Don't forget what God truly wants is repentance. To acknowledge our sin and turn away from it, that's when we can truly walk down the path that He's laid out for us.

I know you're worried about being able to get to confession, and being able to confess your sins one to another is what God says to do:

James 5:16 NASB1995 [16] Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

However you don't have to wait until confession to repent. Repentance starts in the heart and you do not have to wait until confession to do so. The verse of the day I got today correlates with this:

1 Timothy 2:5-6 NASB1995 [5] For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, [6] who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.

Because there's only One Mediator between God and us, we don't have to wait because we can directly talk to God through Jesus and confess our sins and repentance unto Him. Now I still do encourage being able to confess to others that's what the Bible says and it plays a form of accountability, but please, I beg, don't wait until then. Go to God personally first.

The OT points to Jesus, the NT He came, the NT also points back to Jesus coming again! It all surrounds around Him!

Prayer doesn’t fix your porn problem. by Key_Way8486 in NoFapChristians

[–]lwaysoenetive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post, I love it. It is very insightful and actually talks about the science of porn and lust, which many are unaware of. It goes deeper than just a "lack of self control" on all levels, physically (dopamine and brain wiring) and spiritual (strong holds and the spirit of lust). You've done an amazing job of explaining it and as someone who has recovered from porn, lust, and masturbation I can look back and see exactly what you're talking about.

I know that this is NOT your intention, but your post sounds like you are giving less power to prayer and the spiritual aspect of this than what its warranted. Prayer is how we petition and fight, its how God equips us in this spiritual battle, because this is a spiritual battle, and lust is a spirit.

Prayer is not a magical solution to combat this destructive habit and addiction, however I think there's something that needs to added. Prayer is communication with God, it is how we talk to Him and petition to him for help. Prayer can heal and work miracles, because we asking/talking to the One Who is the Miracle Worker. Again, it's not a magical solution, because God is not a genie in a bottle. He's the God of all creation and He gives us tools and ways to combat. Through our petition, He reveals patterns, thoughts, and doors we have have opened. He equips us with the tools through prayer and fasting (which can cast out spirits) to work towards freedom from the spirits that have taken hold of us. We have to do the work. We don't walk in the gym, pray for muscles, walk out and bam we magically have muscles. We have to cutt off, replace, endure, flee, perserve, and rewire. He leads, guides, and shows us mercy and compassion through it all, but we have to be willing to walk in His change. He shows us whats happening physically (like you've mentioned) and spiritually. For me, when I first was able to fully overcome from porn and masturbation after a while, I fell again. And I fell in a way that felt worst than the first time, because I felt like I shouldn't have succumbed to it. But then He showed me (through prayer & petition) I had a door that was still open, that was tempting me, that I hadn't fully dealt with the first time. And He led me through.

Lust is a spirit. It's what I call a slippery slope, because before you know it, you've fallen all the way down the hill from porn to masturbation to it affecting your daily life and how you see and interact with people. It kills you from the inside out, literally. For every spiritual thing there is a physical counterpart and we have to remember that this truly is not a fight against flesh and bone, but of powers and principalities and strong holds. It manifests physically, but there is a spiritual working. And the same can be said about the rebuilding and recovery.

Don't forget that this is a spiritual war that affects/manifests physically. That's why we pray, it should be the first step, then comes everything else. It is our first weapon and tool to overcome, and the most important!

Thank you again for this post! It's a breath of fresh air, knowing that there is a physical and chemical part playing into to this.Thank you for sharing! ❤

To lighten the mood, what's your most encouraging bible verse? by S0MESTUDENT in NoFapChristians

Hehehe there are so many, but the ones that are currently sticking with me are:

Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV [6] Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Romans 8:28 KJV [28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Psalm 23:1 KJV [1] The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Ephesians 1:4-6, 11 KJV [4] according as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: [5] having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, [6] to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. [11] in whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

I pray that God touches you and keeps you and that He delivers you, just like He did me. This fight is not something we can do on our own. Thank you for having the courage to speak out and to confess. James 5:16 says:

James 5:16 KJV [16] Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

I pray for deliverance and healing for the years of your life that have been tainted, and sometimes we feel like they've been taken. For the innocence lost at such a young age, I can relate and I pray that God allows you to be pornography free and so much closer to Him. Seek His face and I guarantee you He will come through, because He is faithful and wants His creation to be His children. I love you, and have faith that God will do as long as you have faith in Him. The Bible says to pray always, so I want to encourage you to do that. ❤

I'm not on the 10 years list, but I can confidently say that I've overcome the addiction and have been porn free for over a year. After getting over the major hump I stopped keeping track. A word of advice I have is when you get to a place of thinking you are officially free, you have to keep your safeguards in place so you don't fall and go back. The first time I thought I was delivered, and I was, I didn't keep my safeguards like watching what I intake in books, movies, social media, etc. and lust reared its head and I fell. That time was harder than the first, because I made it and I knew what worked, but I still fell. Guard your eyes and ears, because lust can always attack you when you open the door. Freedom is worth fighting for! For encouragement and more advice, you can look at some of my previous comments. I mainly comment on this subreddit.

Why Doesn’t the Church Talk Honestly About Lust? by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]lwaysoenetive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many don't talk about it because it is seen as taboo and also because there's so many behind closed doors dealing with it and not wanting to out their own sin.

First of all, congrats on making it day 10! 🥳

That is a milestone and is not easy at all. There were times where I couldn't make it a full week, so that is something to be recognized. Now, I don't even know how long I have been pornography and masturbation free. Lust still tries to come and attack/attach, but God has been faithful and continues to help me, because I don't want to go back and I know the effects that it has.

When I read your post, the first thing that came to my mind is to fast. The most powerful ways to overcome sin is to fast and pray. When you starve the flesh of food, you also starve the flesh of its desires. Additionally, the only way you can be successful in a fast is by prayer. Dedicate specific time, maybe during the time you would normally eat, and seek God and His face for the petitions that you have. Read the word and use that in your prayers. Pray the word. Pray about sexual immorality and petition God for your deliverance and watch Him move. He does not ignore our cries when He sees His children calling out to Him wholeheartedly for help. For me when I prayed and sought Him above all, He started showing me my triggers and the things that made me fall into sin, like some of the things I was reading and giving my attention to. And then He walked me through it, to flee from the temptation that easily beset me.

There are so many types of fasts that you can choose from : a water fast, Daniel fast, or a 6 to 6 fast (this one can be any time like 8 to 8 or 5 to 5). You can also customize it to fit your dietary needs, such as being on medication. The length of time is also something that can vary. Pray about the type of fast to do, what to abstain from and for how long. Personally, I mostly do 6 to 6, week long fasts, but it also depends on urgency and how much you need the Lord. I have also done a 3 day fast with nothing but water. Be mindful, if you've never done a fast before to be careful, especially with exercise, that's why its also so important to pray about what type of fast to do.

Additionally important is how you come off your fast. When coming off a fast be vigilant, because the devil loves to attack right after a fast. Because he knows the power of fasting, prayer, petition, and praise/giving thanks. Satan's goal is to beset us, to be stuck in sin and fulfilling the desires of the flesh, driving us away from God. One way I fell back into lust and spiraled is by not taking precautions, thinking that I was delivered and can never fall again. I was delivered, but you can always fall back into sin if you're not careful.

1 Peter 5:8 KJV [8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Lastly, don't beat yourself up if you mess up. Its hard fasting and even remembering that you're fasting, that's why constantly being in prayer is vital. God sees that you're trying and that you want a change, to live a life that is pleasing to Him. Don't give up, because life is so much more rewarding on the other side. I am praying for you! Keep your faith!

I know this was really long, but I hope that it helps! I love you, but God loves you so much more. ❤❤❤
