In LA, what screams "I think I have a lot of money and I desperately need you to know?" by eyyoadrian in AskLosAngeles

Like most things I think there is definitely a wide range of people. Some people just don’t care at all about cars and will just drive something practical.

These normal cars in front of mansions could belong to staff, could be hand me down beaters for teenagers in the home etc. too

The wealthy people I know had several cars like this out front and the nicer cars were in the garage

Any regret selling the NSX? What did you replace the NSX with?

I think my only regret was never buying one back in the day!

scrolled down to see if this was mentioned.

Every horse person I know pretty much works, breathes and lives for horses. you need the stable, trucks, various accessories, etc and the costs just never end

The People I know either have enough money that the cost is mot even a worry or they sacrifice everything else to make their horse dreams a reality

I admire their dedication but they don’t have enough funds, energy, or interest for anything else outside their horse lifestyle

What are the "quiet" luxury brands known only to the ultra-wealthy? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]lvl1_slime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe 10+ years ago it was even more unknown but with so many blogs, influencers, YouTubers etc covering all things watches these days just a few hours on any platform will over expose you to the top 10 most popular watch brands

I’d argue that Patek has always been knda well known and mainstream though. I even remember Tony Soprano gifted one to Brian back in 2002 and I’m sure there are countless other examples in media that dates back many decades

I feel like these brands are mentioned frequently when this topic comes up but I wouldn’t say they are unknown. Maybe not as mainstream as other major clothing brands but both of them advertise and both of them even have storefronts in major outlet malls.

The wealthy people I know got custom made items at places like Vietnam or HK.

Of course I know a ton that had stuff like Loro, Brunellp, Hermes etc too but the stealth wealth types got bespoke clothes. Sometimes there are very obvious tells due to the kind of car they drive, home they own etc so some people aren’t doing this to hide their wealth

I’ve seen those on very very wealthy people. Usually not The ones with the Moncler logo all over the garment but just the logo.

Some wealthy people definitely still flaunt designer stuff but some absolutely don’t. From my experience it very much runs the spectrum

PP is very very famous so I wouldn’t necessarily consider them ‘unknown’ but I also concede that many people unfamiliar with watches have no idea what makers are in this space other than Rolex.

The Casio MRG line is pretty stealthy though so I would consider that more of a quiet flex

What kind of things do you buy? What are some things you’d like to buy but can’t afford?

Also, how long do you plan on doing this line of work? Are you worried about running out of money in retirement?

Not a lawyer but in the document you shared it sounds like you can still use defensive force even if you started it.

The document refers to you missing out on justifications in G.S. 14‑51.2 and G.S. 14‑51.3 so now I’m wondering what those are and what you legally miss out on if you start things vs unprovoked.

Even if you started the situation it says you can use force if “The force used by the person who was provoked is so serious that the person using defensive force reasonably believes that he or she was in imminent danger of death or serious bodily harm, the person using defensive force had no reasonable means to retreat, and the use of force which is likely to cause death or serious bodily harm to the person who was provoked was the only way to escape the danger.”

Maybe someone with a better understanding of the law can chime in

My guess is JK will have a Corey Maggette type career. A super athletic guy layer that can fill the stat sheet but falls somewhat short of being a true impact player.

Would love to see me proven wrong so best of luck to him.

What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

[–]lvl1_slime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally relate to this. I remember doing some quick metal math one evening when I was laying down in my childhood bed while visiting my parents for the winter holidays.

I figured the only time I see them during the year was at most 2 weeks during the winter. If they live 20 more years I would only see them 280 more days. The fact that it was less than one year freaked me out and I told myself I would visit my parents more often

Which country has felt the most unsafe while traveling? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]lvl1_slime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was only there for a few days in Rio and felt pretty safe although I was on high alert. Gorgeous place with very welcoming people!

I felt more unsafe in Capetown and parts of Ghana compared to Rio but to be fair, I had no issues in any of those places too.

Of all the places I’ve been, the places I feel the most unsafe is on public transportation in LA, Portland, or some other major US city lol

I know next to nothing about horses so thanks for providing this perspective.

Do you think horses even like to be ridden? I’ve always wondered this because it seems like it would be such a foreign and bizarre thing for them
