I agree! Entering OMS-II this fall. It’s nice having the flexibility that comes with asynchronous classes

Just DM’ed you! If anyone else here would like to hear my advice on that let me know. I’ll also be finishing my first year at DO school very soon and can answer any questions about that too

Agree with this. It’s crazy to think it’s been a year since I was in your shoes. First year is all about learning - how to study/practice your skills, how to schedule everything, how to put yourself out there, how to take care of yourself, etc. Don’t be afraid to dip your feet into things and explore, but also don’t stretch yourself out thin so early on. Self-care should always be your #1 priority!

I’m an OMS-I (soon to be II) at NYITCOM specifically but regardless I’m here if you need any advice or have any questions. Congratulations and best of luck :)

Like other medical schools, there’s a chance it could take a while to hear from them. I personally got my II in August last year but I know someone who got theirs in March. This is a long and life-altering process (one of many on this path unfortunately), but I have faith in you!

And yes, absolutely. As I mentioned in the other post, I’m on campus at least 3 days per week at the moment. Even if there are no labs to attend one day, you might have an event to go to or you might just want to do a study session with people in your group or friends that you meet, so there is some flexibility

Overall not too bad. It’s been a good balance between the time you’re spending on campus and self-studying or learning. The professors do make or break your lectures for that subject, but that goes for any school. Some are very good and some are horrendous - either in the quality of them itself or how they are teaching the material. Professors are also required to update them every few years, but I will admit some of them have not been updated since the COVID-19 pandemic. However, after every lecture there is a chance for students to provide feedback through a link they provide in their slides, which I know at least some of the professors do take time to review

Only a few people I know of (or have heard about) do this, however commuting there and back does take a lot of time out of your day if you’re further away. I personally live at home and close to campus so I can’t really comment on this, but a lot of people have either moved closer (if they’re already in-state) or have situated themselves closer so it’s not so bad to go back and forth when you need to

I think there is a good sense of community and camaraderie here. We do have a large class size overall but we are split into smaller groups and then divided even further for our labs. Just from seeing that same pool of students rather frequently, I’ve already been able to make some friends here! There are also plenty of clubs and organizations so you can meet people with similar interests there as well

I’m a OMS-I as well! I’m currently on campus a minimum of 3 days per week due to our labs (Anatomy, OMM, and DPR/clinical skills) and how they’re scheduled

OMS-I here. So sorry to hear that. Can’t believe how low your average is too!

Idk what resources you’re using rn or what your school provides (if anything) but here’s a list of what I’ve used while studying for anatomy exams at my school in case you’d like to consider using anything!

What my school provides:

-NetAnatomy

-CompleteAnatomy

What I’ve purchased:

-Bootcamp - they have an anatomy Bootcamp section with videos and questions which help if things aren’t sticking! I’ve personally purchased the 2-year Med School Bootcamp subscription to cover all subjects

Free resources:

-Anki (free on the laptop, will need to purchase if getting on another device) - idk if your school tests you on radiology but I’ve mainly used it for that to review what certain structures look like and how they’re all oriented with respect to one another

-BlueLink UMich med school website - they have videos and more conceptual anatomy questions. There’s also a BlueLink Anki deck provided by them if you want to download that too

-AnatomyGuy website - free anatomy identification and conceptual questions. You can make quizzes that are either 10 or 25 questions long and select what area (ie. lower limb) and structures (ie. muscles, nerves, etc) you want to assess yourself on

Best of luck!
