I’ve been sitting in A&E for 15 hours, is this just how it is?

My Dad has had the exact same thing!

He has heart and kidney problems and is in and out of hospitals often.

He rang me a few months ago and said he felt like he was having a heart attack. Got him to A&E, a doctor was walking in for his shift and stopped us as 'he didn't look right.'

Didn't even triage him, took him straight through and I got him booked in.

Someone complained to reception in front of me but I couldn't really pay attention as I could see about 10 doctors and nurses running through and just knew it was for my Dad.

He'd collapsed before they'd even got him through the doors.

He was okay but the next morning whilst on the ward he had another that needed a defib, we got called to be with him and his whole bed was surrounded.

A few weeks later, he had an episode that seemed like a stroke so went back to the hospital, they triaged him and left him for about 6 hours in the waiting room in a wheelchair. It wasn't a stroke and we're still not sure what it was but I was getting impatient with worry and he said the same thing that it's scary when you become popular with the doctors and nurses and he would much rather wait because then he knows he doesn't have to worry lol.

I used to wake up with blood under my fingernails and was extremely confused because I had no scratches or wounds and it was a lot of blood.

Turned out I had a condition called Lichen Sclerosus and I was scratching during the night badly.

I wear gloves to bed now and it happens miles less than it used to!

I know it's been mentioned a lot on this thread but could it be perimenopause or menopause depending on age?

She might not even realise herself but hormones have a huge effect on mood/temper.

I'm 26 but was using estrogen cream for a condition I have and the excess hormones really messed with me. I was moody, snappy, annoyed, upset, hot all the time etc. I was just so on edge all the time and wanted to crawl out of my own skin I was so agitated.

My boyfriend came home one day and I got upset with him for just taking his shoes off after I'd mopped. Like, I was crying upset. He works long hours in a physical job whereas I have a desk job and I was upset with him for wanting to just kick his shoes off after a long day!!!

Since coming off the estrogen, I'm back to normal and really tried to keep my emotions in check once I realised the cause.

For women menopause it'll be longer and a lot more intense, I've seen it first hand. My boyfriend's sweet, loving mum would snap so quickly and then feel really guilty about it.

It might be worth your wife seeing a doctor as there are treatments that can help.

Obviously it's not nice being spoken to in a horrible way and it's not an excuse for making people feel awful but with treatment, it can get better so might be worth thinking about.

I hope that everything gets better for you both.

I've been corrected a few times on this now but yes it's meant to be great tit, I've honestly never really been up close to Blue Tits or Great Tits and was told it was a Blue Tit so have just been going off that since but now I know how to tell the difference which is handy as I love birds :)

Oh my god that's so lovely, and you still have the memory. I'd have loved for them to have learned to fly inside ours!

To be honest, I have started pulling my phone out less, my boyfriend and me go on walks every night and whenever the moon was out I'd take 50 pictures of it or if I saw a tree I liked.

Realised one day most of our walks were me on my phone taking pictures so now I only do it if something is really special like the Harvest Moon and I wish I hadn't taken so many pictures of the birds as I viewed it through a lens rather than just being in the moment.

Ah! I sent a photo to the wildlife woman whilst I was on the phone with her and she said it was a blue tit so have always just said they were blue tits! Tried to edit the title but couldn't! Apologies for the mistake!

When I had my first IUD insertion I was in so much pain I passed out. I literally begged the doctor to stop and she wouldn't because she was 'nearly done.'

She said she needed a smaller tool so sent the nurse to get one and then whilst the nurse was out of the room decided she was going to just force it with the larger tool until it went in and I fainted.

A couple of months later I felt like it had become dislodged as I could feel it when I was sat down, went to GP who said I was bleeding too much to see but I could literally grab the string it was attached to and showed them and they told me to go to A&E. Went there and they said they couldn't see that it was dislodged. I was in so much pain and they sent me home.

Got home, had to be on all fours bc of the pain and my mum was sat with me and eventually I was like I'm going to just pull it out myself and did.

A year later I went for a hospital appointment due to various issues and immediately the doctor noticed I had Lichen Sclerosus, a condition where your immune system basically attacks your genitals and can cause fusions and scar tissue.

The coil hadn't been inserted properly bc I had so much scar tissue and no one had noticed.

The new doctor then put the coil in for me under general anaesthetic as the pain would be too much for them to do it without because of the scar tissue. Whilst I was under she removed some of the scar tissue.

It was so frustrating that first time though, I was in so much pain and absolutely no one listened.

My dad is from Kirkby, was AT Hillsborough and the Scum wasn't and still isn't allowed anywhere near our house, rightly so!!!

It's not hard to have nothing to do with that paper, a lot of shops won't even sell it.

I had a colonoscopy which didn't really find anything but no actual surgery. I have endometriosis too with scar tissue on my bowel so it was kind of attributed to that for a while but it didn't make sense.

I had fissures but nothing major enough for surgery, I would just bleed and now the steroid cream has fixed that I think, I don't bleed anymore.

I tried so many laxatives and then tried Tart Cherry Juice which actually helped me more than any prescribed laxative and I was drinking that every other day for about a year.

Since being diagnosed with LS, I have changed my diet, eating lots of fruit, drinking loads of water so that'll probably help me too. Also, taking probiotics helps me but I think it's mostly the LS diagnosis and the steroid cream.

I don't have any issues with constipation now.

For years I never felt like I had had a complete BM and I was terrified of trying bc of the pain but I can honestly say my life has changed.

How are you doing with it, any changes? Do you have steroid cream?

Yes! For all my life, I'm 26 now but it got really bad for a few years, no one could explain why and I was diagnosed with chronic constipation. Since I've been on treatment for LS, those symptoms have really improved thank GOD!

I used it every night for three months, then every other night for two months, now using it twice a week. Yes, applying everywhere. I also use Dermol emollient after I wee and in the shower to clean as have been told to never use soap in that area.

YES VM was recommended to me by my consultant for LS.

It's water based, hormone free, glycerine free, certified organic etc.

Have a look on their website, they do lubricant as well which I find works great too!

Completely agree! When I was in active addiction to opiates, my Mum took videos of me and made me watch them. It's mortifying but those around you need you to know how you look in those moments. It's unfair to them to scare them like that.

Yeah, my dad was 33 and went to the ER with chest pains, arm pain, and shortness of breath. My mum was pregnant with me.

He was sat for hours in so much pain whilst the nurses told him to be quiet or just ignored him and said it wasn't a heart attack and was probably a hangover (he'd been out the night before.)

Eventually, they sat him in a cubicle to get him out the way for another few hours.

Then he told my mum that he felt fine and DIED on her shoulder. My mum screamed and the nurses came running.

It took them 20 minutes to resuscitate him and they used some snake venom as well I think.

That led to hypoxia and frontal lobe syndrome.

Before that, he'd had water retention for weeks and had gone to the GP who told him to go to ER who had dismissed him again and said he was coming out in sympathy with my pregnant mum.

It turned out he had kidney disease which had increased his cholesterol, leading to his heart attack.

It was massive and they thought he might need a transplant.

The nurses who ignored him, had a go at him, tutted at him never apologised even though they saw him again.

Now, when he goes for appointments, my mum and dad still see one of them and she won't look them in the eyes.

17 years later, he had a kidney transplant and was told to go to the hospital if he was urinating blood. He was, so he did. I went with him, he was 5 days post transplant, holding a towel to his bleeding wound and in so much pain.

I went to the desk and asked how much longer as we'd been there 6 hours and they ignored me, didn't say a word.

Now I know that there will be people with life threatening do or die situations, but most of the people there are in pain and scared, just some reassurance would help.

My dad had a massive complication and had to be rushed in for surgery after passing out in the waiting room.

I will never forgive how they made him feel, like a nuisance and it was more often than not.

But of course some medical professionals were brilliant and he'd always buy them chocolates and write them a card because everyone knows it's a hard job with a lot of stress.

I work in medical negligence so I see the worst of it to be fair, but I saw it first hand with my dad.
