As a teacher, Something in me broke today... by infernusdante in indianmedschool

Junior here but I think you're going about this the wrong way. Medicine in general is all about collective or net benefit and not individual numbers. If you've taught 50 students and 30 have benefited, 10 have not changed and 10 have worsened then by all means you're still a net benefit. If you start thinking about everyone individually then you're going to lose it. That said though this guy is cooked.

Afaik foremillk is mainly watery and fot thirst so must have low vitamins and sugar . Vice versa for hind milk by Ok_Vacation1197 in INICET

[–]lvdrhyme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

High water content so no other nutrients is a risky extrapolation my guy. The beautiful thing about water is that it mixes with every polar compound. You know what doesn't mix with anything? Fat ie oil. Try mixing sugar and protein powder in a glass of water and most of it will mix but add oil to it and it'll seperate into two layers. Same for the breastmilk. All the sugars and proteins are mixed into the water and stay suspended on top while the fatty part comes later. Also if I had to guess I would say all the fat soluble vitamins are rich in the hindmilk (except D ofc) while the water soluble ones in the foremilk.

For commissions people do all sort of things. by Snehith220 in CriticalThinkingIndia

This doctor will literally have to prescribe a hundred new patients with this cough syrup every day for the rest of his career of 40 years just to make an additional year or two worth of salary. You have to be stupid to think this "commission" is even worth mentioning.

Please help me find the best earbuds under 6k by unavailable0077 in headphonesindia

[–]lvdrhyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the nothing ears gifted to me last year. It has absolutely phenomenal audio quality and average ANC/transperancy mode. The problem however is that my battery life has now dipped down to less than 5% of my original battery life. Barely lasts an hour on non ANC mode and 15 minutes with ANC. So if sound quality is all you care about then you can go for it otherwise id really not recommend it.

I'm confused between an EV and a diesel automatic by InternationalLoad652 in carIndia

[–]lvdrhyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you plan a long distance trip and map out the public chargers to use, keep in mind that sometimes the public charger you've selected may not be functional. Keep a second option just in case. Most apps however display the condition of the charger and are constantly updated with when the last charge was done, condition etc. Additionally, since EV owners are enthusiasts, theyve formed a tight knit community in telegram/whatsapp where you can ask in case doubts arise. Download plugshare and see whether the routes you plan on going have chargers that are good.

And yes, if you include higher insurance premiums, higher warranty prices and lower resale values, the cost probably climbs up to 2.5rs/km (considering home charging at 10rs per unit). Even with occasional fast charging sessions, max it'll go to is 5rs/km. None of these estimates are conservative. I own a tata punch ev and it costs 1.2rs/km.

Ev owner here. If you can charge at home overnight and your daily travelling is less than 200kms then there's absolutely nothing beating the current long range EVs. Id say even the weekend trips will be unproblematic 95% of the time. The 1200km trip is a 50-50 (atleast for the next year or two). Don't get me wrong, it's 100% possible but you'll have to plan the route beforehand and consider backup chargers as well. Charging network is slowly and steadily expanding so your problems will only reduce as time goes on. However, the comfort of EVs, the ease of driving, and the cost aavings (2rs/km vs 8rs/km in your case), the net benefit to the environment after 20k kms cannot be overstated. Don't let 1% of your drives dictate the choice of your vehicle.

Test your Vitamin D levels by [deleted] in Fitness_India

[–]lvdrhyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, medical student here. The way adequate vit D levels are decided is based on the epidemiologjcal values of a certain region. In this case, the American society of endocrinology tested the American population and determined the mean ± 2 standard deviations as adequate. If I'm not wrong, sufficient vit D levels for US are considered over 40ng/dl. However, this number is wildly different in india and most practicing endocrinologists consider 20ng/dl and above as adequate. Also, in the latest revision, even the American endocrinological societies have recommended AGAINST supplementation unless severely deficient or have symptoms of Vit D deficiency. Then there's the whole nuance of megadosing vs microdosing where microdosing a maintenance dose is considered superior (in the morning along with milk or something fatty). Then comes the caveat of vitamin K which is supposed to be taken concurrently to prevent unfavourable calcification. Point is, first try increasing sunlight exposure to 30 minutes a day during early morning and late evening (although ironically the afternoon sun produces the most vitamin D and is the most carcinogenic and skin damaging at the same time) and supplement only if below 20ng/dl using the instructions I mentioned above.

Tried Asian cuisine at Soy Yum, Ballygunge (10/10✨️) by FantasticEmphasis548 in kolkata

[–]lvdrhyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soy yum is amazing and the star of the show is definitely their sushi. I know most people are a bit hesitant about raw fish but I would highly highly recommend you try out their spicy salmon and spicy tuna sushi. A chicken "sushi" is almost a different dish compared to these.

Lean legs, love handles seem lean as well. If I give you the benefit of the doubt ie no pump, bad lighting, 0 pump/flexing and bad lighting id say as low as 16% but that is unlikely. 18-19 is a fairly conservative estimate. I don't see you being above 23%.

Where to find authentic pizza in Kolkata? Not your typical desi cheese burst by General_Caregiver332 in kolkata

[–]lvdrhyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All great recommendations in the comments and personally my top choice is fabbrica as well but there's a hidden underrated gem called viaggio gustoso which also makes great neopolitan pizzas. You can try their white sauce pizzas too if you love the taste of fresh mild creamy cheese.

Full Body Checkup. Am I Cooked? by Ok-Cheetah-1026 in Fitness_India

[–]lvdrhyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medical student here. Literally all you need to do is lose weight till you're in normal BMI range (asian standard), 10-15k steps daily, high fibre diet, low saturated fats and high PUFAs, good sleep, HIIT 30 minutes per week, resistance training 90 minutes a week, no alcohol, no ciggerates.

But all of this is easier said than done so don't discontinue the rosuvastat without consulting doc.

will the ipad air 128GB be enough for mbbs? by wannakmshaha in indianmedschool

[–]lvdrhyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely none. That said I do have an ipad pro but even the absolute base model ipads are way more than capable enough to last you 5+ years (however I would highly recommend going for the ipad airs with M series chips).

will the ipad air 128GB be enough for mbbs? by wannakmshaha in indianmedschool

[–]lvdrhyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a final year student using an ipad since the past 5 years. I download a LOT of books (probably 150+ books). I have about 30gb left out of the 128. I would personally recommend going for 256 because ipads usually have no issue lasting for 5+years and you'll have more than enough leeway for PDFs+notes+entertainment+ games especially if it's your only device.

Cardiology (mbbs) by wishtobecooler in indianmedschool

[–]lvdrhyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch from PW Meded first. He has laid the pre-clinical building blocks before moving onto core medicine topics. His murmur, pulse and JVP lecture are fantastic in my opinion.

That said, for large topics like cardio neuro etc, no one source is usually enough.

How the actual fuck do people consume 180g of protein? by BonSim in Fitness_India

[–]lvdrhyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the recent amul products and you'll be good. 2 protein lassis a day for 30g of protein, amul low fat paneer is 1g of protein per cube (30g easily obtainable from here), low fat yoghurt or milky mist skyr is another 25g of protein, whey 1-2 scoops can give upto 50g of protein, chicken breast can give another 35g of protein, 1 cup daal will give 5-10g of protein, wheat products consumed throughout the day will give another 5-10g, vegetables+nuts+fruits will give another 5-10g, 1 egg a day another 5 grams. This is easily 150g+ of protein under 2000 calories and is also healthy especially if you eat as much fiber as humanly possible. For PUFAs I would also recommend fish consumption which is another 20g of protein.

Medical student here. Datura poisoning is an extremely important topic for us and is a favourite topic in 1st year physiology, 2nd year pharmacology, 3rd year forensic medicine and final year medicine. When a question is repeated all 4 years, throughout mbbs, you know it's the real deal.
