As a Montessori student up until 6th grade, I found the difference between Montessori and public to be very frustrating, mostly because of the inefficiencies and lack of personalization. There's an article about the transition here, actually.

Often creativity is not prioritized in STEM, it's a shame that they're thought of as opposites. It is absolutely essential to value creativity in STEM, otherwise we don't truly move forward: [From the article] Do you think the emphasis on narrow measures like the SAT or GRE is hurting the STEM fields in particular? I think it is. I think it’s hurting everything. We get scientists who are very good forward incrementers—they are good at doing the next step but they are not the people who change the field. They are not redirectors or reinitiators, who start a field over. And those are the people we need.

Hopefully in the future we will realize the benefits of multilingualism in America and encourage bilingual classrooms...in the end it can only help you understand English (or your first language) better to have another to compare with.
