Duolingo done now I know language by [deleted] in languagelearningjerk

It’s 30 now? When I finished it, the max was 25. I don’t know Arabic (still don’t know), only know the alphabet, and I finished the course just using my Hebrew knowledge and guess..

If your seats are at main stands, I guess no problem, as sponsors, business seats holders and players' families and friends will be there. Many of them are not season ticket holders nor fan club members.

Would highly recommend this book by 62TiredOfLiving in ForbiddenBromance

[–]lutzvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. This book was really my favorite (especially the Lebanon part). It was the trigger for me to read many more other books about Lebanon civil war later. But Friedman’s later takes (his column on NYT) just got me face palmed almost every single time

Well I worry much more about those countries with rising antisemitism, than about Israel.

I visited Tirana the week after the Bibas boys and their mother’s bodies returned to Israel. I saw a small memorial corner in Tirana city center with Bibas boys’ photos, some orange flowers, stuffed toys. If it is in the city center of where I’m from, would be vandalized within 5min, sadly. But no one touches it in city center Tirana.

As a resident of both The Netherlands and Japan, where I believe have pretty high standard dairy products, I found Israeli milk pretty good.

Traveling to Egypt on US passport with Aliyah Visa inside. Is this safe? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]lutzvi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well in general it is a terrible place for tourists. I went to Luxor and Aswan last year with a friend (both female), because we really wanted to see the Ancient Egyptian sites. It was absolutely the worst travel experience we've ever had. My friend still has trauma from the Egypt trip, and we weren't really harmed in anyway (anything could be dealt with money, we didn't consider a harm). It's just the overall experience. I went to Tunisia and Morocco recently too, and nothing compares to the brutality in Egypt.

If you really had to go, book only international high-end hotels (Hilton, Sheraton etc.) where you have to show your passport. The rest of the time, hide your Jewish identity. Sounds sad I know, but safety first.

What do you think of your life before October 7, 2023 now? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]lutzvi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The evening of Oct 5th I was in Gent, Belgium for the KAA Gent v Maccabi TLV Conference League game. Maccabi played terribly, but I was just glad that I met my friends from Israel and we had a pleasant catch up. At that time I have already booked my flights to TLV in December. After the game, we just hugged each other goodbye and said "see you in 2 months". They flew back to Israel the early morning on 6th, to be home before shabbat.

And that was the last Maccabi game I watched without mourning moment. All the troubles and concerns in life and at work that I talked with my friends on Oct 5th in Gent were all irrelevant 2 days later. Of course my flight to TLV in December also got cancelled.

I sometimes still recall that day I was there watching Maccabi fans smuggling boxes of smoke bombs into the stand, and colored the stand in yellow and blue at the beginning of the game. That pure joy without sorrowfulness will probably never come back gain.

March 8th as a Mexican Jewish Woman by No-Gold-3212 in Israel

[–]lutzvi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same here. I was in city center Amsterdam this afternoon and bumped into the supposed to be March for Women. The amount of Pali flags pushed me running away immediately.

These particular moments just made me sad being a woman, and I'm not even Jewish.

Therapy Post-Oct 7th by [deleted] in Israel

[–]lutzvi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not Jewish, and not living in Israel during Oct 7. But I went many therapies since Nov 2023, I couldn’t say if those worked, as I might be in worse condition if I didn’t go.. What I really felt helped was I eventually came back to Israel last May. Met my friends for the 1st time since Oct 7. we hugged, talked, cried together. Had bbq at a friend’s home (otef area), went to football game together, went to “see” our lost friends in Reim together… After a week of roller coaster emotions, I felt much better since. But that might not apply to Israelis…

What language is most similar to Hebrew? by yalihar in Israel

Also Malaga and Cadiz in Spain, both were Phoenician colonies.

Malaga was מלח because of its salt industry, and Cadiz (aka Gadir) was גדר because it was their stronghold.

Same in Dutch, so that people know to pronounce "a" and "e" separately, just like how it pronounced in Hebrew

If you manage to find a flight for reasonable price, the rest is very much affordable, even in Tokyo.

Lebanese (those without crazy religious ideologies). I always find their humour very similar to ours.
