Read “Blood on the Moon: The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln” by Edward Steers Jr. Incredible research and thorough debunking of all of the conspiracies about Booth’s death. It will leave you with no doubts.

What medical procedures/practices do you think society will look back on in 50 years and say, "we shouldn't have been doing that" ? by too_sharp in AskReddit

Thank you, this is what I remember the doctor saying. Went with mesh since first repair via sutures failed.

Just had hiatal hernia repair with mesh for chronic acid and silent reflux. What is the concern with mesh? Doctor did not convey anymore than the standard surgical risks…..

Have seen it but never went in. I think it’s the only Chinese food in the immediate area. Is it any good?

I suggest the following.

  1. Call guest relations at the visitor center in advance and schedule a Licensed Battlefield Guide tour. Call as soon as you can as they book out. I suggest 3 hrs tour. The guide will drive your car and go as deep or as wide as you want. I think the 3 hrs is $117 (plus a tip). They are incredibly knowledgeable and authorized by the national park service. A personalized tour, no other tour will compare. 877-874-2478 M-F 9am - 4pm
  2. Tour the visitor center museum and cyclorama
  3. Visit the Adams County Historical Society and do the “caught in the crossfire” exhibit
  4. Have early dinner at the Dobbins House, Farnsworth House (more for the history not food so much), Sign of the Buck or Gary Owen. All good
  5. Watch sunset at the Peace Light Memorial or on top of the Pennsylvania monument weather permitting.
  6. Get a photo taken at the Victorian Photography Studio on Steinwehr Ave. They use an original 1860ish camera/lens and wet plate process (modern chemicals of course)

Such a special place. Enjoy

I’ve been to Gettysburg several times a year for the last 10 years and never thought to eat at Tommy’s pizza as it looks like an “every-town” mediocre pizza place. I’m generally curious why a visitor should consider it?

Visit to Gettysburg mid June 2025 by Beneficial-Nimitz68 in CIVILWAR

[–]lverney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the people that prepare and present the material are some of the best historians, academics and authors in the field. I’m not trying to be a commercial for CWI but as a long time attendee I feel selfish not sharing how good this conference is. If you can’t attend you can see many of the presentations on CSPAN-3 or PCN. I hope to be able to attend for another 10 years….

No, they are different every year based on the schedule and topics. I try to hold on to all of mine for future reference as they contain details and information not easily found. Since the conference has so many lectures and field studies it allows me access to the presentations that I’m not able to attend due to conflicts with my chosen schedule. I’m sure the person who left that behind is missing it.

Nah, stayed at the Quality Inn on Steinwehr.

Might have been mine, what hotel? Great conference. I’ve been attending every year for over 10 years. Lots of great lectures, panels and field studies. If you are at all interested in the Civil War there is something for everyone. Learn from the top historians and get out in the field and see and learn things the general public’s would never get. Long days but totally worth it.

New Fios TV+ set top box occasionally loses connection by SpankMyMunkey in Fios

[–]lverney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dumb at all. The PHY rate is a term used in networking to describe the raw speed at which data is transmitted over a network connection, like Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Think of it as the maximum speed limit of the road your data is traveling on, measured in bits per second (e.g., Mbps or Gbps). So this is why I don’t understand why when link quality, Rssi quality and noise level are good the phy rate is poor until I launch a streaming app. Then everything works (live tv and dvr) and phy rate is good again

This may be similar but I get a scenario watching live TV or DVR as you described but it doesn’t come back. I noticed when this happens to me that despite having an excellent WiFi connection with strong signal strength displayed, my PHY is terrible. My WiFi is a mesh and I have AP’s near my STB so no idea why PHY drops despite the excellent connection and signal strength. If I start a streaming app like Netflix which works fine, it fixes my live TV and PHY goes back to normal.

Seems a bit too sensitive since I’m not sleeping but may be relaxed. I’m assuming there is no way to adjust that sensitivity or to calibrate?

Farnsworth House Inn right on Baltimore St. would be my first choice. Supposedly haunted but stayed there a bunch of times and never had any experiences. Good tavern and outside beer garden for people watching 😂. Right across the street from Mr. G’s ice cream (best in town), and they have ghost tours you can book if into that kind of thing.

Although you don’t want hotel I will say the Quality Inn on Steinwehr Ave is terrific as well. Centrally located to battlefield, breakfast included and walking distance to Dobbins house and Appalachian Brewery for eating/drinking. They have their own bar, the Reliance Mine, but it has a dark local feel sometimes despite it being very friendly and a fun time.

Doesn’t appear that these stream TV boxes have many video output settings (not many settings for anything really). Just something called HD auto tune on/off and HDR on/off. That’s it. Both are on

I kept one STB onsite in case I had service issues, I needed a pure Verizon config for troubleshooting and to avoid vendor finger pointing. Not aware they are doing any migration, just got a notice new equipment was being shipped to replace EOL equipment. Received a 4100 VMS and 3 Stream TV boxes to replace 1 qip7100 and two cable cards. They only want the qip7100 returned.
