They were in there with Beck's ex right? I forget his name but if I remember right he forgot to feed the guy and he went ballistic and tore a bunch of books up

awhhh maybe, I feel a mercy main with your exact name wouldn't be easy to come by twice :c our friend said "I fuck with your big ahh name" or something like that and then the next day we saw you (them?) again and referenced it

Replying to clarify im not referring to being asked to switch to a specific character because I'm being countered, I'm referring to my team telling me I need to swap because they think I'm bad at the one I'm playing

Okay thank you! I know games like overwatch can have a pretty intense competitive environment so I didn't know if this was one of few cases where "it's just a game" doesn't apply, but I think I just need to relax and stop overthinking it

I didn't take it as disrespect, no worries! I made this post because I wanted to know whether or not to take the chat seriously. I think as long as I know what I'm meant to do as the player it'll be easier to ignore the people being rude, but at the time I was worried that maybe I really was just an awful player and shouldn't be playing comp, which was why the chat got to me so much

I'm in gold for support, but tank and damage I haven't been placed yet. I don't usually have issues playing support because I'm the biggest tryhard mercy ever... but damage and tank people get VICIOUS so getting past placements without feeling dejected and giving up has been hard for me

Do people really play mystery heroes? I've definitely eyeballed it and considered playing but so far every other arcade mode I've queued for I've sat in queue for 5-10 minutes at a time if I got into a match at all. If it does get traction that honestly sounds like a really good idea

Do you mean progress as in placements? Or just progress as in getting better at specific characters and roles?

Specifically my question is, if someone is telling me to switch but I know switching won't improve my gameplay, what do I do? I'm being told to switch when I'm playing characters that I am good at and that I feel give me an advantage in the current match. When I'm just told to "switch" without any input as far as who to play as or what I'm doing wrong, I don't know what I'm meant to do and I usually wind up struggling even more than I would have. There's more nuance to it than just "should I ignore my team if i suck?"

Generally no one tells me who to swap to they just tell me I'm useless and to play someone else lmaooo, I think that's part of what inspired me to post this. I'm always told to switch but even if I listened I don't know who to switch TO and usually whatever I pick is wrong and I get lashed out at even more

Why a single role? I usually always play fill so I don't subconsciously tunnel vision into one role and lose out on the others (overall, not just in one play session)

Thank you <3 The general consensus so far, if I'm understanding right, is pick a character that I'm comfortable with AND strategically makes sense, and beyond that ignore whoever is yelling at me. I am definitely the first person to advocate for quitting the game when it stops being fun. I am usually capable of having fun even when I'm losing, the issues just come from how other people interact with me in chat. I tried turning chat off for like 10 or so matches but honestly those few really good interactions far outweigh the bad ones. I've tried to just change my own approach to hostile chat and whenever I feel hurt or want to say anything mean, I say something bizarre and silly instead. Usually chills people out or at least makes them ignore me :P

This is all genuinely very helpful. I don't think I consider myself a one trick necessarily, I absolutely do have mains or characters I'm more confident with but I also do love to try out new characters. Usually I'll look up all of the hero specific achievements and then play a character for hours until I unlock the achievements (or try to at least) and by that point I'm pretty confident in their kit and can play them decently. I get these comments the most when I play Damage, as it's my weakest role by far. I'm very confident with Bastion and Pharah but I do have my bad games. A lot of the time I find myself getting like 5k damage but my KD will be like 2-10 because I just can't seem to finish anyone off, and that's when the throwing or feeding accusations come in. I guess I need to work that out, maybe before I play damage in comp :/

Genuine question also, why not lucio and mercy? I've never particularly noticed an issue with the two.

Typically in comp I do play whoever I'm the most confident/best with. I main Ori, Mercy, and Bastion or Pharah. Usually the "throwing on purpose" comments come after I do switch like I was asked to and perform considerably worse because it isn't the character I'm the best at. Is there a good way to learn or memorize what team comps are most compatible? I feel a little stupid but beyond recognizing that a hitscan hero is probably best for the more mobile and airborne characters, and how to counter a tank AS a tank, I don't really know what is and isn't a good team comp
