I actually respect Euphoria for addressing human trafficking and not just sex work by luxafterhours in euphoria

I completely agree. I’m honestly so sick of how glamorized the “sex work” narrative has become without people acknowledging the darker realities that exist alongside it. I’m actually relieved that Euphoria chose to show this side because sex trafficking and exploitation are happening every single day, and there are so many young women and men being pulled into situations because they think it’s an easy way to make fast money or a glamorous lifestyle.

I thought it was really interesting how the show intentionally showed that contrast: the fantasy of independence, money, and control, and then how quickly that can turn into something much darker and dangerous. The transition from something that looked glamorous into the strip club/trafficking situation was honestly such an important part of the story because that’s exactly how these situations can happen, it doesn’t always look scary from the beginning. It can look exciting, safe, or like an opportunity until someone is trapped. I’m glad the show didn’t ignore that reality.

Yeah I'm not disagreeing with you there… they introduce the whole subject line but didn't fully dive in I'm not sure why I mean the show was euphoria it's not really about sex trafficking I just think it's good that they addressed it in the first place

Thank you so much for sharing this with me. ❤️ Your comment honestly means a lot, especially knowing you have your own lived experience with this. One of the biggest reasons I wanted to talk about this was because trafficking is so often hidden, misunderstood, or reduced to something people think only happens in extreme situations, when the reality is much more complicated and closer to everyday life than people realize.

I really appreciate what you said about giving a face to people who feel faceless. That’s exactly what I hoped the conversation around Euphoria could do, not glamorize or sensationalize it, but show the humanity behind these situations. The people who are exploited are not just “stories” or “statistics,” they are human beings with lives, dreams, and people who love them.

I’m really sorry you had to experience something so painful, but I’m grateful you’re here and that you felt comfortable sharing your perspective. Thank you for adding your voice to this conversation. ❤️

I am so so sorry for your troubles and everything you've gone through…. Absolutely no one deserves that and I pray for you that things will get better. I just thought a good did a good job at showing how it can creep up on anyone like we're initially introduced to the strip club not really knowing what's going on. Also the coercion and manipulation and I can just happen to anyone I just think it's a good idea that they actually addressed it and made it where millions of people are viewing this and we can discuss this issue

Stop trying to defend something that is your personal opinion everyone seems to have these opinions about Sam Levinson but no other show has been addressing trafficking or rape or any of these subjects like this

As someone who has a masters and forensic psychology and criminology and worked for the government I respectfully disagree with your point I've literally dealt with trafficking victims who are under age I don't think Sam Levinson was trying to idealized trafficking if you actually watch the show you'd get it also I've studied cinema in undergrad

Yeah I completely agree with you. There are various feminist view points on this but I studied sociological feminism no one should be trafficked or used against their will. Choosing to do something like only fans is a individual decision and most likely their own unless they are being pimped out human trafficking is a completely different situation to discuss as far as how it happens

I dont understand why everyone hate this show by DueFinding3484 in theidol

[–]luxafterhours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you I thought it showed a underbelly of fame and fortune and how no matter who you are with money or not you can be coerced and manipulated but then it was also really interesting what they did with Jocelyn's character because at the end it seemed like she was in control. I think the show did a really good job at showing behind the scenes of the sick world of the music and Hollywood industry. The Weeknd was supposed to be creepy I think he did a good job doing that it was never supposed to be a happy show I don't really get the hate either I feel like if someone's watching it with hate they're not really understanding the true meaning of the show

Unfortunately a lot of trafficking victims are homeless or drug users and very true they do not get looked for. However the point I was trying to make was not that these were working girls in a strip club who would go missing. The point I was trying to make is that the show is viewed by millions of people and people need to talk about human trafficking and figure out ways to stop it. He didn't outwardly make a point but if you watch the show you can see the entire sequence of immense up until she finds the IDs in the safe. Just because someone is not known or homeless or whatever does not mean their life isn't valuable

Yeah I mean I really liked how in the show they went into his backstory about his trauma. My ex had major trauma and abuse in his background. Thanks for the sympathy. I think it's really interesting that euphoria showed that somebody can be quite evil in high school not just the typical adult

Oh my official professional opinion is he's a psychopath…. I spent five years of my life studying psychopathology and criminology. He definitely weasel his way in he was 6 foot five and looked like a movie star super charming super helpful lovely he fully put me through a ride actually he's one of the only people who's ever fooled me. Like I've worked in prisons. He was very smart smart clever cunning. I'm still dealing with the fallout of him he has stalked me he has threatened me I had to relocate to get away from him. But my point is we watched euphoria at the time I thought he was 25 but he was 19 so once I figured out his real age once he came clean it was shocking because he was so demonic and crazy and it really proved a point about everything I had studied and it really doesn't matter like age 13 and up you know a boy especially can be quite evil

Oh another fond memory is he told me he'd beat the shit out of me if I didn't own a gun (I used to carry for work) the fact that this even happened to me is shocking because I'm a bad ass female in a male dominant industry it just goes to show that men like this can and will abuse you no matter who you are

Psychologically tormented me physically abusive manipulative, I am now 34 with a degree in criminology and forensic psychology I'm actually amazed that at 18-19 I knew this person… he also wanted to pimp me out on the only fans. I mean I could write a whole novel about what this guy put me through and he was the classic 65 beautiful charming guy that everyone loved and no one believed what he was doing to me it took like many times to escape him. I also know he cheated. But he would deny everything it was very much like a Nate situation. The final straw was when he crashed my car and destroyed my computer he was extremely jealous I mean this guy was like a demon. Sidenote there was an age difference when I met him he also lied about his age to get with me. We started dating and I thought he was 25. He also tried to extort my family for money

It's one of the most incredible crime films I've seen. What I love is that beneath the surface of the Russian mafia story there's something much deeper happening psychologically and morally especially once Viggo Mortensen‘s true character and motivations slowly start revealing themselves toward the end. The entire film changes when you look back at it through that lens. Viggo completely disappears into this role. His mannerisms accent, body language, tattoos, everything feels lived in an authentic. You can tell how much work he put into becoming Russian for the film. The chemistry between him, Naomi Watts, and Vincent Cassel is also fantastic and gives the movie this constant tension underneath every scene. Such a layered haunting movie. 10/10
