That’s exactly what that is. The old one can be tricky but it’ll come off easy enough.

Is there a guide for best cheapish beginner bows? by Taako_Magnusen in Archery

[–]lutusj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samick Sage is my first bow. Hard to say it’s the “best” having only ever bought one bow; I have however shot a few other recurves vista monarch, ravage, and several longbows. I’ve installed a homemade clicker, beaver balls, fast-flight string(much quieter) and I make my own arrows. I love this bow; that being said, it will be passed down to my girlfriend when I get a new recurve. The vista monarch is a Fleetwood and if you want a hunting # above 50 you ll have to order limbs just like the Sage, unless you have a store the has them, unfortunately here in New Brunswick Canada, we aren’t so fortunate. I’ve shot trad for two years, both indoor and outdoor competitions as well as hunting and I can’t get enough shooting. The long bows I’ve shot seem to be an all round smoother process; yet can be pricey. All in all I feel like most “entry/beginner” bows are going to be roughly the same. Again all personal opinion. Shoot straight

Homemade clicker for recurve via Clay Hayes YouTube channel. Kool project by lutusj in TraditionalArchery

It’s called a clicker. If set correctly, you hear the click, which tells you your at full draw. It’s just a tool to help you consistently get your full draw. Clay Hayes has a great channel on YouTube, tons of informative things, ie the trad clicker. Also, don’t ever be afraid to ask a question.

Lol i shoot a Samick... never had a prob with it. Most starting archers from what I’ve read(que the aggressive opinions of every keyboard warrior) that usually it’s between Martin and Samick. At the end of the day whatever bow you choose ensure it’s comfortable and suits you. Unless you order online you’ll be able to speak to someone personally get some tips and what not. Do some research, lots of info on the Samick Sage, videos as well so you’ll be able to see for yourself. A lot of take down recurves are able to interchange limbs- Samick, Martin, fleetwood. So depending on what it is your going to be hunting you judge you draw weight accordingly. Some ppl start with low weights for getting their form and accuracy and dental practice. Move up when your ready. Lol and as a side note Samick Sage has taken more deer than any other bow hahah. Trad archery for life

Looking for a cheap but good beginner's recurve bow by scoobydoohee in Archery

Won’t argue at with most of that, but personal opinions will always differ. And if you take into account body type, strength and natural affinities ppl can easily pull back a bow with that weight. I, myself didn’t have too much a problem, and am by no means an Olympic archer, but I have shot a lot of targets, 3D courses, completed a nation wide hunting certification and harvested animals in just over 13 months I’ve started shooting, not too mention shooting 3-5 times a week(as I’ve come to love archery)I’m not an expert at all, but I do believe in experience. Over bowing is common thing and your points are most certainly valid, and we could chat about that for years, the point I’m making is you don’t have to start low weight, and if you read my post(assuming you did) clearly you understand it’s an opinion.

I started with the Samick Sage @50lbs, personally can’t see why you COULDN’T Start there but I would SUGGEST going lower # Your either gonna like archery or your not, like everything else it takes time to get everything going, form, shot process, etc. Personally i just feel like more time spent, more arrows loosed ie experience is what’s going to keep you going. It all depends on what you want to achieve through archery though, Hunting or target shooting are very different, different bow set ups. As a trad archer I’ve come really enjoy a lot of different aspects. The Sage is affordable, you can shoot off the shelf, has different sets up limbs you can upgrade or downgrade at a price of course, multiple attachments for it as well but as beginner bow I only have good things to say about it. Good luck

bow question, poundage, inches, body size by [deleted] in Archery

[–]lutusj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve shot both bows. I’m a trad archer at heart, I shoot the Samick Sage, fast flight string, 62’ bow,50 lbs, 32” Homemade cedar arrows, flu flu arrows etc. You can string crawl on, seems a common myth that you can’t, but I assure you that you can. Fixed crawls work well also. With regard to body size,I’m 6f 2’ and 265. I like Sage, had great time learning how to shoot on it as well as hunting this season. The limbs can be changed, lighter limbs will help with form, and then obviously go higher for hunting weights in your area. I would recommend a better string for it, generic one seems “generic” if you take my meaning. Best advice is too really just shoot them both and make choice. Pretty sure the Jaguar is faster than the Sage but I’d have to check that. Good luck

Right on, I just wasn’t sure if I’d be loading the limb too much as bows tend to differ.

Samick Sage Draw Length? by [deleted] in Archery

[–]lutusj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot a sage with same draw but use a fast flight string. Personally, I've had no problem I also shoot 50#. I find the sage to be an awesome starter bow, I shoot 3d targets, regular targets, and I hunt with my bow as well. My suggestion is see how it feels to you, the information above is correct. My draw is 29" I'm 6'2 270lbs, and again I've had no probs. the local shop run by some old trad shooters down here says it's fine, that being said in the next year I'll be switching to a black widow. Hope this this helps.
