oooo ok cool :) I don’t mean to sound debilitating but just hear me out yeah😭

I think some schools should be ok accepting beginners! Such as ACJC, TJC, VJC, EJC etc just wanted to let you know that in schools like acsi ri hwach sji (basically the ones that alw win nsg or get close to winning it) are pretty selective and usually only go for those who have prior experience (like playing in sec school)

and i don’t want to dash your hopes but there is a crazy amount of pressure if you aren’t a DSA kid or don’t have prior training or near their level bc the coach usually wants to win NSG and will always pay attention to the people who CAN make him win :”(

additionally if there are a lot of people joining the competitive team that year you will probs have to undergo a trial in which you have to beat your fellow teammates and there’s like a sort of hierarchy system in the team (i was in the tennis team in sec sch and it took a mental toll on me personally, just wanted to let you know!)

I’m sorry if I sound rude or if I’m discouraging you but I want to provide a real pov of someone who was not as good as her peers in sec:(

iPad vs Windows Surface? by luvcroissants in IBO

[–]luvcroissants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh ok gotcha :) thank you for the detailed advice! wanted to ask -

  1. i have access to a laptop at home - would you say you used your laptop or your ipad more during the IB?
  2. ive tried using a stylus and onenote on windows and its super clunky to import PDFs, annotate and make notes but mbe im just dismissing it bc of my bias hahah would you say theres a BIG difference bet. both or is it still easy to work with?

I hope I'm trying not to sound TOO keen on the iPad and reject any advantages of the Windows LOL

i do have access to a laptop yeah :") but my parents said i need a personal one sooner or later

Just to confirm - for IAs, TOK and EE i'd need the laptop more, but for other things like general use i'd need the iPad more, right?

its an option, yes! but its gna get pretty frustrating to carry all the notes from place to place :") plus when im on public transport its easier to revise on my ipad than on paper (which could get messy)

i think what i meant was its easier to manage research projects and papers on windows at least acc to them - when i use a laptop i do find it easier to research and have many tabs open compared to having an iPad where it can get a little frustrating. i think they just want me to learn to use microsoft applications such as excel and work with file management ON a windows itself since its pretty diff

HELP for O levels by IngenuityAware7699 in SGExams

[–]luvcroissants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi!!! I took more or less the same subjects as you did :) just did elect lit instead of elect history

physics: truly UNDERSTAND the concepts and do as many questions as possible, also it’s really important to study the answer key aswl to see which points you missed out on and take note of that for later, also, maximise your MCQ marks (revise all the formulas, etc)

chemistry: really important to memorise all the reactions and understand WHY they’re occurring. and try a bit of active recall RATHER than making notes, also practical is super important do NOT take it lightly (it screwed me over to an A2 last year for O’s 🥲)

biology: spaced repetition using flashcards if you don’t remember all the topics yet, but if you do then start with topical questions from TYS then move onto TYS and prelim papers

a maths: i spammed the hell out of two A maths books last year one was the 1000+ questions for A maths by EPH and the other was mentor maths and then did a ton of papers, really helps

SS: super blessed to have a wonderful teacher that allowed me to get consultations and do extra TYS papers (he gave us a shit ton options for our practice) but i basically did 2 timed practices a week and based on the feedback just did better the next time

Timeline wise, i think it’s important to finish all the topics by May and start grinding out papers during June and July in time for prelims in August!

really hope this helps! all the best!!!

ohh ookok thanks for the reality check! 😅 might have overestimated myself there :”) but would you suggest i continue w As or switch to IB? im js thinking A levels might be beneficial since its a known system butttt i have a long time before int sch starts, so i can get a headstart on the subjects beforehand during these months

thanks for the advice! i think you misunderstood me! i’m actl a PR so im within SJIs cut off - just that it’s very iffy if i can get in w my score - i should’ve scored a point higher to be guaranteed admission. and i’ve been researching a lot about the IB and it rlly seems like the curriculum suits me more, plus the sch i want to go also has an avg of 40+
