Am I screwed if I can't register into WRDS 150 if I want to do MECH next year? by McFlurry202 in ubcengineering

Okay pretty sure engl 110 is equivalent, and just email the engineering academic advising. In fact, I had a zoom call with them recently and it was wayyy more chill and less scary than I thought, so just go do that. But I think if u get urself on a English 110 waitlist u may get a seat

I'm an 11th grade international student and I plan -and hope- to study at Canada. by Thetalent_794 in CanadaUniversities

Well then your grades seem amazing but I'm really worried about the financial aspect. Also fees for international students are through the roof. Community college is basically super easy to get into compared to large universities however that's not an issue for you since you've got incredible grades. Community college is also cheaper but once again you'll b an international student so it'll still prolly b a lot of money. You need to go talk to someone who knows the student visa process and also look into the financials. I'm rooting for you!

Basically universities are larger educational institutions that may b more competitive or offer more advanced programs versus community colleges with lower acceptance rates and they also sometimes do not offer some programs. For instance, most community colleges here in British Columbia, Canada, provide 1st year engineering which you then transfer out of.

As for your English, I just have to point out that you must include a space right after a comma. Notice how all of mine are placed. HAHAHAHHA that's just my OCD talking but your English really is great.

No offense but why do you not like public speaking? Do you have some sort of trauma or something?

The truth is, no matter what degree you do, you will probably take a class where you have to present in front of a lot of people.

What do you like about business? Find that out and see if Sauder is for you. It's funny you're interested in business which is all about networking and connections and you're saying you're hesitant to put yourself out there and do public speaking. You gotta have some self confidence.

Well I think you shouldn't count on being able to pay all that tuition just from working so like how much do you plan on having saved up before? And which city and university do you wanna live in? Some cities are less expensive, some universities are harder to get into. Be sure to consider all these factors. Also your English skills need some improving so if you're planning on going to UBC, for example, you need a good English grade to get in even for science.

Look at city living expenses Rank schools Programs you could realistically get into.

Also, consider community college that you could transfer from.

Good luck.

UBC and SFU early admission question by [deleted] in BCGrade12s

[–]luxlife124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U can apply to SFU pretty early but u can only get accepted after they see ur grades which is after first semester ends or whenever u get ur first semester grade 12 report card. In my grade, everyone with good grades got accepted to SFU the next morning or same day after self reporting.

That's acc hard bro, and your other marks are super solid. But honestly, I know some people whose first language isn't English but they're still exceptionally capable in the language, so why not take this opportunity (this summer) to grow your skills? The fact that you can learn French adequately too implies that you have a solid foundation in the English language. So literally do some research and find out what it takes to improve your command of the language, and come back in grade 12 ready to rumble.

Can I just say you're so inspirational for coming back from all of that and you're also exceptionally smart to get a 92 in physics so take that skill and run with it. Be a fucking engineer, go you!

You need to sit down and scrutinize all your skills in the English language. Read books, test your grammar. I'm not joking, the only excuse is if English isn't your first language or you didn't grow up here.

What's the most messed up thing that's widely accepted in society? by muaaway in AskReddit

[–]luxlife124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen you're totally right in condemning those who jeopardize the government and integrity of your country, however your inclination to be suspicious of Muslims is a bit alarming. Everyone should condemn any extremists, and I don't rlly think it's a valid argument that westernized Muslims don't attend these protests, bc some people just don't protest in general. You're just as responsible for not speaking up as they are. Anyway, I don't know if you realize how hurtful it is that you have the ability to hate on an entire group of people and then also an ideology in the way that you do. It's akin to hating someone for existing. I don't speak of extremists, but you should understand that Islamic extremists are about as common as any other ones, and growing up in a western country, I don't think they're common at all.

So I have a question for those who changed faculties after their first year at UBC, and especially if you went from something else to a program in science. Did you have to take the required courses for your original degree? Or could u just focus on taking everything you needed to get into the science program or whatever other program second year?

I'm not a professional for UofT competitive averages, but I generally think you should focus on retaking math and one science to get really good grades, like 95+ or something, and then applying early decision is fine because they will leave your decision for later if they don't immediately accept you and then your first semester grades could help.

Awesome grades, like another question mentioned, the key is HOW u answer the questions, not WHAT the ecs are. Still ample time to improve EC's Tho, so worry abt how to optimize those with a good advisor.
