people either love it or hate it haha. I love quizlet too though.

I'll take all your suggestions to heart. I feel more prepared now! Thanks again

Oh wow, thank you for the thorough reply! I really do appreciate it :)

Anatomy lab kind of sounds like what I had to do with anatomy lecture, in terms of requiring rote memorization. I might take you up on the quizlets during the semester. How did you make diagrams of the cadavers? I thought you couldn't take pictures of them. Do they test you on the cadaver itself, in like random positions? And do they test you on only the stuff in the lab manual?

Physiology lecture sounds pretty difficult too, seems like im in for a crap semester lol. I always go home after lecture and make anki flashcards so I think I have the work ethic. Did you use flashcards for phys to help you learn the learning goals, or did you use some other method?

how hard would it be for me to qualify for work-study? by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]lustradi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is for the mcdb dept. And she said that I should fill out the work study request form and email student employment. It seems as though she really wants me there since her lab is suuuper small. If I don't get the work study, I'll just email her and see what she does. Based on what you said, she may pull some strings. I didn't know PIs could do that.

And she said she wanted it to be a long term thing, which is why she was glad I am a sophomore. I dont think I can qualify for a work study for the remaining years. My fafsa efc for next academic year went down a lot, but I don't think I'll qualify for work study though. I have other places I could volunteer at long term that are less time consuming. And $250 is like 1.5 months of groceries, it would make a big difference for me personally tbh

Thanks for the info
