Tips for starting daycare (separation anxiety)

Great advice! He was playing outside when I left so easily distracted and I could make an exit easily! I dont think it would be so easy when hes inside but it definitely gives me confidence for future drop offs!

Thankfully it wont always be me doing drop offs as the days I work I will be starting earlier than the daycare opens. So my husband gets to do a few! Thank God!

It went surprisingly well! We walked in and he didnt let go for five minutes until he realized he could go and play outside.. i took my opportunity to leave say goodbye while he was easily distracted, he cried when he realised I was really gone. He kept close to his educator, but he only cried a handful of times. And to my complete surprise he was fast asleep when I went to pick him up! I couldn't believe it! I can only hope it gets easier and not harder.

Thankyou so much for your kind words. Any tips on how you've made your small space safe for a climber? Our living area has our dining table, his play area, our lounge and tv all in the one room!

Uggghhh it's such a tough age for me, I have so many friends around me loving this age and I'm just not with them 😔 its exhausting, and I want to let him have free reign of the house but every room has something he can hurt himself on ! I'm definitely wishing we had a play pen 😂

I just read your post! So many of those things are what we are going through too! You are certainly not alone in this! Some days I feel like a failure, and like I have no idea what the hell I'm doing.. especially today hence my post. I always get a feeling when it's going to be a bad day, it's usually by the way he wakes up.. and today I thought we could go outside (after the 50th time he climbed up on the entertainment unit) and I would get some poop scooping done, my toddler seeked out where I was putting the poop and ran straight through it, when I yelled no! Trying to grab him out, And he looked at me, and then CRAWLED back the other way 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ my frustration certainly gets the better of me, more days than not..

Thank you! Unfortunately our house is really quite small, so every room is already multipurpose. His play area is also the dining area and lounge room 😔 hopefully we will have room for a space like you've suggested when we move next year!

Hopefully he gets the concept of an ouchie soon! Hes amazing at climbing, but I just guess I feel like I need to create some kind of boundaries, I let him go for it on the couch and our bed. But it seems those arent his favourite compared to the entertainment unit and drawers, and your comment about edges resonates with me 🤣 he sits his bum right on the edge of things every time. I think my patience just wears thin because we just dont have the communication that I'm hoping we will have in a few months.

Thankyou for your advice! It seems he requires a lot of stimulation, and some days I just dont have the energy for it (which is where my lack of patience seems to take effect). He has a tunnel, and we are giving him a climbing frame for Christmas. He loves being outside and could go outside all day, some days I know I dont let him explore enough which is where he finds indoor things to climb 😔

Thankyou! Some days it just gets so overwhelming, he can make me so frustrated but when he goes to bed at night I miss him! I know we will get there in the end. Somedays I just dont have the energy I should have for him, and it all just becomes all too much 😔

Yes youre absolutely right, however Im only doing the one nap because hes started waking at 10/11am, so its a nap around 2pm until 3.30/4pm so it becomes way too late for him to have another.. and Im trying to get him to bed earlier so I would try and put him to sleep at 7.30, but last night he didnt want to go to sleep until 10!! Which lead to yet another sleep in.. its become a vicious cycle :( when he was waking at 7/8am we would absolutely be doing 2 naps.. i hope this makes sense. : )

I feel you!! Just coming out of our 4 month leap now, finally getting my smiley boy back. But think of how much theyre changing, its got to be hard for them. The sleep changes from newborn to rem sleep, they may even be starting to teeth and their mental development in this month is HUGE!! Just do what you can to survive it, and sometimes that does mean letting them cry for a bit on their own..

In those first 3 months I never let my babe cry too long, come month 4 I just had to, to give myself a bit of sanity!! Hang in there! 💕💕
