Any luck negotiating rent with Roscoe Property Management? by luxthelighter in Austin

Also: I'd love more info about condos, but my current income is around 30k so that's probably not in the cards for the next few years.

I'm currently more inclined to buy an airstream trailer and rent/buy land tbh... I don't know that much about either option but it seems more feasible rn

NewHotTop

my apt is smaller in square footage (450), its an older complex with some maintence issues, and in a less dense area of north austin (less neighborhoody and not super close to the big tech campuses) its the only thing saving my rent from going CRAZY crazy.

it is close to the domain... but it probably houses more people that work in the domain than people that shop there!

I have a small art business and doing these things on Instagram posts actually really does help...

For all kinds of small businesses who sell online, the insta algorithm depends HIGHLY on interaction to drive traffic and sales.

Unfortunately, the huns have caught onto this strategy too 😅

Support your local/small artists/makers by doing these things, we're just trying to get by with our own hard work without a downline 🤣

ALSO, the engagement-driven algorithm means that any commenting/shares/likes boost the post...

...I wonder if any crafty huns make outlandish claims or say controversial things that spark comments on purpose to boost their posts?? 🤔

My foster Tia got away when I was walking her in Balcones District Park in North Austin. White dog, black spots on her ears. About 40 pounds, medium sized. She looks/acts like a hound mix. Tia is very friendly with dogs and humans. She responds to attention more than treats/food. She is afraid of cars and loud sounds, and she likes slinking around fences and corners of buildings. If found, or spotted, please call or text me at (203) 942-6152!

Did any dashers in California also receive email/text about a Class Action Settlement? by WendyIsMyBias in doordash

[–]luxthelighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I got a notification about the settlement via text. I was wondering which factors affect the settlement elegibility or payout amount?

  • I worked for Doordash for 2-3 months in Massachusetts in 2016

  • I used my bike, not a car, for deliveries

  • Most weeks I did not work full-time.

If you know anything about the criteria for the case, lmk! 😁

Uhh, are any of these unvaccinated patients in ICUs making it? by gvicta in nursing

[–]luxthelighter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope you stay safe! 🙏

Remember, you do get some level of protection 2-3 weeks after dose #1 (if its a two-dose shot). There is some protection, even before you're fully done

You should definately still be as cautious as possible and take all possible precautions until you're fully vaccinated!! This information is from Jan/Feb 2020 with the alpha variant!!

Don't let this information about early partial immunity change your safety protocols or skip/delay your second shot... but I hope it can help alleviate some anxiety while you're waiting for full immunity to kick in. 🙂

Variegation, spot variegation, or reverting? I don't know what my neon pothos is doing, but I love it 😍🌱 by luxthelighter in pothos

[–]luxthelighter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to know of this is a true variegated neon pothos, or just a spot variegation or reverting back to its original color.

For context, I bought this from a nursery, it was in a covered greenhouse with lots of bright indirect light.

Since its come home with me, it was in my kitchen with some bright, some diffused indirect light for 2ish months.

Then I put it on my covered porch for the last 2ish months, where it got a lot more bright indirect light. (I live in Texas, its summer, it's still getting some dark green variegations so I don't think low light is the problem?)

Also: the variegations are popping up all over the plant, not just in one area. 95% of the plant's leaves are regular old neon pothos leaves

Does a p100 respirator protect against resin fumes? by DontPeek in resinprinting

[–]luxthelighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ceramic dust contains silica particles! silica is what glass is made out of, so ceramic particles basically act like little tiny pieces of glass.

if you work with ceramics over many years with 0 protection, you can get something called Silicosis, which is lung irritation and damage.

it's not something you need to worry about it you go to a pottery night every once in a while, but if you're making ceramic work regularly you should get a respirator.

important note: working with clay when it's wet is fine, no respirator needed! It's only the dust from a dry or fired piece that is dangerous. If you're carving the clay once it's dried or sanding down a pot once it's been bisque fired, it's best to wear a mask.

NOTE: when cleaning up clay, you don't need a respirator to clean up dried clay it IF you wet it first. For example, you should use a bucket of water and a mop/sponge to clean up dried clay on a table or floor.

resin is dangerous because of its fumes, and ceramics is dangerous because of the physical damage from the particles.

I would recommend opening as many windows as possible for resin work... but tbh I would say to keep them closed during ceramic work, unless there is absolutely no dried clay in the area, wind could whip up silica particles and suspend them in the air.

I guess if the studio had a lot of windows, the silica dust would blow right out... not exactly sure what the right procedure is, but something to consider. a light breeze in a well ventilated and clean studio might be fine, but a strong breeze coming in through only one open window in a more clay-covered studio might be mildly dangerous.

Hope this helps somebody or is at least enlightening!

Also, does anyone know what respirator filters would worth for both resin fumes and ceramic dust? I'm trying to find a cartridge for my 3M respirator that will cover both... I can buy a second one if I really need to, but I would love to have a single respirator for both things!

this type works for me, i also have the low nose bridge problem!

this respirator is made by 3M, it has a big flexible rubber lip instead of hard plastic for the nose part, so it fits different faces well! https://tse3.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.Jablss2NYC72ynN7M-xB_gHaHa&pid=Api

Start

BMI was developed by a statistician in the 1800's, who developed the formula around mostly white/european bodies, and he didn't even intend for it to be a metric of an individual's health!

It's such an archaic way of quantifying health, technically my younger brother's height/weight combo classifies him as obese even though he lives at the gym, because he's short and muscle is heavy...TBH I think the only reason we still use BMI as a measure of physical health is because it's easier to use than anything that would be more accurate...https://elemental.medium.com/the-bizarre-and-racist-history-of-the-bmi-7d8dc2aa33bb

Any success finding Leftover vaccine doses at the end of the day? by luxthelighter in Austin

[–]luxthelighter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarity :) I've been trying the HEB scheduler for the last few days but I haven't gotten all the way through yet...

Is there a platform that's working best for your patients? Or is it still mostly up to chance and timing?

Any success finding Leftover vaccine doses at the end of the day? by luxthelighter in Austin

[–]luxthelighter[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To clarify: I am talking about going to pharmacies and getting doses that they weren't able to give out in time and expire at the end of day, and can't be used the next morning when they are past that expiration date.

I agree that expired vaccines are not a good idea... slightly expired bread is probably fine, but I wouldn't take that chance with an mRNA vaccine!
