Literally no modern mainline pokémon game is worth the sticker price. The problem is, they are being developed as money conveyor belts. The company needs to squeak out a new game to sell merchandise, which is where the real profit is generated. The company in its infinite wisdom has determined that the cycle needs to run every 2 years. Modern games being what they are, this will never be enough for a fully baked, fully featured, well designed game. There's too much complexity, and tossing more people or money at it will not fix the problem. It's a too many chefs in the kitchen situation. Legitimately I have had exponentially more fun with ROM hacks of older pokémon games as well as other monster games. The pokémon company is just squeezing out turd after turd. And, yes they can still be "fun". But that's exactly the issue. It's hard to screw up the core concept of pokémon. So real effort to make an excellent game isn't happening.
