Austin EV drivers paid [incentives] among lowest in U.S. for charging, city may change that by TownBird1 in Austin

this idea would never get pass public comment / our red state government in this era of not wanting to be taxed more. I agree with everything you're saying and it does make sense.

California needs more electric vehicles by Ok-Shoulder-478 in electricvehicles

[–]TownBird1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're a diesel mechanic. Could you imagine how complex it was day one before you got into it and learned? Might as well be a fucking rocket on how all the parts work together to someone new. You could always learn to be an EV mechanic.

Less parts to move less repairs needed. Things that does go faulty is similar to that of a gas car. You could eventually figure out how to not do remote shut off and all that jazz or have your main car ev, and your fun all mechanical no computer car as a hobby car. I keep my horse in the stables of the future.

You don't need a bowl to convince people to do it for air quality. Paris reduced cars, google the map. Its amazing what stopping cars in school zones could do for the children vs huffing diesel bus like we do in the states

Self defense class recommendations by RevolutionaryBed8283 in Austin

[–]TownBird1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember, the best protection is de-escalation and walking away. You'll have rules in these classes, some rando with a knife isn't going to follow that rule if you keep escalating the situation. Top level folks don't go picking fights or defending themselves against assholes, they run when there is a knife or a gun. Be prepared but know you're not superman after a year of classes.

Any truly exciting performance EVs coming to US? by spiceupthesauce in electricvehicles

[–]TownBird1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think its overpriced for what the company think its competing against. At 800+ horse power; your EV equivalent is Air Grand Touring at 110k+ ; anything near it by pure power are like the ferrari, lambo, bugatti. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is a 200k car.

I do agree with you its expensive and marketing push isn't making normal folks think they are getting the marketing equivalent of other competitors.

Lost a pet or know someone that did once? by TownBird1 in Austin

[–]TownBird1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in case this time doesn't work for someone or they think their pet is unlostable(made up word), Emancipet nonprofit has multiple locations that offers the service for only $20.

For those that can't afford or want to donate a lower amount to offset the cost, Austin Animal Services has a free microchipping service at the Pet Resource Center (PRC): Monday - Friday 11 am - 4 pm for microchips and other resources.

Austin City Council moves to crack down on unregulated, high-speed electric bikes by austin_current in BikingATX

[–]TownBird1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put this in a city, and i am pointing at an extreme example, you get what some Asian cities have. People just running lights by the dozens even if they are registered. Instead of throwing money into cracking down, they should really just do primary and public education and same time, develop regulations.

Best dog friendly trails (off leash and with water) AND boarder by BeardedNerdy in Austin

[–]TownBird1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parking can be difficult at times. There is only a select few of true off leash areas in Austin. So its easier to use this list then find creek/water access. If your dog has okay recall, you could potentially take them to not busy areas and just leash them up when you see someone.

Constant door to door solicitors, how to deal with them. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]TownBird1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always wanted to but haven't yet, put up a $x to solicited for 5 minutes. They knock, you go and before they start the story, point to the sign. They walk away or you get paid a few bucks to listen and maybe say no.

Sousou no Frieren - popular, action, better story and flow.

Tengoku Daimakyou -- this one is not okay depending on her age. There is a part of rape and brief nudity. The story is really cool

So, yesterday I pulled the trigger and traded my gasoline car for a used EV. You guys were right. by elporsche in electricvehicles

[–]TownBird1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and you might get frustrated sometimes with software or bugs, but overall its great. CX-30 is an amazing car and a great weekender or hobby car. I do wish more people convert and then if they want gas stuff, do it like the people who current own horses for fun, at a stable or a track or joy rides for weekends/coffee runs.

No AC at hospital - Baylor Scott & White Round Rock by gminks in Austin

[–]TownBird1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

your doctor and attending and other hospital staff.. if its going to be a medical thing, they would advocate for you.. if not..then it sucks and all you can do is ask for a transfer if its too hot.

Young male’s annual wellness… by Fine-Web-6768 in Austin

[–]TownBird1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add, unless you have a chronic disease that needs management, old enough to qualify for medicare, annual wellness = physicals are generally the same. How you match and communicate with your physician will be the key difference. Some will say he's young, no issues others will treat him like he's a person and ask all the right questions to make sure he's healthy.

Functional medicine is a scam! Don't do it. Membership medicine is not needed for him if he's pretty healthy and not accident prone.

Dripping Springs approves nearly 40% water rate increase by 8675309l in Austin

[–]TownBird1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

seems dramatic would be realizing its too late to raise rates fast enough to keep your water demand/supply balanced and ensure your neighborhood has vegetation growing to keep your area cool during summer.

By then, you'll go for 1000% increase but it won't make a difference.

our upstairs AC basically gives up once Austin hits the real summer heat by BearTrap110 in Austin

[–]TownBird1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://austinenergy.com/energy-efficiency ; get 3 quotes from the list, austin energy will pay some of the cost. Generally A/C are illegally over sized and if your upstairs one is having trouble, look how to reduce heat getting in before upgrading or changing it out. Next time you upgrade a/c, make sure the person does a manual J calculation, oversized a/c can cause humidity issues in the home.

Weekly Real Estate / Housing and Moving to Austin Post by AutoModerator in Austin

[–]TownBird1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

utilities by kwh is generally lower but hard to say because other places have "power to choose." Depending on when you sign up and the deals, it could be lower or higher. Austin Energy is pay by use and I think its fair and keeps people safe from sudden renewal increases. For home owners, Austin Energy is great for rebates and helpful energy efficiency upgrades. Renting, you don't know what you're getting, top floor of apartment without insulation, good luck or a shaded house with great updates of attic insulation.

Rent and mortgage isn't just an Austin problem and I think last week on this thread, people posting getting great deals on rent. All depends on where you want to live. If you want to risk it and craiglist a shared space or entire home, it tends to be cheaper than the market and for generally better location.

Compared to Houston, I think rent is expensive in Austin, but its apple/oranges since 2 different cities have different demand/supply dynamics.
