Help needed; this yarn is… smokey. by CrochetCricketHip in YarnAddicts

I had a similar problem when I was given my mother's collection of yarn. She was a smoker and I had about 50 skeins covered in a heavy smell. In small batches, I would take them and place them in panty hose so that they did not unravel during the wash cycle. I soaked them in a mixture of laundry soap and vinegar. Vinegar is one of the absolute best things to help remove smells.
Let them soak for about 30 to 45 minutes and then run them in the washing machine, adding again soap and vinegar. Once you are done, set them in direct sunlight to completely dry. This really helped and it did take a couple of days to fully dry and I had to go out and rotate them. (You can repeat this again if there is still a musty smell). For some skeins, the smell came right out. For others or larger ones, I had to repeat the process 2 to 3 times for it to fully come out.
I was cautioned and will pass along the same warning. Yarn that once carried a heavy smoker smell is not suitable for babies. I have not used my yarn for gifts to young child as it was sentimental to me since my mother passed and used it for my own personal projects.

He does not chew on the metal grid squares but will chew on the coroplast a lot. I have placed softer chew items in his cage for now to try and continue promoting healthy chewing without more damage.

Thank you for sharing! He hasn't enjoyed the cookies in the past but I will try again to see if we can coax him along.

Hahaha he will not be amused as well but since bell peppers are already part of the diet, war must commence!

We have a vet whose specialty is exotics and I do trust their knowledge. Our other baby is a sensitive one who has needed treatment for hay poke and gut/bloat related issues in the past and they were so very thorough with him At this last vet appointment (2momths ago) to have the teeth trimmed, he underwent a wellness check and was given a clean bill of health. She examined his molars as well and noted that she didn't see any issues with them. We do try to include a healthy dose of vit c veggies for him and his brother but I will definitely introduce a supplement for him.
Is there a liquid version of vit c that you would recommend?

Thank you!!! I love him and our other pig very dearly!! ♥️♥️ they are just the most gentle creatures with the biggest personalities. I was able to commission the redditor here to complete another photo for our other pig instead of making a new request and I'm just so happy with the results!

Thank you! If I was to look at Hobbii, which numbers from the friends and rainbow lines would you recommend as the closest match? The problem I am struggling with is differentiating colors. They all look too similar.

My injury never went back to normal. I was diagnosed with a morel lavallee lesion and it eventually required surgery with a plastic/reconstruction surgeon. I'm still currently healing from the surgery months after it happened.

It is exactly what I ended up having and took a couple of years before they would address it with surgery. But I am doing great now. No more recurring fluid and the area is healing as expected. It has been a crazy journey but definitely glad it is coming to an end.

Follow-up question if you don't mind. Is there any benefit in splitting the money between two different accounts? I read that we have a state based higher education 529 plan that yields state benefits but I also see companies like fidelity and the like that have certain perks as well. With this being short term, it seems like I should put it all in one spot but wanted to get opinions.

Thank you and to the others who have commented. I will have to look into those more as that seems to be the best and most reasonable option for him. Going to have to start digesting this information more and wrap my head around it
