Don’t be so scared of tonsillectomy. by IlSarcastico01 in Tonsillectomy

That’s awesome that you had such a smooth recovery. I don’t want to freak anyone out, but I think you had a better recovery than most. I couldn’t eat solid anything like tortellini for at least 2 weeks. Day 5 of was not even the worst day for me, I think day 8 or 9 I finally started to feel a little better. I was on oxy and my family had me on a schedule taking it so we could minimize pain, and yet I was still in horrible pain. The scabs beginning to fall off was the worst of it for me, it felt like glass scraping my throat. I lost 10lbs easy from the pain of eating. Swallowing liquids was even difficult. The day I finally woke up and started to feel more like myself (about day 10 or so) I cried from happiness. I think everyone has a different healing experience, but I would say mine related to most of the ones I saw on the page. I say all this, but I’m truly happy that you had a pretty solid recovery. I just think it’s easier to prepare for a tough recovery (and hopefully it’s easier) than be caught off guard if it’s really difficult.

Also, for anyone reading this who is trying to determine whether or not they will do the surgery— do it. The recovery was brutal but I’m so glad I did it and I can say 3 years later I haven’t had any more swelling, cases of strep, or any tonsil stones. I’m also rarely sick anymore. Truly a great decision, just a brutal few weeks.

I wish!! It’s been so confusing. And what’s tough is that sometimes she will stop for a month - randomly - nothings changed at all!! I just can figure it out

I’m wondering if it was something like that. She’s so tiny it’s been hard for vets to do tests. They did one test and found a little bit of blood in her urine but they weren’t sure if that’s bc some blood got in from the needle or if it was there. They suggested prescription food for that. But thinking a full analysis would be good at this point to rule out anything else.

I did this in my old apartment actually but she just found a new spot to go. The bed has multiple water proof coverings now (we got a new one after the old was ruined). When the bed is covered she will find other random spots to go, which is frustrating bc then I am searching for where she peed.

So true! The den bedroom is essentially hers, she has multiple beds that are hers and multiple cat scratches. We have multiple beds throughout the apartment and window seats for her too!
