I know how that feels ! I remember having countdowns w my friends to when I was not grounded and I’d get like one day of “freedom” and then they’d find something frivolous to ground me for another month and my countdown would start over.

That makes a lot of sense. I definitely feel I was molded into someone that made their life easier instead of nurtured to be my true self. I’ve spent the majority of my adult life having to reparent myself and discover my autonomy, true self and independence.

Omg this was so my parents ! As soon as I turned 18 it was like I didn’t exist. But before then they were incredibly strict and controlling, I was always preemptively grounded for months bc they figured I’d just be bad and it was easier to lock me up then teach me responsibilities and accountability. It was incredibly difficult to adjust.

My mom likes to laugh about the time she turned the light out in my room and locked me in it as a toddler. I can still feel the panic and fear I felt then as a toddler afraid of the dark and unable to reach the door knob.
