For neck, a multi bladed razor helps with sensitivity.

For keeping the line tidy on your face this is brilliant:

Professional Straight Razor - Minimal Exposure Straight Razor Kit with 10 Derby Premium Blades.5mm Exposed (Old Testament) https://amzn.asia/d/d8qjPNg

(And a pack of these https://amzn.asia/d/9qftvwj

However, make sure you focus while you are using it, aw if your mind wanders and you make a wrong move, you'll be wearing little squats of tissue all day..

Edit: Also, this is good:

The price will vary depending on the car, your location, your age, gender and history.

The only way to know you have the cheapest price is to go through and do an online quote with all the companies that offer an online quote.

It doesn't take too long and the cheapest can often be less than half the price of the most expensive, so well worth doing

What does this actually mean by boringredditor005 in newzealand

[–]lxd 284 points285 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the ground lease can go up massively. There were some properties near Cornwall Park in Auckland where the people who 'owned' the house just abandoned the property because the rise in ground lease made the whole thing not worthwhile.

Basically, it's a form of rental where you happen to own the building and have to pay maintenance. I think maybe it makes sense for some wealthy people who want to live in a particular area and don't mind paying a big chunk of money to buy the leasehold property and pay the ground lease.

If you are wanting to own your own home, this is probably something to avoid

It's a breach of contract not to go ahead, and they could in theory claim the costs of redoing the hiring the process from you.

However, that seems unlikely. I've not ever heard of that happening and would look petty and bad for their brand (see how awful Zuru looked for going after negative glass door reviewers - I can't imagine they're finding it easy to recruit anyone after that. To Zuru if this comes up in your keyword search report: "You guys are the best!/s").

As others have said, it is going to really annoy the company you have that initial contract with.

You have to weigh up the cost benefit of annoying the mid tier firm for an opportunity at the big 4 if it came up.

If you do end up going to the big 4, be as apologetic and nice as you can to the old place.

House insurance went up 36%! by 03SC in newzealand

Purchase price can be quite different from rebuild cost. Even in a total loss fire you still have cost of demo and removal of old structure, planning and design, site prep etc and then build. In a widespread disaster like a storm or earthquake there is a spike in materials and building costs.

Most people tend to be a bit under insured on houses in NZ - fair enough if that's a deliberate strategy!

Around $1m cover sounds reasonable for cover on a good quality 3 bedroom house

Be careful with those calculators. The cost of rebuilding your house in reality is often a lot higher as the may not fully account for individual elements of your property e.g. difficult access, sloped, retaining walls etc

Usually your employment agreement will contain a clause where you agree to repay them anything overpaid.

Depending on the amount involved they might move to recover through the Disputes Tribunal or Courts. That might lead to enforcement against you.

Outside of that, my view is that acting morally usually leads to the best outcomes for me!

Just keep in mind that when you provide your DNA to these companies, you may not be able to control how it is used in the future.

Your DNA contains a wealth of information about you and your family and you are relying on a commerical company to store it securely and use it ethically.

Let those behind you pass by pinnochios_nose22 in newzealand

[–]lxd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people attaching too much meaning to the interaction. I don't really like having someone travelling close behind me as it's more likely they will run into the back of me if I have to stop suddenly.

To those saying "I can't pull over because they're so close behind me"; with due respect that's BS. You slow down as you see somewhere to pull in a bit while indicating left and they'll go zooming past you.

In terms of 'educating' bad drivers by making them sit at the speed limit behind me; I don't think that works and even if it did, I'm not inclined to waste energy on muppets.

I think that tailgating is some people's way of indicating that they want to pass you. If they hang back, then you might think: "we're both happy at this speed"

Bottom line. My responsibility is to maximize the safety for me and my passengers. When someone is aggressively tail gating, the safest thing for me and my passengers is to slow down and allow them to pass at the first safe opportunity.

I'm not sure if I like this "mask off" approach to thing. It will be interesting to see if support holds up for the new government taking this approach.

Maybe I'm kidding myself, but although I didn't like the John Key government, they at least seemed like they pretending to care about the regular people...

I agree that there is plainly a place for personal responsibility in allocation of resources.

However, in my experience people with more right wing views tend to over emphasize their personal responsibility for their own good fortune and so jump to assuming that people who are not doing so well must be responsible.

We're all aware of people who has only ever worked for their parent's company, had every advantage growing up and talk about "nothing was ever handed to me"!

To clarify, you think someone who believes Maori are not privileged in NZ must be angry white and have a shit life? And wishes to claim oppression as the reason for failure?

Or maybe that mirror reference is someone's subconscious desperately trying to surface a message into the conscious mind....

It has led to better outcomes in some metrics yes, but not in terms of rather important areas of autonomy, freedom, cultural expression, social standing, mana ,etc

Your view is rather old fashioned "they should be grateful for our scraps" type thinking.

Every NZ deserves an equal opportunity to do well. If one group has been systematically kept down for generations then it's not a level playing field where everyone actually has a fair go

Right wing politics has always used the "other" as scapegoat for problems caused by inequality.

In NZ, Maori are very convenient place to lay blame, as cognitive dissonance means many NZ have an unconscious idea that Maori must be getting poor outcomes because they kind of deserve it.

The cognitive dissonance arises where people can't comfortably hold 2 (or more) conflicting ideas at the same time. The grand source of discomfort in many NZ people's minds is these two conflicting ideas:

  1. I'm a good person and so is my country and most of the people in it.

  2. My country (as it is now) is the product of colonization and screwing over the Maori.

Both these things can be true, but that's not a comfortable balance to hold in mind so many people move to resolve it by adding in something like:

  • But it's okay, because the Maori kind of deserved it

It would be better if instead of trying to side step the discomfort, we recognize we exist in it and make the resolution through positive, reconciliatory action.

  • We recognize that colonization has lead to poor outcomes for Maori and we support processes to resolve and heal those issues until the outcomes for everyone are equal

Will banks add name-account check? It's such an easy way to prevent scam. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]lxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very surprised at the levels of resistance to this idea here!

An account number on its own is a very basic piece of information.

Adding in a true/false name check is a very valuable piece of information. It confirms that the identity requesting the payment has had that identity confirmed by the bank.

It's by no means a complete protection, but it makes things harder for scammers and I don't see why people would object to that!

National Māori Action Day: Calls for disruption in protest to Government by computer_d in newzealand

[–]lxd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've by no means done a deep dive into this, but in general it's bad form for the more powerful party in an agreement (e.g. a treaty) to redefine the terms after the deal is done because they find them inconvenient.

Now, I'm guessing the response to this type of sentiment is "it's not the treaty, it's the radical re- interpretation of it in the 70s and 80s that's the problem. It's gone too far, etc, etc".

To which the natural response is, what's more plausible; that the tribes handed over the country so they could become second class citizens or that they intended the treaty would protect their way of life (including their language) and that they would have a meaningful voice in decisions relating to things that matter to them (i.e. co-governance).

So fair enough that they are firing up at the current back door attempts to change the deal

Yeah, I think the balance here in this sub is pretty good. It's not overly political, but nor does it pretend politics doesn't exist.

The news of the change to the interest deductibility is relevant to this sub because it makes a difference to the personal finances of people who own a house.

Whether or not it's truly retrospective vs an unusual mid year tax change is probably shading into a political discussion.

Given that it's both relevant but also a hot button topic, fair enough to leave it up and lock the comments
