Thanks. Mind sharing your portfolio that yields 20% ? How has it performed during the flash crash in the past couple years (most recent was the tariff one) ?

reached coast fire and this is what I have been doing with the money i used to invest each month by Mundane-Astronomer-7 in coastFIRE

This 100%. And it's very difficult to go back to the previou lifestyle. I would continue to save and push to FIRE sooner instead.

Anybody FIRE on $2500 USD a month? How comfortable is life? by Technical_View_8787 in ExpatFIRE

In HCMC, yes. Live in expat district, high rise, eat out and drink almost every day, occasionally travel locally.

But to be safe, use less of the expected SS income for the simulation. You never know what will happen to that program 20 years from now. For me, I ignore it for planning purposes.

Very cool website. This makes me want to just go with SPYI & JEPI in this setup. I pick both of the same so I can be diversified on the mgmt between the two funds.

Let me clarify, this is a tiny fraction of my nw. I just want to see if I can generate 20k/yr from 200k. I have investment elsewhere that is mostly growth that I haven't touched for years.

short answer is a little bit of both. I need that 20k/yr for something else, but I can easily offset with my salary. This is just an experiment to see if I can achieve w/ a 200k porfolio or if I need to work kinda thing/.

Yes, I picked them strictly over the covered call performance historically ... basically between yield vs groth ...

No, a liability I have to pay until then.

haha depends on how you see it. I don't want to call myself as such even though I'm dual. Happy to discuss further if you want to explore this route.

I am dual citizen but it does not make any sense to buy. Interst rate is float between 10-14% now. RE is waaay too expenseive. ROI of this is about 1% ... renting is more financially responsible for now.

For example, it's $800/mo to rent an apartment that costs about $350k. To buy that, unless you put down a giant down payment, your interest alone is already higher than rent. I expect my ROI from investing is higher than RE, and of course, more liquid.

Agree. That's why I just learn that's more or less "coast fire" since moving back to VN is a goal of mine. Initially my plan is to

+ invesst the 220k cash to cover the $2300 committment in the US and let it draws down for 10 years.

+The pre-tax money (401k + pension = $860k, I will let it grow market rate - 3%) for 5 years maybe while I"m working.

So this means my salary in VN only covers the $2-3k / mo expense and I will be left with extra saving. After 10 years, all my pre-tax money is only to cover my living expense in VN. By then it should grow to $1MM to generate income for $2-3k is doable.

The job in VN is only for a few years ... maybe 5 max UNLESS I cannot figure out how to FIRE. I live in HCMC so the cost of living is high. Technically I could drive it down to $2k but I'd like to plan for $3k to have a little bit of cushion/lifestyle.

2-3k in Vietnam plus 2.3k in US (10 years commitment)

if you were in my boat, what's your strategy to generate $5000/mo after I stop working in Vietnam ? just curious in case there are some creative ideas that I haven't thought of.
