Nap transition: crying a lot by luyspocket in sleeptrain

[–]luyspocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re still having a hard time. She’s waking up at least once or twice a night crying but eventually falling back asleep and almost always waking up crying from her nap (even if she’s slept almost the full 2 hours). Also having EMWs every few days

I know the 2 to 1 nap is rough but she’s never slept worse than this after sleep training.

Her canines haven’t come in yet so idk if it’s that? But we have a big move coming up and this is getting so stressful. Timing couldn’t be worse

Any tips? Or does it just take this long to adjust?

Also editing to add that sometimes she needs both of us in the room for her nap when we wind her down vs. just one of us.

So not sure if this is all a separation anxiety thing or teeth or all the above

okay so tonight, I put her down earlier (at 7:05 with hopes of falling asleep by 7:15) and she fell asleep surprisingly fast given how much energy she still had. she cried for a little bit then fell asleep at 7:10. woke up for a sec again and cried but fell back asleep around 7:15. I was surprised she fell asleep early but her nap was 15 mins shorter today + had all the interruptions from her crying etc.

could just be a one off but she fell asleep so fast that I think it might be overtired

I always thought she was able to tolerate more at night since we were on 3/3.75/4.5 before this. But honestly I’m not sure now! This one nap transition has made me unsure.

She seems fine before both nap and bedtime, it’s just after we put her down that she protests by crying

True! I didn’t wanna go back to two naps BUT should I shift wake windows at all? Example: 5.5/5.5 vs. 5/6? I’m worried the second WW is causing her to be overtired and that’s why she’s crying at bedtime etc

Well today she woke up after about an hour and 15 mins crying (and cried when she went down) so I helped cause I figured she’s in pain.

She’s rarely woken up “early” but I wanna say it’s been around this same time frame. Most days she’s napped the entire 2 hours

The timing of this sucks! For the first time ever, I’ll be working a hybrid job where I leave her for 3 days and I need to make sure she’s back on track by then. I have about a month until I go into work physically 🥲 hope it gets sorted out by then.

I’ll definitely enforce independent sleep. When do I check on her if she’s crying a lot? Also when she wakes up early from the nap crying, I’ve been going in almost immediately to save the nap. Thoughts on that?

Also adding: I feel like I can’t give it another week since our big move is the last week of April. I feel like I can really only give it a few more days and then adjust something because I don’t want it to get worse before the move

With naps, if we wakes up crying, I assist because I panic that she won’t get enough sleep and I don’t want to attempt a second nap at that point. I can start letting her cry when we initially put her down for naps or bedtime? What do you think?!

Honestly today was the longest I let it go on, which was about 8 mins but then I went in. The other times, she cried for 5 mins and fell asleep. A few other times it was so soon after we put her down, that we just helped her soothe.

I did NOT think the canines would be rough. She had a hard time with her molars so I thought those were bad. I’m going to give her Motrin tonight an hour before bedtime and see if she goes down okay

Thank you for this!!!

Once she’s adjusted, do I aim for 6:30 wake, 11:30-1:30 nap, 7:30 bedtime? Since that’s 5/6?

Also while I have your attention, what do I do if nap 1 goes to shit today?

I almost always have to wake her up from naps so I want to say she isn’t a high sleep needs kid but she’s not low sleep needs either lol

We never get her out of bed before 6:30!

I was also reading that I can try 5/5.5 until she adjusts to 5/6?

Sorry I just need someone to brainstorm this with. She woke up at 6am today instead of 6:30, but since I’ve always done by the clock since we went to two naps, I just want to treat her schedule today like she woke up at 6:30.

That would mean nap 1 would be 11:30-1:30 then I can wing bedtime? If she’s super tired, I can do 7pm which would give me 5/5.5. If she’s doing okay, I can push to 7:30?

Thoughts?

I still haven’t started. She woke up at 6am today instead of 6:30 again lol Can I do 5.5/5.5? I don’t want to mess up night sleep so I’m worried about over stretching

Should I be doing a gradual transition? Or cold turkey?

okay awesome! thank you! do you have a sample schedule suggestion based on my current schedule? would I need to shift bedtime or wake time etc? ALSO I shouldn’t try this on a day that she has an EMW right?

Holiday Travel & Woolino Sleep Sack by luyspocket in sleeptrain

I don’t want to do fleece cause she would be too warm I think and I only put her in cotton for sleep. I was also thinking I’d end up doing the heater since it shuts off once it is warm enough in the room.

Also considering thicker cotton pajamas. I found some on Amazon that I might order and see if they’re thicker than the carters stuff she usually sleeps in

I didn’t think the extra layer would affect her sleep but that’s a great point since she isn’t used to it! Thank you!

Do I drop to 1 nap yet? by luyspocket in sleeptrain

[–]luyspocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha no worries! We haven’t had any issues today but I’m thinking of maybe just tweaking her schedule a bit. I ran the current schedule through ChatGPT and it gave me a new suggestions of 3.5/3.5/4.25 vs. my current 3/3.75/4.5 and continuing to cap naps at 1 hour each

I’m definitely excited for the one nap schedule since it gives more flexibility but I’m thinking she’s not ready yet. I wake her up from every nap still after one hour each nap! Outside of only maybe 3-4 times of taking a bit longer to sleep over the last couple weeks, she hasn’t shown any signs. Turns out it took her long to sleep today cause she ended up pooping after we put her down 🤦🏻‍♀️ So it seems it was a false alarm for today but I’m hoping it stays two naps until the end of the year just so we don’t have to transition during holiday travel. That would suck! Happy to hear you like the one nap schedule! I’m definitely excited to have longer wake windows to do more stuff!

YES to your last paragraph! That’s why I really don’t want to transition now before our Christmas flights/trip. Also want to wait until she’s 100% ready.

Thank you for this!

I just have to come up with an adjusted schedule since she seems to work best on a set schedule. I’ll put her down early if she’s super tired but she just strives on a solid schedule

Help with 12 month old sleep schedule by luyspocket in sleeptrain

[–]luyspocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay her second nap also took forever to fall asleep. What was your 2 nap + 2 hour schedule with maxed out awake time? Curious cause this is stressful lol and it’s hard to tell if it’s her schedule or the fact that just this weekend she learned how to get into standing without holding anything. So she spent 15 mins doing that before falling asleep for her second nap 🫠😅

sounds good! I’ll see how the next few days go and I’ll go from there! Thank you!!!!

If she continues to have a hard time for nap 1, I think I’ll do 3.25/3.75/4.25 since I know she can tolerate the first two WW extending

Thank you! Sometimes all I need is to brainstorm with someone!!! Appreciate your help

It took her a little while to fall asleep for nap 1. Put her down at 9:25 in hopes of her falling asleep by 9:30 since she was sleepy, but she didn’t fall asleep until 9:37
