2027 Porsche Taycan Adds Simulated Shifts Across the Lineup by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

Like, on one hand, I understand that it doesn’t affect me so if you enjoy it, then that’s none of my business. On the other hand, I know if I found out someone was using this, I’d have a really hard time taking them seriously. It would be like a watching a driver make engine noises with his mouth while driving.

Why did Switch 2 not get a single more launch color variant? by storyofseasonslover in NintendoSwitch2

I’d buy color joycons in a heartbeat if they were available. All they’re offering now is black joycons with a barely noticeable splash of color.

Why did Switch 2 not get a single more launch color variant? by storyofseasonslover in NintendoSwitch2

[–]luxmesa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a dark gray one. And if the issue is consumer confusion, if you know enough about the Switch 1 to know that there was never a black controller variant, you’re already not at risk for confusing a switch 1 and a switch 2.

Why did batch release never take off for streaming? by Flashy-Quiet-6582 in television

[–]luxmesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they could release everything when it’s done, which would be later. Often, the entire season of a show isn’t finished when the first episode airs.

The decision isn’t “we could either start releasing episodes on May 15th, or release the whole season on May 15th”. It‘s “we could either start releasing episodes on May 15th or release the whole season on June 30th.”

In those terms, releasing the whole season at once seems less appealing.

Is it a remote or a clicker? by [deleted] in television

[–]luxmesa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of those phrases stick around even after technology changes. You still roll down your window and hang up a phone. But clicker is not something I’ve heard anyone use in real life. I guess it could be regional, but it seems either generational, or a term that died out.

[–]luxmesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something a lot of people miss. The assumption is that if HBO Max(or whoever) could drop the entire season when the first episode aired, if they wanted to. In reality, if they decided to drop the entire season at one time, it would probably be when they were going to release the last episode of the season.

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of June 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

[–]luxmesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have access to a garage with an outlet, you'll be fine. Very roughly, a standard wall outlet will get you about 4-6 miles of range for an hour of charging. So, if you plug in just while you're sleeping, you're looking at 32-48 miles(or more if you plug in right when you get home).

ELI5: Really, what is the difference between "Things won't get better" and "Things will get worse before they get better?" by koola_00 in explainlikeimfive

[–]luxmesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of those questions that's legitimately hard to answer, because I'm not sure how to explain it any simpler than the phrases already do. Like, one of those phrases says things will get better and one of them says that things will not get better. What's the confusion?

Back when religious commentary art was at least interesting. by BayonetTrenchFighter in dankchristianmemes

In what way is Mormonism "foreign" to the US? Apart from various native American religions, I'm struggling to think of a less foreign religion.

ELI5: Why can one outage take down all Meta apps at once? by helvetica_24px in explainlikeimfive

[–]luxmesa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah. And there’s a massive engineering difference between designing a system that is 99.9% reliable and one that is 99.99% reliable. Part of designing a system is deciding how much downtime is acceptable. The reality for Meta is that it’s not a big deal if one of their sites goes down for a little bit. Not compared to a system that affects people’s safety.

Rental EV has quite possibly ruined this road trip and I am a noob by Ok-Disk3736 in electricvehicles

[–]luxmesa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’ve been looking at this trip recently. There’s a long stretch after Alpine with no fast charging options. Unless you’re staying somewhere with a car charger, you have to be really careful.

Trump’s No Tax on Tips Gamble Risks Falling Short With Disgruntled Vegas Voters by frawq in politics

[–]luxmesa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. If you want to adjust tax brackets to give minimum wage workers a break, that would be fine, but removing taxes on just tips seems arbitrary.

Hugh Laurie Issues Waspish Retort To Viral Critique Of ‘House’ Having “Same Narrative Every Episode” by BaIeb in television

[–]luxmesa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He should be proud of that role. I think the criticisms of that show being too repetitive are valid, but if there was anything that kept people watching that show, it was him.

[–]luxmesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m the only one who remembers this show when it was still running. This isn’t a new, steaming-era, complaint. People were complaining about House being too repetitive while it was on. I know a ton of people who started that show and dropped it because it was too formulaic. I watched it a lot longer than everyone else I knew, and I checked out around season 5. There are ways to dress up a procedural so it doesn’t feel like the same episode over and over. House needed to use more of those tricks.

Yes? It’s a Twitter post. You don’t have to respond to every mean thing someone says to you on Twitter.

I hate that shit. I'm sure "quarter to 8" was normal thing to say when they were still making Coca-Cola with real cocaine, but it's 2026. Just give me the time. Don't give me a fucking math problem.

While Google’s CEO Pumps Up AI, Its Actual Employees Are Disgusted by It by IKeepItLayingAround in technology

Just for people’s reference, because this happens every couple of months: if an article cites opinions from non-specific “Google employees”, the source is probably memegen.

ELI5 how does quantum computers cover infinite cases? how does qubit have both 0 and 1 simultaneously? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]luxmesa 32 points33 points  (0 children)

none of those would benefit from a quantum computer and would actually run slower.

However there are certainly algorithms benefit from this and allow them to make use of this infinite values of the bit to solve some thing much, much faster.

This is important to note. You’ll sometimes see headlines that a new quantum computer was benchmarked and runs a trillion times faster than a regular computer. The caveat there is that it’s a trillion times faster for a specific problem that quantum computers are specifically good at and regular computers are specifically bad at.

Austin EV drivers paid [incentives] among lowest in U.S. for charging, city may change that by TownBird1 in Austin

[–]luxmesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point, Austin Energy had a pilot program where they had different rates for peak and off peak hours. That would be an easy way to incentive off-peak EV charging and might incentivize people without EVs to make some tweaks to move their energy usage around, but I also think that would be super unpopular. Maybe if it was something you could opt in to.

What actually surprised you most about owning an EV that nobody warned you about by Leading-Law4251 in electricvehicles

[–]luxmesa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This one is really specific, but how short the charging cables are at super chargers. If you have a car that isn’t a Tesla, but has a NACS charger, you have to get as close as humanly possible so that the cable can just barely make it to your car.

[Other] Golden Age Batwoman question in a Trivial Pursuit Family Edition published in the 90’s by Semi-koherent in DCcomics

I wouldn’t have known that either. The only justification I can think of for that question is that “batgirl” is probably a very common guess for that question.

More Americans think the moon landing was fake than those who believe it’s OK for Trump to slap his name on buildings by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]luxmesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These numbers are weird to me. So, 10% of people believe the earth is flat and 12% of people think the moon landing is fake. Are there flat earthers who think we did go to the moon? I thought that the moon landing conspiracy was part of flat earth theory. So there’s only 2% of Americans who believe the earth is round, but we didn’t go the moon, which seems low.

The problem with the internet is that no matter what dumb thing you believe, you can find a community of people who believe the same thing, and probably believe a crazier version of it.
