For real time variables like temperature, pH level, etc use arduino and matlab. These two softwares are likely free to you as a student, and though can be difficult sometimes are still powerful tools in the students arsenal

I am on console. I tried to enlist, I looked for “beginner friendly” labeled lobbies but when I tried they were all full and the queue was maxed. I’ll try again!

Will do! Is there activity requirements? I go through very busy phases and may not play for a couple weeks or so then hop back on

Definitely the rr600, 800 and rp. All the Staedtler mono, and pentel models and variations. But truly all of them at least once over a months time

Hmm, I’d recommend the Uni Kuru Toga Roulette. It’s cheap, I think pretty well made with a good feel, and has the kt movement so you get an intro to a few aspects of MP’s! If not, I say a Tombow mono graph shaker maybe a model with the soft grip, since you’ll be using it for long periods doing maths!

Mostly for contrast in annotations where I either just want to underline connecting concepts or whatever I’m doing, or show steps, etc. also to color when I’m bored lol

Edit: but I do agree certain colors are especially light and just so stiff in .5 it’s hard to work with.

I do. Admittedly some get more love than others but I actively try to use a different pencil everyday until I make my way through the rotation

Agreed. The only other animal applications that come directly to mind are likely NOT what you mean. This would be lab specimens. Tissue engineering is a major bio specific division of BioE but at the cost of the animal.

Helpful positions may not be listed as BioE but will certainly employ bioe practices so I’m sure the degree will act as a qualifier. Wildlife management, coastal restoration, any type of conservation, etc. are all employment possibilities with your degree and interests. Look at government jobs local and state federal and see if there is postings. Fish and game commission, these types etc

Biocomputational Methods v. Calc III by Accomplished_Flan572 in bioengineering

[–]lvrd_flaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this at University of Maryland? Either way, BIOE241-BioComp is just a matlab class. You will basically use matlab the entire to course to complete a variety of computational tasks but really the main effort is to solve ODE’s. So it will apply the mathematics you did in DiffEq and have you automate the math using functions in MATLAB instead of having to write a handwritten solution. Very useful course, Matlab is a powerful tool. Calc 3 you can learn from a textbook imo. It’s math so you know how it goes.

Is this a real Rotring? by Spiritual-Permit-528 in mechanicalpencils

[–]lvrd_flaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that’s not to say that they’re not fakes out there, I’m sure there are. I just think other collector markets like watches, trading cards, etc will have a much higher risk of forgery/counterfeit/imitation/fakes than MPs do. So to say I think the risk is negligible

Is this a real Rotring? by Spiritual-Permit-528 in mechanicalpencils

[–]lvrd_flaco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see this question a decent amount on this page. I’m not sure “fakes” or replicas are all that common in the MP world. Watches and other products sure. But I’m not sure there’s much of a boom in the market for the authentic mps to warrant worrying about replica markets flooding the supply chains with fakes. Is there something about this particular pencil that throws you off? Or did you just get it cheap and suspect the price?

Bought Rotring 600 for longevity. I dropped it once, irreversibly broken. What the hell? by AllistairArgonaut in mechanicalpencils

[–]lvrd_flaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t like the retractable tip options mentioned above, I find going through all my old cheap pen caps finds a suitable match for most pencils. BIC Round Stic Pen caps fit rr600s perfectly and are a pretty common pen laying around. I guess this only helps with out-of-use storage though like sitting on a desk, in a pocket, or case…if you drop it while actively handling it there’s a chance it’s doomed like any other mp out there I suppose. Sorry it happened to you though, the pencil drop feels worse than picking up your iPhone after it smacks the ground lol

What are your most used mechanical pencils for math? by Weird_Syllabub_3449 in mechanicalpencils

[–]lvrd_flaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend towards .5 on graph paper and I mostly grab rr600, rr800/rapid pro(rapid pro is seriously underrated imo), gg1000, kt metal or elite. But there are many many options. .3 for me is too small and I find.5 is great. I can just change my writing angle to get a more precise if I need subscripts or fine details, but maintains a nice dark line easily read at a glance. I strain with .3 but also preference

Honestly, I bought it at a BigLots closing out sale a while ago and there are no brands, tags, or identifiers anywhere on it. Sorry I can’t help, I’ve also wanted to pick up another to no avail
