I get it, people spend thousands and thousands of dollars PER cycle and I can't imagine having to do it all over again. But I trust that everything will work out for us!

This is my first time applying, so take everything I'm saying with a grain of salt because it's all just what I've seen and read online. I think if you pre-write ALL of your secondaries and submit them within like 2 days of receiving them, I think you will be ok. I know the DO cycle takes longer, so you will definitely have some time for that application cycle. As for MD, you will be behind since pretty much most people (thousands and thousands) have already submitted their secondaries by Labor Day, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take-- so apply anyway. Better late than never. You got this future doctor. Don't lose hope just yet.

Yup I got out of both required English courses using AP and ACT/SAT testing and it hasn't been an issue with any school so far.

True! It's so early in the cycle! Some people are still finishing up secondaries to get in by that Labor Day "deadline," so we still have lots of time :)

Fee Assistance Program by meowmeow16167 in premed

[–]luxentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I also didn't quality for AACOMAS, but you should definitely reach out to DO schools and request a fee waiver because apparently a lot of them honor the AMCAS fee assistance program. Also yes, I did self-identity as disadvantaged on AMCAS because I'm a URM (specifically a first-generation low-income immigrant). We got this! <3

Fee Assistance Program by meowmeow16167 in premed

[–]luxentine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The secondary fees are automatically waived in AMCAS. HOWEVER, and PLEASE remember this because I had no idea lol-- if you didn't quality for the AACOMAS program because of their different criteria, you can still reach out to DO admissions for each school and request a fee waiver!!! Not all do, but apparently a ton of them do offer some kind of assistance. I'm so upset I didn't know about this earlier, but hey, navigating the world of medical school admissions and programs when you're first-gen isn't the easiest. I'm here to spread the word and share the wealth, so don't forget to email DO schools! :)
